    What a great looking van. thank you for showing it to us. Gives me hope for our 1979 CF we bought new in Sydney. Brought it back to NZ in 1991 and it had been sitting idle on our driveway from 1999 to 2021 when I decided to get it going again. It has a stock Holden 6 cylinder 173 'Red Motor' th-cam.com/video/ft1zktFsy9s/w-d-xo.html

    I had exactly the same van, same year, same colour, same condition. I had converted the 202ci boat anchor and 4 speed manual to a EFI 5.0 litre V8 engine with a B&M shifter and Turbo 400 transmission. Fastest van in SA!!

      Thanks for the comments👍. Yeah I put the engine in around 2002, it was from a VN Commodore 1990. It also has a Th700 4 speed auto. The combination works quite well and was a fairly easy conversion compared to some others I've seen.

    Hey can you give some info on your dash I’ve got a cf2 with a commodore as well what have you done with brakes and steering I’m yet to do mine Cheers

    • @allnoid1
      @allnoid1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Chris thanks for commenting, the way I went about it was to use the Commodore gauge cluster and fabricated the surround out of sheet metal . This meant first fabricating a mounting frame and then the outer cover to go over the top. I first made them out of cardboard and transferred them to sheet metal. Once the gauge cluster was completed I then built the rest of the dash using a metal frame and MDF wood then covering it. The dash is pretty basic but I didn't want to over complicate it. I converted the brakes to HQ disc back in 2000 using a Castlemain Rod Shop kit. Not the greatest kit but that is all I found back then. I use the standard rack and pinion as the steering is not that heavy since the engine sits back a little further than standard and the offset of the wheels I use are close to the original position. Hope that helps and happy to reply if you have further queries.

    Hi mate I might be checking out a 77 cf same as this very shortly for 9k it has red 202 6 in it but what does it take to put the 3.8v6 in it?? Does it simply bolt in or would I have to cut and change few things

    • @allnoid1
      @allnoid1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, yeah there is a bit involved but depending on your skill level will depend on how easy it is. There is a company that can provide a kit that includes mounts wiring and templates for cutting the floor and making a new engine cover etc. There kit positions the engine differently to this one and there are pro's ans cons for either. I used their sump but then fabricated the rest. This included adapting the Commodore radiator to fit, fabricating engine mounts then using the Commodore rubber mounts. I had an aluminum fuel tank made to fit the Commodore fuel pump and fuel sender unit so the gauges all matched and I could use the Commodore speedo as well. You will also need to get the drive shaft shortened Happy to answer more questions if you have any. Cheers

      @@allnoid1 cheers for the info, I'm not very mechanically minded at all hahaha so I'd prob ask a friend or a shop to do it if I decided to go ahead and buy it. I have a mate that's good at welding and fabrication work he just built a vn Commodore with huge turbo v8 he done all the pipe work and welding himself so that could save me some cash.

      Hi Chris thanks for the comment, this van has had an HQ disk brake conversion, Ford XB rear brake drums, widened borgwarner diff 3.45:1 ratio, custom engine mounts, v6 conversion sump, Commodore radiator and cooling fan, custom aluminum fuel tank with Commodore fuel pump and sender unit, Commodore gauge cluster, TH700 transmission, 17 x 8 Mags with AU Ford Falcon offset, as this sits almost in the original offset and the v6 sits slightly further back than the original engine the steering is quite light and does not need power assistance. 2 1/2 stainless steel cat back exhaust system. This is the basic running gear specs, just let me know if you need more info, cheers
