For your cucumbers, try this: 1/4 cup vinegar, 1 1/2 cup water, 2-3 tablespoons salt, a bit of pepper (to suit your taste). Slice the cucumbers and let soak in the refrigerator overnight. It’s something my family has done for years, though I have no idea where the recipe came from.
