@thatgameoverguy plays through Ghostbusters 2 on the Nintendo Entertainment System!
This game gets a lot of hate, mostly due to its difficulty, and I get that, but when you look past that, there is a legitimately enjoyable time to be had with this game. As a childhood favorite, I have many fond memories of spent Saturday afternoons, battling ghosts with my friends, and trying to stop Vigo the Butch!

      @@rustymixer2886 it's really hard to say. I always felt like Nintendo's marketing, brand recognition, and iconic characters did more to carry the brand than the actual games themselves. They have this way of getting themselves into cultural zeitgeist of children and then every kid feels the need to play those games. Also, they were more accessible. Genesis had great games, I actually think the library was better overall, and comix zone was great, and it looked really cool. But it was also really hard. As a kid I couldn't get past the first level. Even as an adult I struggle through it. Vectorman 2 is a little easier, but still more difficult to pick up and play than Mario or Donkey Kong. I don't know how they've done the car controls, but I think the way it's done in Halo: CE on Xbox might be perfect. This is where you press in the direction you want to go and then press accelerate, and the car then smoothly turns to that direction and starts moving forward in the direction you're pressing. It takes a couple of seconds to get used to, and then it just feels great because all you have to do is press in the direction you want to move just like you would when controlling the player normally. Having said that, Halo always keeps the camera behind you, be you in first person or in third person vehicles, so it might not work with a design where the camera itself doesn't move to face the direction you are moving. I'd have to try something like it to see. But I think it should work. PS. I kinda wish there was a SNES port of this. With the extra colours, proper transparency effects, additional background layers, and even the particular controller layout, which could allow easy eight way movement plus eight way firing (that basically mean move/strafe is easily possible too), it could have been really great on there. And, it would have been real interesting to see how the various special levels with all the impressive graphical tricks would have fared on SNES too. What ifs . . .

    • @thatgameoverguy
      @thatgameoverguy 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's been a looooooong time since I've played Halo, but I do remember the driving controls felt really good. The driving controls in this are weirdly inconsistent. For the most part it goes in the direction you press, but if you wanted to do a 90 or 180 degree turn, you have to rotate around the D-Pad instead of just pushing in that direction. If you try to do a 180 you end up just reversing. On the T-Rex chase level, it's fine because you're going straight, or you just turn at a 45 degree angle, but on the burning level near the end when you have to up and down and around, it's really easy to get stuck trying to maneuver. It would have been really cool to see a SNES port, too. You're right, with all the extra color depth and mode 7 on those boss levels, it would have looked AWESOME! Plus, adding in a strafe would have much run and gun so much more intuitive and comfortable.

Besides, Sega publishing a another licensed Jurassic Park game by this time would make them look as incapable of trying other things; This happened when they insisted FMV was the wave of the future until they had no choice but to put the Sega CD down. That's how I played games as a kid, my friends too. We would get really obsessed with a game and stick to it for a few months before we got sick of it. We also didn't have huge collections. I'm from a poor area, and if our neighbor had more than 10 games, he was considered rich! Of course, in those days, we only had a couple hours at a time to play, given school, homework, chores, and other hobbies. We played outside in those days, if you could believe it! Sometimes, we would get stuck in one spot for weeks on end. Sometimes we just never got around to finishing a game at all and forgot all about it, or lost access to it. This was just one example. Sure, we would play other games in between, but we always had a main that we would keep coming back to, an obsession we were trying to finish. One summer it was Beyond Oasis. We did eventually finish it. Same with Beavis and Butt-head on the Genesis. Kids today seem like robots, no sleep, no school, no responsibilities, no chores, just 24/7 FORTNITE. Times change, and so do habits and perception.

      The SNES game really was awesome. This one is a lot of fun too, but with a slightly different structure and actual passwords, making it that much more playable! I can't recommend it enough for anyone who loves the 16-bit era.

  • @PeeNCee
    @PeeNCee 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I liked it because it kind of reminded me of the first game on snes, that I didn't really like because I played the pc game first and thought it would be like that. But I liked Lost World on Genesis. My gaming habits is hard to read 😂

    • @thatgameoverguy
      @thatgameoverguy 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah, I never thought about it before, but it is actually pretty similar to JP on the SNES. I played the DOS version of JP but only briefly. I've had it for years and just never got around to really getting into it, but it does seem a bit deeper than the SNES version. They're definitely very different, so I can understand being disappointed when your expectations aren't met.

  • @Snotnarok
    @Snotnarok 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

    This game was overlooked because it came out 2-3 years after the PS1 and Saturn, like ya said. This was the year that Final Fantasy VII came out and review outlets and even console makers were really, really taking a dump on 2D games. Symphony of the Night, Mega Man X4/8 etc were getting such awful reviews- because they were 2D and not with the times. That kinda thing suuuure aged well. I was really late to upgrading because- POOR, but I got to play this on SEGA Channel and it was interesting but my dumb kid brain struggled to suss things out. Maaaaaybe because I didn't have the manual. I remember popping it on because it had a lot of fun and was visually nuts. I swear I never saw this in stores, likely because they were trying to get all the previous gen out for new. This was also the days where SEGA dropped that really nice clamshell case for cardboard. This game really was visually nuts for the time, especially if you compare it to the Jurassic Park game on SNES with larger sprites and lower overall resolution. Both neat games but this was surprising.

    • @thatgameoverguy
      @thatgameoverguy 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      All very good points. I was also poor and didn't upgrade until later (I think it was 99 before I got a PS1) so of course I was in the Genesis section at blockbuster to actually see this. It's such a crime though, because as you said, it was really way ahead of other 16-bit games in the visuals department, and it was a lot of fun. This wasn't just another quick movie-themed cash grab, they really put time and effort into this thing. I am glad to hear it landed on Sega channel, though, so there actually was a bit of an audience!

    • @Snotnarok
      @Snotnarok 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@thatgameoverguy That's where I got Sonic and Knuckles, no box, no manual and no flip top cover. Same later with Breath of Fire 3, just the disc and it had that anti-tamper label stuck on it. But hey- I could afford it so YEP. I know that pain. I've seen so many games get ignored because they're on the Genesis. Even today where you can actually buy some of them. Like JRPGs? Try Phantasy Star 4, super fun. "Oh. . . it's on the Genesis, I'll pass". Like the console wars are still going on- mental. Well whatever limited audience it had since most people are shocked by hearing about it these days. Hell a lot of youtubers get some info on it wrong- the one that it didn't have the ability to save?? How else would you play JRPGs. It's where I beat Phantasy Star 4 and Shining Force 2

    • @thatgameoverguy
      @thatgameoverguy 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Snotnarok That's how it was around my house too. Lots of ex-rentals and crusty second hand garage sale games. No complaints though, I did get a lot of great games that way! I don't get where this hate for the Genesis came from. The criticisms I hear on TH-cam aren't even valid for the most part. Some complaints about the sound chip are valid, but this belief that the SNES was somehow so much better is baffling. They're both great in their own way, and the Genesis had a great library full of games from Dev teams that weren't afraid to experiment and take chances. I feel like it's mostly the younger crowd that wasn't actually there to experience the consoles side by side. And the claim that Genesis didn't have the ability to save? 😂

    • @Snotnarok
      @Snotnarok 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@thatgameoverguy Nah dood same haha. I got some games from my gram but my parents ever only bought me one piece of video games: "Earth Worm Jim" Why? NO IDEA. I recall even being confused back then- but grateful. No idea why my dad picked that. For sure, both platforms are a ton of fun, I love me some Megaman X, Kirby, got to play some Mario and recently finally hit FF6 via the pixel Remaster. Since- I didn't own a SNES I was a bit late to beating games but got to play tons of the games via friends. No no it was the SEGA Channel that youtubers claim couldn't save games. Which makes no sense since they had RPGs on there like Phantasy Star 1 and 2, Shining Force and exclusives ( to the US) like Mega Man the Wily Wars. It could save 1 game. So if you played Phantasy Star 4 and saved? You were good for all 3 saves. But if you played Shining Force and saved 1 of the 2 files? PSIV's saves were gone.

      @@Snotnarok At least he picked a good one! Earthworm Jim is an all-time classic! I was the same way, I owned a Genesis and didn't get a SNES until after the PS2 was out, but I did get to play a lot of great SNES at friends' houses. Oh, ok! I never even thought about Sega channel saving games, my friend had one, but not me. We also bounced around to a lot of different games, rarely ever playing one for more than 1-2 rounds, but I guess it must have been saving, because we did get really obsessed with Beyond Oasis for a while.
