Documenting my 50s, falling down, hurting myself, failing a lot, but sometimes succeeding, exploring this world, having some fun, and trying to use it all up right as I come sliding into home in a shower of sparks and a cloud of dust at the very end!
These Flowy Forest Trails in Arizona are Amazing! You'll be full of Beans riding around these Peaks!
On the recommendation of some gents I met at Hawes, I went searching for some awesome downhill flow trails, and I found them in the heart of a beautiful Arizona forest.
The Bean Peaks Gravity Flow Trails are some of the best and funnest trails I've ever ridden!
A short and easy pedal to the top is rewarded with flowy and fun downhill goodness!
A collaboration between the City of Prescott, the Prescott National Forest, the International Mountain Bicycling Association, and volunteers from the Prescott Mountain Bike Alliance, notably The Over the Hill Gang, these trails are a place for riders of all skill levels to easily enjoy; and if you're like me and you need to work on those downhill cornering and jumping skills, they've made this trail system conducive to doing multiple laps without leg-shredding climbs to the top.
Do yourself a favor and check this place out!

Black Trails that Terrified Me - Goat and Red Mountain Rush on my Ozark Trail Ridge
มุมมอง 568วันที่ผ่านมา
I decided to try a couple of trails I thought maybe I was ready for, and quickly got in over my head. Though I rode Mineshaft with no real issues (other than wrecking 🙄), Goat and Red Mountain Rush are two black trails at Hawes that are a level above that. Steep, loose, narrow, and lots of exposure make these the scariest trails I've ridden so far. But hey, at least the views were amazing! #har...

Can I handle my first black trail? - Riding my Ozark Trail Ridge down Mineshaft at Hawes Trails
มุมมอง 997หลายเดือนก่อน
After hitting the jumps on Jumping Jack's Cut and the drops on Big Sister, I decided to try something even tougher - Mineshaft - a single black diamond (according to Trailforks) at Hawes. It's the first black trail I've ever ridden. It doesn't have any big jumps or gaps, but it's narrow and a little technical with lots of rocks, tight turns, and a few small drops, so I figured I'd just take it ...

Doing this stuff when you're by yourself makes its 1000 times scary. Awesome job.
@@yeabuddy6070 For sure! Lots of things can be more intimidating when we're alone, and this really was no different.
Let go of the brakes
@@stoneenforcer Lol, if I was more confident in my abilities, I would. I'm getting there.
Fun video! My buddy and I were talking about how the Rice and Beans/Beanie Baby run is probably one of the most fun, due to the fast flow. We did it multiple times. Next time you’re up there, do the Goldwater Loop. Super fun XC run from the same parking lot. I meant to ask, are you a full time van lifer?
@@ButlerDoesIt76 Yeah, the greens were way more fun than I actually thought they'd be. I'll definitely give Goldwater a looksee! Yup, full-time.
@ awesome! So I assume you don’t stay here come May.
@ButlerDoesIt76 Nah. I doubt I'll be here that long, even. Actually, this is the most time I've spent in the Phoenix area since I lived up on Bell Rd 22 years ago, and I've actually gotten out and see way more than then. Although, being a bum, living in a van down by the proverbial river does tend to give one more time to do things.
@ gotcha! Where else do you like to stay?
@ButlerDoesIt76 Well, I sometimes spend a few weeks of Nov/Dec in texas, as my folks live there, but typically, I'll spend April-October up in Colorado. I'm hoping to travel up the west coast this year, but who knows what fresh hell this year will bring me 🤷🏻♀️
Definitely not stupid videos. I love them especially well I'm getting over this cold 🤧. Thank you you rock😊
@@jaydub308 Aww, man, I'm sorry you're feeling poopy, but I'm glad I can entertain you! Thanks, Jeff, I appreciate ya! Get better!
Yeah!!! I'm so glad you made it up there. So much fun!!!
@montefuller4260 Dude, it was SO much fun! Lol, the first day, when I rode with my friends, I was just hootin' and hollerin' and cackling down all the trails! I've never ridden anything like them, and that first time was fantastic! I was just so blown out by the time I made the video. I seriously can't wait to get up there again. Thank you SO much for recommending them. Totally worth it! Also went out this morning and practiced my jump form at Hawes. The last two tabletops on Dirt Therapy, past the whoops at the bottom, are friggin' perfect for someone like me. The first one after the whoops is small but has just enough build where I could practice loading and popping at a nice low speed, and the second one, at the end with the roller in front of it, is the perfect next size up. When it's good, it's so good!
Was so awesome to meet you the other day!! Thanks for talking the time to share words with me! You are absolutely an amazing person! Your riding is awesome, and videos are great! I hope to see you in the future!
@@azbikingcw It was a real pleasure chatting with you! Truly made my day because YOU'RE an amazing person! I'm sure we'll see each other again, as I'm always out there riding. I look forward to it!
Great video! I'm just starting off and I'm terrified too terrified to attempt any of the jumps that I've seen you do in your other videos, but I was confident enough to bike down most of RMR (Goat was too technical) - it really shows that everyone learns differently! But as long as we are having fun thats what matters
@MarkLou-c4v Hey, thanks! Yup, we all have our strengths and weaknesses, and you're absolutely correct, having fun is the name of the game.
Great video, glad to see you exploring and trying new trails. Some rides just go this way, every rider experiences walking trails that scare them and it can be tough. I commend your maturity in noticing your mental state and taking it easy and safe on the way down. Many riders do not do this when trails are beyond their limits and end up in the hospital. Red Mountain Rush is probably the most enjoyable trail at Hawes for most experienced riders. Relative to harder trails like Boulder Dash and Sunset Ridge it is way safer. However the top mile of RMR is still quite technical and has some significant risk. The bottom 2 miles are flowy and rewarding. Also RMR has aged poorly over the last dry year. It has lots of braking bumps and is quite dusty and slick right now, it could really use a good rain and some maintenance. I would be happy to show you some more easy, flowy, and fun trials in the area, if you would like hit me up!
@devincrighton4376 Hey, thanks Devin! I appreciate the compliment. Yeah, if there's one thing I'm always hyper-aware of, almost painfully so, it's my mental state. Riding has actually helped me to notice sooner when it's starting to break down, especially due to fatigue or dehydration. I might just take you up on your offer!
You tried it and that’s what matters. My first try didn’t go that much better, but I always call the first few rides of a black trail “exploratory”. Haha. But after a few hours, I was thinking about how I could do it better and when I would try it again. I was actually going to try it again yesterday and woke up Wednesday with an *almost* senior citizen sleep injury where I can’t bend my right knee more than 90 degrees. Hoping it will get better soon and I can make my next attempt! That top section is STEEP and super loose and videos just don’t convey that. That first drop in is so steep and it looks almost flat on your video. The wide angle fish eye doesn’t do us any favors in preparing for harder rides. Keep at it! Your progress is amazing. You’ve made me want to try and get back to jumping.
@ButlerDoesIt76 Aww, man, sorry to hear about your knee. That blows. Yeah, that first one is quite the doozy, and it looks like nothing on cam. Jumping is definitely at the top of my list for skills to "master" this year. Thanks for your support, Butler. It truly makes a difference for those of us who are trying to come up. Sometimes, having others believe in you when you don't always believe in yourself can make the "impossible" more possible.
@@LifeOfIvyQuinn nothing like a sleep injury. Just hoping it’s nothing serious. Day 4 of it feeling fine, unless I bend it past 90 degrees. So weird. Might try an easier ride soon. I’ve been doing small launches, but nothing big. I probably need to get back at it, if I want to master non rollable drops. We’ll see how I progress. Love watching you progress and try stuff. I use the same theory. If I don’t feel good about something, just walk it. Zero shame.
Great video👌and fear is part of the adventure keep working and don’t stop🚵♂️👍✌️🙋🏻♂️
@cesarm.acevedo8515 Thanks for the compliment and the support! It certainly is part of the adventure!
Don't stress if you gotta walk it. In my experience a black diamond isnt always more fun than a blue or a green. Have fun and keep building up at your own level. If youre not up to it dont stress it.
@@g_mack Thank you! Believe me, I never stress over walking a feature/trail. I like my body the way it is, and I ain't trying to have to take a break because I broke myself 😸 For me, riding blacks isn't necessarily about it being fun. In fact, none of the black trails at Hawes have been fun for me like some of the blue trails (Big Sister, High Noon, Jumping Jack's Cut), but it's about trying to push myself out of my comfort zone. I want to grow both physically and mentally when it comes to this, and even though I was purty scared on this ride, I attempted it. I saw what it was and faced it, and that's still a win. Walking it was what I had to do....this time 😼
Alpe is a killer, but it gets better the more you do it. Definitely a burn out. There WILL be a time, sooner than you think, that you will clean RMR. Equipment is important, but you can do a ton on most bikes 👍🏻. You're killing it, keep it up and don't stop having fun! See you out there again soon!
@montefuller4260 Hey Monte! Thanks, man. I'm determined to level up this year. Granted, I didn't do well on this ride, BUT, had you, TJ, and Travis not talked to me about it, I doubt I would have attempted it, and if I don't "try", I'll never "do". Thanks for getting me to try. Gives me another goal to shoot for!
@LifeOfIvyQuinn just like you said, there's no shame in walking!
Great video. I don't think this gets said enough. I'm not a fan of the just send it People! uh you're not gonna pay my bills if I end up with something broken. Good on you. Also these action cameras are great but don't capture depth/ steepness very well.
@jaydub308 Eh, I'll subscribe to the "just send it" mentality IF it's something I know I can do, but I'm just nervous about it. I'm not a fan of getting hurt, though, so I did what I needed to do in this case. You're absolutely right about action cams not doing a good job of conveying just how sketch some things can be, and this trail had plenty of sketch for me! 😸
@LifeOfIvyQuinn indeed because of you I was inspired to go out to Hawes. I ended up running into Syd and Macky. Thank you for that ☺️
@@jaydub308 Wuuuuut?! No way! That's dope! Well, I'm glad I could help ya get out there!
@LifeOfIvyQuinn yeah crazy right. I don't fan boy over celebrities. But I said hi to them got a picture with them. You are awesome BTW and thank you.
@jaydub308 Aww, thanks, man. YOU'RE awesome! Yeah ,I don't really fawn either, but I think it's pretty amazing that in a country of ~330 million people, you happened to run into them when you decided to hit Hawes.
Hello!!! Have been enjoying your MTB videos!!! Thanks for sharing your bike riding trails in your area!!! Excellent video and sound quality on TV, looks and sounds great, Also your comments of the area and ride trail names is very informative and I look them up on my trails map. Look forward to seeing your new videos!!!
@MrSkulls52 Aww, thank you very much! I'm happy that you're enjoying them and that the info helps! I do all the video editing on my phone, so I do sometimes wonder how it all looks to others. Thanks for the feedback on that. I truly appreciate it.
Yup, thought that was your van with the Ozark bike and purple p pedals today. I was riding Hawes all day, lol. Keep it up your skills are getting noticably better, good job
@eriklehnsherr That would be me! Thanks! I'm tryin'. Been a little lazy this past week because I haven't gotten much sleep. Living the "vanlife" ain't always what it's cracked up to be.

Your videos are amazing ivy!! I’m 51 and I’m doing the same thing as you starting to jump some table tops and small kikers and drops looks small but da fears is there.keep practicing with caution.👌😁👍✌️🚵♂️🙋🏻♂️
well done trying Ivy.. Ive bought a DJ and still havent taken it on the jumps yet hahaha
@g_mack Thank you! This really wasn't the place for me to practice. The fact that it's all cement really played on my fear of putting in more effort and actually trying to jump them. Ah, well. I'll just have to keep practicing and work my way up to it. Practice makes progress!
@@LifeOfIvyQuinn Hi my name is Dennis Parker and I rode a ton of BMX as a kid and with age I progressed into pro motocross and I would absolutely love to get you jumping those tables with the right technique…..They are a lot easier than you think and if I’m being honest I’m really worried about you crashing because I could be wrong but from watching your video it seems like you are thinking speed has a lot to do with it but it doesn’t or it has very very little to do with it so please message me if you feel like taking me up on my offer and I will tell you that I can get you jumping those within (30) minutes or less because I can see and hear how bad you want to accomplish your goal which is huge in making that happen…
@dennisparkerakaheavyD05 Hey Dennis, thanks! Yeah, looking back on it, and especially if you watch my jump practice session out at Hawes, I was absolutely substituting speed for technique. After watching some other folks here and irl clear jumps at low speeds, I realised that's what I was doing and have since started to practice using better form. I think that at this point, for me, it's more a matter of just overcoming the fear than a lack of ability. It's keeping me from really trying to pop. Especially at Desert Trails. That cement got into my head. Thank you for the offer. I may actually take you up on it.
Awesome video had to watch it twice. Glad you found your tripod!
@jaydub308 Aww, thanks so much for watching! Yeah, I really can't believe it was still there. It had been a good 30+ minutes that had passed before I got back to it. Lol, it definitely got run over, but it doesn't seem any worse for the wear 😸
@LifeOfIvyQuinn you know I'm more surprised it wasn't broken. I know people will take found items and hang them off signs at the trail head..... I think I might try to go out to Hawes Friday.
@jaydub308 Yeah, I've seen plenty of lost gloves, keys, and even clothes hung at different trailheads. Just one of those things that makes me really appreciate the mtb community as a whole. It truly seems the most welcoming and helpful group of which I've ever been a part.
@LifeOfIvyQuinn it has put back some of my heavily damaged faith in humanity. ☺️
Me & my bro jumped small ones on the wild horse one. On video it always looks easy, once u made it.. it feels good
@joezyaz Right on! Yeah, POV videos never really show just how scary some things on the trail can be. Especially jumps and drops.
To hell with rain Dry is good 👍 😅 Mark from Maryland Loving your content Thanks 😊
@markmoffett6813 Dry IS good, but a little moisture on these trails would make them so much more grippy 😸 Thanks for watching, Mark!
My sister and I enjoy your content. If you ever come to Prescott we want to ride with you 😊
@Zombierippa Aww, thanks! Makes me feel good that people actually enjoy these. I was actually JUST up there for the holiday! Maybe on the next run!
Look at you, all stepping up your game. Keep it up, run that bike into the ground, when you decide to upgrade, you will be lightyears ahead in the skills category, and you will have earned it. The hard way. Good for you, Merry Christmas, keep it up.
That was AWESOME Thanks. I actually use a motorcycle helmet nowadays 😊
@markmoffett6813 Thanks! I've always loved jumping, but this is the first time I've ever really put effort into actually learning how to do it correctly, or to hit this style of jump.
Hi , new subscriber here because I just found your channel. Thanks. Love your ozark trail content. Whats your opinion on the stock fork on the ozark trail hardtail ?
@markmoffett6813 Thank you! So far, the Suntour XCT30 has done an ok job, but it IS a spring fork, so it's pretty boingy, and pretty loud when it tops out. Even with the preload set as low as it can go, it still sits at the top of its travel and transfers a lot of bumps through your arms. I actually just started using up the 100mm of squish, so I may upgrade to a 120mm Rockshox air fork. I'm just not sure how much more money I want to put into this bike. A dropper post would probably be a better decision.
That was pretty bad ass. Awesome following along , thanks 😊
@markmoffett6813 Hey, thanks for following along! Always fun to share my shenanigans with others!
Excellent. It's about feeling the balance point, and knowing just how much it takes to pop your front wheel up to that point initially. Otherwise you're chasing the wheelie. Too much and you loop it. Always cover your rear brake, which you're doing very well. It's more difficult in dirt to maintain balance point than on pavement, so you're practicing in a perfect place. Practice track standing, it'll help with everything, including wheelies. And it's more useful.
I'm also 52 years old, and eventhough I'm a FORMER BICYCLE 🚲 SHOP MANAGER, and currently on the side work for a MAJOR EAST COAST BICYCLE 🚲 SHOP based here in VIRGINIA BEACH ⛱️, , I STILL CANT WHEELE myself. I also rarely JUMP anything anymore, and RIDE for STRESS RELIEF, FUN, and PHYSICAL FITNESS. I used to race the old SUBARU SERIES in the LATE it's, and early 2000's, and my last race was a 6 hour ENDURO at the TIDEWATER CHALLENGE way back in 2007. Anyway, maybe one day BOTH OF US will be able to POP A WHEELE? But even if that day never comes, JUST GO RIDE, AND HAVE FUN. KEEP THE RUBBER SIDE DOWN!🚲💪🤙✌️
@blnmadisonbm Hey, I'm from VA! Born in Alexandria! Spent many a day at Virginia Beach and also up in Ocean City! Oh, for sure, it's all about enjoying the ride. There are just some things I've always wished I could do but never worked toward. I used to ride a few trails 25 years ago, but I mostly rode street out of necessity. I just got this bike this past August, and out of all the things I've done in the past 25 years, this is the one thing that makes me feel like a kid again, and now I'm determined to learn a few things and get to a certain level. If I never get to the point of riding a long wheelie, or being able to manual, or hit the big jumps that I want, I'm absolutely gonna have fun trying! Keep that shiny side up!
that looks so flowy and fun
@g_mack It is! It's still my favorite trail at Hawes, especially now that I can hit most all of the features and really have some fun.
still trying myself heard shorter reach and a higher bar can help lifting the front end, i think the centre of gravity and weight of bike really matter
@zhanewithah7462 I think all of that certainly matters, especially the center of gravity part. It's gonna be easier to get the front wheel up on a bike with a shorter chainstay than a longer one, simply because you're closer to the back wheel and the fulcrum of the lever. But don't take it from me. I'm just an idiot having some fun and sharing my life with y'all. Take it as just that. 😸
Keep up the good work and great videos👌👍✌️🙋🏻♂️

@brianrunyon8533 Thank you, yeah, as much as it doesn't look like it, it really did make a difference for me. Is it the correct way? I don't know 🤷🏻♀️ but it's what I did. None of these skills come overnight, so just practice and have fun!

Elbow pads and a full face and still got tore up. Dragged my bike down the hill behind me. Would not let go of the things It was acting like an anchor and finally stopping me good time though 😅😅
@davidlindsley6892 Lol, wait....you shaved your butt? 😸 Wdym?? Yeah, that trail is pretty blown out, but still super fun. Went out this morning and was practicing jumps over on Jumping Jack's and over around the NRA jump line, and man, it's all so dry and loose. Almost went down several times.
Definitely caught your front brake lever on a branch, that is what caused you to crash, gotta learn to protect your front lever from trailside brush if your riding brushy trails. We have all been there riding in AZ. Heal up !
@zemog1025 It wasn't a tree branch. I just grabbed a bit too much front brake and the front tire slid right into the granite in front of it, along the left side, and spun my bars hard left as I went flying off to the right. I kinda came in to the turn a bit too hot for my skills. No worries, though. I'll get it on the next run!
Cacti and rattlesnakes keep you on your toes out there. Literally sometimes! If you ain't tumblin' you ain't rumblin'!
@@AIBotGold I'm glad I didn't fall on either one of those!
Nice work! I need to get out to Hawes.
@@jaydub308 Thanks! You should! It's such a great place!
Nice job!
@@17736tja Thanks! I'm tryin'!
Great stuff.... subscribed. Hope you keep it up and evolve. Please tell me you have some kind of tracking so others know you location :) .
@cataplt Thanks so much! I actually have a Garmin satellite messager, but the trails at Hawes are so popular, it's only a matter of a couple minutes before another rider comes along, so I'm not too worried out here.
Just keep at it. You were once afraid of drops and doubles right. And look at you now.
@@josesigala5277 True. That's all we can really do, sometimes!
Are you gonna try red mountain rush. Just like big sister but longer
@josesigala5277 Not sure if I'll get to that one. Honestly, I don't know if I'd survive the climb up, and I've only ridden one other black trail so far. That one might be a little above my pay grade, just yet.
@ The ride up is tough. But watching your videos I have no doubt that you can do it. Just take your time
@josesigala5277 Lol, I'm glad one of us has some confidence in me 😸 Went to Desert Trails bike park this morning and most certainly felt out of my element there. The "beginner" line was quite daunting. VERY different than what I'm used to.
As an az native that has just started riding hawes these are cool little videos to preview them before riding so thank you!! I need to hit more of the trails out there.
@gerardusbrokerhof6850 Thanks! I actually JUST finished a 13 mile ride out there. Hawes is so awesome. It truly has something for every skill level, and with the exception of some of the trails with unavoidable features, as long as you take it slow, you can ride most any of these trails, it seems.
checking in from NC. Found your channel. Beautiful terrain and trails, really like seeing the OT bike. a couple of months ago i purchased OT gravel bike and been putting tons of miles on that one. Like it so much i bought a second one and converted it to road bike. The Ozark Trail brand is really putting some nice quality bikes out there for us. on the MT bike the geometry of the frame with the 70degree headset, the quality of the front shock and shifters really make them comfortable. hope to see more rides, keep posting!
@mybugmy64bug31 Right on, thanks for watching! Yeah, the OT gravel bike seems to be VERY popular, and for good reason. The Ridge has been nothing but impressive, though, I've certainly upgraded necessary parts to ride what I do. I will never get rid of this bike.
hey, just found your channel. I'm one the guys that was climbing that steep section lol
@gilbertdelatorre2617 Wuuuut?! That techy section coming up the wash near the top? Y'all were from west valley, yeah?
@ yup! that was us.
@gilbertdelatorre2617 Right on! Riders like y'all are part of what makes the mtb community so great! If you happen to make it back out to Hawes, I'm probably the only person riding a walmart bike, so make sure to say "Hi" if ya see me!
Nice work rocking Hawes on that OTR! I am sure anyone just getting onto jumping MTBs will find this inspiring.
@@zemog1025 Hey, thanks so much! And thanks for watching! I appreciate it.
OK you had me for a moment, then hoked at the Ozark Trail Bike. Good for you Sister. Murder that bike and then get you something better. So many people see the cost of bikes and say "nah, I'll just sit at home instead" Great job, wish you would consider taking your content to the Green Triangle alternative to TH-cam. Way better for small creators like us, just in case you're interested it starts with an R. But either way you got another subscriber today. Keep it up.
Tryin' to level up! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Nice ride! Thanks for sharing
It's SUCH a fun trail! Thanks for watching!
Best cinematic shots i've seen so far! Thank you!
