HELP I WAS EXPECTING HIS ALBUM VERSION
Why is this nightmare fuel
😉👍
After seeing Steely Dan in concert at the U. of Toledo in April 1974, I discovered a promotional copy of their 1972 debut single, "Dallas" b/w "Sail the Waterway," in the listening library at Bowling Green State U. in the fall of 1974. I loved drummer Jim Hodder's easy-going lead vocal and "Skunk" Baxter's elegant pedal steel guitar, so when I learned that Poco covered "Dallas" on their 1975 album, "Head Over Heels," I bought it for that song alone. It was decades later before I learned that Steely Dan pulled their single off the market for fear that it would label them a country-rock band. By 1975, ABC/Dunhill Records realized that "Dallas" would fit newly-signed Poco like a glove. How right they were!
Wonder why this is not on Spotify?
Do you have a WAV or FLAC for this and Sail the Waterway?
What's on the flip side?
Me when i use my Nintendo Labo to record myself drinking milk (im actually trying to catch the skinwalker pretending to be me while doing streams on my twitch channel where he calls himself the sus guy.)
Perfect anime loop choice
Love it maine

Too tough 😤
Favorite Sounds Of Life Record ❤️❤️❤️(✯ᴗ✯)❤️❤️
What a PSYCHO
Reminds me of Todd Rundgren
Needed this
💯 best slowed and reverbed ever imo
"STEELLY DAN". Early days for sure! Best version I've heard. Thanks.
Labo Hell
Labo
This song made me yearn to be on miami beach, with the sun setting making amazing silhouettes on the palm trees as the yachts in the harbour swayed slowly in the waves - this version took that to a whole new level.
what year is this.?
'72.
this scratches my brain
His voice in the beginning has me cracking up, lmao.
I was hitting a J and read as the video started. Nearly choked to death ong this shit too funny you're right
This sounds similar to Brandy by Looking Glass which was released a month earlier, both also having nautical lyrics.
Fabulous hidden gem ! RIP Jim Hodder : great vocalist and drummer . Too bad he was not given his chance ...
Thank you!!! Great discovery!
As someone who's heard practically their entire catalog that is publically available, this one still holds a special place in my heart.
I love my Nintendo Labo, I bring it everywhere especially when I get milk from the fridge!
Can’t believe this turned 50 this past Thursday
Everything's getting real old.
Apparently the singer on this track, Jim Hodder, drowned when he was middle aged. Truly a sad way to go 😔
Saw an interview with Skunk today mentioning this song. What a fabulous effort. Jim Hodder was a great vocalist when he was given the chance and great pedal steel from Mr Baxter.
A seemingly rare sonic indulgence of sentimentality The Dan. A true gem.
Sounds awesome 😎
I've always loved this gem. And The Bear.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!😎
A little too lopsided toward a bass-heavy EQ curve on this one. Needs balancing. But the clarity is superior to the others.
Beginning sounds like a new terminator theme
Thanks💕
Very good tune, ever heard before! And the singer sounds kinda like Cat stevens
It really does. It was the then drummer, Jim Hodder on vocals. He also sang Midnight Cruiser on Can't Buy a Thrill. And unfortunately he drowned at the age of 42.
me when im giving a house tour with my nintendo labo
When the absolute PSYCHO STREAMER gives a tour of his MANIAC MANSION in 144p
Glad someone else found it as funny as me and had to find the song
Hoder did a great Job singing this song very catchy!!!
we've all been there
@Gregg Goins is totally right, at this speed Macca sounds like Michael McDonald! It's smooth! The horns get a little too raspy at this speed but the verses sound ice cold.
oh man paul sound sso different here....... he like rick atsley but in deeper sound
Thanks for sharing! When you have a second, I uploaded a cover of Meredith Brooks. As a fellow music fan, I'd love if you'd take a listen. It's on my page. Hope you enjoy. Don't go too hard on me :)
Until today I always thought of this song as a POCO song, and after doing some research which brought me here to give this a listen. While I am a HUGE SD fan--and I love I.G.Y.--I have to say that to me this is still a POCO song. More Southern California Country Rock (think Eagles before there was an Eagles) than SD. Good that SD did record it, but I think I will give it a miss and not replace the POCO version on my playlist.
Yeah, but Fagan and Becker wrote it. I actually heard it first from Steely Dan.
My first familiarity with it was also via Poco, but I've seen the writing credit for years and wondered, well, when did Fagen and Becker DO this? And the answer: a single release pre-"Can't Buy a Thrill". It isn't very Dan-ish, but I really like it. AND Poco's version, as well.
