Depends.. on my main, “this is mine and I like it”.. it’s at like 10 percent lol.. on my worship one it’s at 25 percent but gets up to 38 ish for the soft stuff lol

Hey brother, I get your gripe and perhaps you have been having strained conversations with people on how such worship is organised. I lead teams and congregations for years in spontaneous worship before “spontaneous” worship became categorical. Spontaneous worship should not be misconstrued with going in without a plan - from what you are saying I can imagine people you have had struggles discussing this matter imagined it to be “by the seat of the pants”… in my experience it is anything but. Very generally, those I lead or were my peers had an intention of leaving space for free worship. It is a canvas upon which we know and are confident of what we want to paint with the skills we have. With intention comes a plan or such familiarity with your skill set that either leads to confidence in delivering the offering intended. Don’t be discouraged by those who think it is by the seat of the pants or that it is proposed as a better way of worship. Planning -as you say and I agree - is worship to the Lord too. All your considerations towards Him, whether in the moment or premeditated are offerings. However, don’t be mislead into thinking achieving spontaneous worship requires a large budget, resource or session musicians. None of these things dictate the success of such a musical or performative “manoeuvre”. Anyone can do it. Most of the teams I led weren’t staffers, but lay people - the weekend warriors. That was the greatest pleasure for me to lead such teams. To harness and hone their skills and desires and deliver an offering of music to the Lord that met their hearts desire and intention… because all that is required is the offering of our time and dedication… which is practice in our skills set and nurturing of relationship with the Lord Speaking more personally now and to those who desire “spontaneity”…. Bad news, no planning is planning to fail. But let me encourage you and set you on a path. Most of the biggest highlights as a worship leader weren’t with “professionals” but with people from all walks of life. Parents with high intensity white collared jobs… hard working blue collar who ran their own businesses… teens with a desire to love God but knew little of music and were focused on multiple things like school sport dance and navigating the life of a teenager…. Time time time eaten up… and yet they wanted to give more. I was humbled by that, prayed for guidance and took them into my team and gave them directions to how they could sharpen their sword… these weekend warriors. I led them in drills. We practiced to metronomes on and off. They in fact preferred being off click because the click is like the drill sergeant who’ll chase you down 😂 this is the planning side of things… and when we made space for free worship, my were they free to do anything. Proudest time I was of my last team was when at the height of worship, my drum switched the click off, and his keys wife lifted her right hand to the Lord for a stunning moment before she brought it back down onto the beat… confidence in your skill and desire to express worship to the Lord is the foundation for acting on a whim and accordance with the directions or hints of the spirit.

We are in the process of building a shield ourselves. It’s an 8’x8’x8’ shield made out of plywood and plexiglass. It will have about 10” of padding underneath and sits up against our back wall with sound treatment in between.

Would be cool to hear some before and after comparisons of cymbal bleed.

It’s really sad to see churches like this that don’t even give new music a chance and are completely stuck in the past and they have like 5 members all of which are dying and the church basically refuses to get new members and refuses to do anything to bring new people into the church to grow and just sits in their little bubble and let’s the church die with them. We as Christians should be doing what we need to do to reach out for people to come and see Jesus and experience Christ and the Holy Spirit and instead we’re creating a place where Christian’s go to sing the same music and listen to the same sermons we’ve been listening to for the past 75 years. Not saying that the church should completely change everything but I see a lot of churches wonder why nobody wants to come to church anymore but then refusing to do something that would bring people in. Not just with music but with just about anything
