In this video I am going to show you how to build your own homebuilt stratus ads-b receiver. The whole project costs around $160 at the time of this video. I will show you what parts to buy and how to put everything together. Enjoy! My First Solo Flight | Cessna Skycatcher 162
มุมมอง 4888 ปีที่แล้ว
Here I go on my first solo flight in a Cessna 162 Skycatcher! I took off out of Renton Airport in WA. Thank you to Rainier Flight Service for letting me do this!
Cool. demo would have been cool too
how did you take the case off the frequency boards?
Can you ad the link for the battery pack and cable please
I absolutely despise people who create a helpful video but then add music to it. It is very distracting, crappy job...
Just finished mine today. Thanks!
cool !!!
Great video! You got me as a subscriber..... I love how simple you kept it with no fluff. Any chance you have another source for the AHRS? I'm looking forward to seeing your pi software video as well.
Hey Joe! Where you at with your flying now?
My build stopped working after a few years recently. No longer receives ADSB towers. GPS still works though. Either or both of the antennas went dead is my guess. I have no idea how to go about troubleshooting. Oh well. A lot of nice parts someone could probably use. Thinking I'll move on to a Stratus or Ping and toss this one in the dead bin.
Absolutely fantastic instructional video.
Nicely done. Love the case at the end.
Does this still work?
Thanks, great video!
I don't understand: where I see other airplane around me?! Need a LCD screen, but in this video is not present. Why? Help me, please..
You'll need your favorite navigation platform.. Garmin, Uvonix, iFlyGPS and several others. Once done you connect via wi-fi and you'll see traffic around you as well a receive weather, Metars, Pireps, weather radar overlay and more.
@@avflyguy many thanks.. :-)
Damn man, this is a super clean install, best I've seen to explain how to do a whole pi setup
How do I get the data out of this unit into my Phone or tablet so I can read the data ?
The unit should broadcast a WiFi signal. Connect your phone to it and put in the unit’s ip address to get to the system settings.
Is there a special app that I need on my phone to interact with this device?
BARROMETRE1: Can this be used to have a METAR & TAF reports without being on the cockpit of a plane?
Yes, as long as you’re in range of an ADSB tower. You can also get that info from the internet.
@@thatpilotjo2622 Many thanks!
I just received the box Kit like the one you (brown color). To my great surprise it does not come with the green Board (is it Raspberry Pi?). Can you tell me the board I need to purchase in addition to make this work?
You’ll need a raspberry pi 3 or 3b+. Checkout the build list at stratux.me
Здравствуйте, как отображать на экране
Awesome!
When installing the Stratux and entering software, can you program your tail number or N number to be displayed ?
No, the system is adsb in only. It does not broadcast your location.
WOW! Outstanding video. So many high priced units out there, but finally, a Great man like you stands up for those of us that wants to hold on to our hard earned dollars and get the same results. You Rock!
Great Project. One question: whats the network name and the password?
Looks like you didn’t link the raspberry pie motherboard link. Other than that it’s a great video! Btw do I need to buy heat sink separately or it comes with the motherboard?
Another next to useless ADSB video that fails to even mention the file that is being installed by Etcher.
In his video, he shows just downloading the .ZIP file. That file must be extracted so that there is an .IMG file - Then run the .IMG file through etcher.
Dude, that Cyoung site you Googled doesn't exist anymore.
Nice tutorial. I built one a few years ago, but now I’m exploring travel case and battery options. Could you link the ones you used? Those are the only 2 things that aren’t in the description. Thanks man. Happy flying.
you should use both fans, the make solder-able usb that fits fine
So how do you connect it to the iPAD and see everything?? I'm new to this so don't know how to do it. Your list didn't include the board.
It connects via WiFi. & I used a raspberry pi 3, you can get one anywhere.
Very cool man
awesome!
can you tag a link for the black case (looks like a camera case) that you store the stratux in?
Best job.
can you use raspberry pi 4?
What if the red light does not stop flashing?
reflash SD card
Watch list on settings is how you set the weather by inputting the 4 letter identifiers. If you click on help, it goes in more detail. I haven't figured out about the VOR part. Good stratux build. I bought the same case. I'm still figuring mine out too
Has Cessna announced a date when they are going to buy back all the Skycatchers and send them to the crusher? Kind of like GM destroyed all the EV cars GM made in the early seventies.
7:54 Color code the antennas with some tape and put color codes on the case. Please do not play music while you are talking. Great build and thanks for sharing.
Great video, thank you
Love the video, very clear and informative. Will be building my own soon. Could you provide a link as to which Bovke Case you used, as it does fit perfectly.
Im looking to the Raspberry PI link?
I just used a raspberry pi 3. You can get one from anywhere (amazon, eBay, Newegg...)
Thank you for the detailed video. Can you link to the Battery Pack and Cable that you purchased? I know I can get anythign similar but wanted to compare to your choices. Thank you
I used the Bainoe 1200 mAh battery. I got it on Amazon, but I don’t think it’s available anymore. www.amazon.com/Bainoe-Portable-Charger12000mah-Power-Charge/dp/B074YW6SF2
What about a micro usb to usb power cord and continuously power off of the Aircraft power? Do you have to use the battery? @@thatpilotjo2622
You don’t have to use a battery. You can plug it into the plane or a battery.
You mentioned in your video that you were going to provide links for purchasing the hardware required for the Stratux build. However I'm not seeing it below. Can you please oblige, thanks. Luv your work by the way :-)
The links are in the description.
Great video! i have just started looking at building my own Stratux, and your video was the clearest! do you have a video of it in operation with Foreflight?
Did you ever get an answer to this? My hunch is that you don't need the GPS dongle if using Foreflight on an iPad. Is that your experience?
@@mehtkab yes it was, after building it and getting is connected with my ipad it works great! all for a fraction of the cost.
Nice job! New subscriber too. I’ve seen many other videos and by far yours is much better showing a step by step explanation. You should do another software video and possibly an in flight video showing some of the integration with apps like ForeFlight. Take care. Nick
Here is no technical data dBm dBi measure requests can you answer here Thank you so much
I’m not sure what you mean
Does the version downloaded from stratux has the fix for ahrs when using foreflight? Also what's the latest version of stratux? How does the internal gps work? I've read various comments about it not working and folks having to make the switch to the external gps. Awesome tutorial
Check out my new video!
Would definitely like to see the software side. Thanks for taking the time to make this vid.
Working on the video now. Stay tuned!
Howdy. Great video. I learned a lot from your tutorial. After building this neat piece of equipment what software should be used with it to bring it fully operational?
I would recommend downloading the software from the Stratux website and using that. If you are using Foreflight and want the ahrs to work(but glitchy) there is a dangerzone build you can download from github.
Might want to put that battery on the bottom if you want the GPS to work.
With the way the case is made I have to put it there if I want to use the mounting options on the back, and keep the battery on the unit. But the GPS works perfectly fine still.
I'll never quite figure out why Summitlink made it so that it mounts with the GPS facing in rather than out. Then again they obviously did not test the V2 with the GPYes since it cannot be plugged in at the same time as the second fan.
I know that's so annoying. It can get pretty hot where I am in the summer, and I don't want it to overheat.
Any particular reason you bought that case in the first place? A lot of effort was put into the official case to ensure that it had adequate cooling. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072ND582W
I wanted the tinted color and the option to mount the antennas on the side if I wanted. Do you have a Stratux?
I want a pair. Are they worth it?
Definitely, if you are able to get a pair I would recommend them.
