Love these old films! The rally cars were so much simpler back then - slower, yes, but still proper production rally cars and spectacular with it. Love too how the world looked back then - life looked simpler too, probably just as difficult day-to-day but perhaps calmer and certainly less crowded. Imagine just parking in the street outside a cafe in a works Escort and enjoying a few moments rest while a handful of locals just go about their daily business! Wonderful.

Going full opposite lock in open traffic... I read back then the road stages very often had so unrealistic times set that drivers had to drive on them close special stage tempo just not to get penalties for arriving late.

Can you please check the year as Cahal Curley is shown on the start ramp in AUI 1500 a 911 Carrera 2.7 RS which he entered the Manx in 1974 & 75

I certainly have no idea of the strain and traps a Rallye like this would bring. So I was thinking, how can cars so different in concept equally make it. E.g. 'lightweight' Bmw, 'tank' Volvo, 'caprice' DS ... 'mini' Mini. All those delicate working pieces of the drive chain, steering etc. It is marvellous. And you can't just stop another, civil Triumph to transplant the 7th set of halfshafts. Another aspect is the adventure itself. We were in Siciliy in the early 80s with our brandnew 900 ems Saab, and going to Enna already was thrilling to us. It is like going from Cadogan Gardens to Kensington High Street in comparison. Well, thank you for the lift and Vaia con Dios 🌷:) P.S. was that a Rolls at 17:18 😯

RAC timekeeper Mr (Bill?) Turner who had a jeweller's shop in Blackburn. I remember he later had a bigger vehicle, possibly an ex-Civil Defence vehicle?

Honestly I found this a but disappointing in that I hoped to hear from Mike Wood himself but I gave up on the "9mm home movie with contemporary jolly music format". I was actually a member of LAC back when Tony Fall and Mike Wood were the big thing in rallying west of the Pennines and LAC was better known for running sprints and hillclimbs than anything else. Actually I might have already enjoyed this footage in period at a clubnight at the pub halfway up Pendle Hill!

Mike used to accompany us on the Prix Des Alpes in the early 2000s. A laugh a minute. Great film Mike. Many thanks.

The german construction authority currently prohibits people from putting deregistered cars or cars with seasonal license plates or vintage cars in garages. A neighbor was slapped with a high fine because of this and I now had to sell my 1976 BMW E3 because I can no longer put it in the garage on orders from the building authority and I can no longer tinker with it outside (in my own isolated garden!) and I can't register it because the body hasn't been completely renovated yet... the new Gavvo legislation prohibits any action in the garage other than driving in and out or out & Invite categorically (even vacuuming!). I even had to put my old car, compressor and work table out in the snow, take a photo of it and send it to construction supervision. In the future, deregistered cars will no longer be allowed to be parked on private property as they are considered a structure as soon as they are deregistered and you will then automatically be contacted and asked for a building application, which of course you will never receive!

Thanks for posting. The irony is that every single car in the background of these photo's is a classic now, right down the the Traffic Police Zephyr MK IV.
