Schlaeferskopf - the Dormouse Mountain
มุมมอง 302 ปีที่แล้ว
Another quick pleasant hike. This time it's up the Schlaeferskopf or Dormouse Mountain. Schlaeferskopf is a mountain in the Taunus range in the vicinity of Wiesbaden. It's name derives from Siebenschlaefer the dormouse, a sweet mouse living in tree holes and feeding on acorns and berries and sleeps a lot.. We will pass a stepping pool called Kneip Tretbecken which is fed by a natural cold strea...

It really touches me to listen to how enthusiastically you report about this little town of Eltville and how you enjoy the little things there that we take so much for granted in the beautiful region on the Rhine that we unfortunately often don't even notice. Thank you for opening our eyes😉
@@Monilikesmusik yes we tend to look at the big things which make us blind to the smaller beauties. I can marvel at a small rock creation or an old tree appreciating every bit while others go for the grand canyon. Same with small towns and singular houses instead of big cities. What do we say beauty is in the detail, in the little things. And that makes me happy. Thanks for dropping by friend 😊
Thank you very much for this nice video from the little town Eltville🌹 on rhine❤
And thank you for dropping by dear friend 😊
We visit our friends there, Hans Larg and Ulrika.. beautiful town and region.
@@jezwaters2773 sure is. Thank you for dropping by.
I wonder when these mines were active? They are all over the Taunus.
Until after the WWI. Some even until WWII.
Nice, you visited Wiesbaden. But sorry, my friend. This is not Rambach. You say Sonnenberg and write Rambach. This quarry is located in Sonnenberg. But there were many quarries in Rambach and Sonnenberg. They worked until the 1960's in the quarries. The little doors you can see in the forest, are no mine shafts. These places were storage places for the dynamite and the men could hide there. You can't bust above a shaft while degrading minerals underneath. They also degraded silver and copper 100 years ago. But at different places. Greetings from Rambach and Sonnenberg.
On the border of Rambach I guess. Thanks for some infos that are really hard to find. Maybe a relative of yours worked there?
@@viclucyziaNo, my family owned a little bakery. I talked to some old people many years ago. They don't live anymore.
Thank you for those informations that sadly get lost in time@@dagmarkiontke
@@viclucyzia They don't get lost. There are people archiving those informations. Heimatforscher and Stadtarchiv.
AUCH sehr schoen Danke❤ 7:54
Danke. Schön dass Sie vorbeischauten. LG
Lovely region, indeed. Thank you for this little film. About roses and vineyeards: in some regions, they used to plant roses near the vineyards. If the roses sickened, it would be an alert to check on the vines.
Thank you so much for those informations. You know many very interesting things.
@@viclucyzia Not really,. Thank you again for your docs.
Kiedrich wunderschoen Ich waar schoen mail dort ein schoenes dorp danke❤
Danke fürs vorbeischauen 🙂Ja Kiedrich ist schön. Jeder der dort gelebt hat bleibt oder kommt zurück.
You forgot one feature of Kiedrich, which makes Kiedrich a household name in Germany: the "Kiedricher Chorbuben" (Kiedrich Choirboys) who since 1333 cultivate a special kind of Latin plainchant in the "Germanischer Choraldialekt" - I think they are the only ones in Germany.
I know the Kiedricher Chorbuben even heard them (older generation of course) but I didn't know about that fact. Thank you we learned something new. Thank you for stopping by. Regards.
@@viclucyzia I came to your channel via "The Chap's Guide".
@@viclucyzia Andreas Scholl (countertenor) and Elisabeth Scholl (soprano) were part of that choir. He is one of the most well-known countertenors...
@@RM-tc9pu Thank you for the information ! Very interesting ! And thank you for visiting our channel.
@@viclucyzia Mr. Scholl often mentions Kiedrich on interviews. Even working on the vineyards..
My wife, Rudi, Gretchen, and I visited the city several times. I remember seeing the House of the Seven Deadly Sins.
Yes. I should have included it. Good point.
A lot of time and effort goes into making something that will only last a few days.
Yes and normally it wouldn't make any sense however using it as an tourist attraction apparently brings in more then the expenses. If you still know any place you went during your stay especially nearby kindly let me know I might be able to include it in future videos. Best regards.
My wife and I visited Eltville numerous times when we lived in Germany. I remember walking to Eltville with my dogs on a path near the vineyards. I remember the duck statue. We lived in nearby Kiedrich.
I have the impression you were in the military that time. Glad it gives you back memories. Nice having you visiting our chanel.
@@viclucyzia I was DoD civilian. I was there twice, from 89-92 and from O3-08 when I was married and had the doggies.
@@genes.3285 My wife worked in the commissary 97-99 and my father was working in the USO 10-12 if im not mistaken. Now Wiesbaden is the USAREUR.
My wife and I watched your excellent video of Kiedrich. We lived there, on Mariahilfe Strasse, from 2003 to 2008. We loved the village and we were sorry to leave. Our house overlooked the village and we could always see the castle tower. We were there with our two German Shepherds, Rudi and Gretchen. I would only suggest that the music could be lower.
Thank you very much for your comment. Sorry about the music I will be more careful next time (put on my hearing aid) . Very nice old town indeed. Those from there or stay there or return. Very few leave it. I will do some more videos of the surroundings (I have one about Eltville - you may check it out). Best wishes.
Hi Uncle Vic and Auntie Lucy :)
Miss you
Hi Vic and Lucy! Just got here from Ash's place and saw you where in Bad Vilbel which is really near my place just one town over. A word on Hassia - the company seems like a local mineral water spring at first glance but they actually *own* something like 15 further mineral water springs and lemonade producers across central and east-central Germany. Including the Rapp's juice and cider producer along with a spring one town up the Nidda in Karben (they make great Apfelwein). And yes, Bad Vilbel *essentially* is a glorified suburb of Frankfurt by now😆. Best regards Raoul G. Kunz
Thank you for stopping by. What a surprise ! Yes Raoul you are right. I should have inform myself a bit more. Many nice places around. Maybe Bad Soden will be the next if not another hiking tour. BTW I am looking for a vintage hunting tweed jacket possibly belted at the back so I can go hiking and nature walking dressed 🙂 Regards.
Its so beautiful!!!. i love it! May you healthy. Keep going. Im support you 👍🏻 From malaysia
Thanks for visiting.
