This is the story of how 2 months and 11,000 miles riding through backroads on a 250 dual sport helped me realize that I needed to rethink my life to return to what I enjoy most. Thanks again to everyone who helped me along the way and made the trip a beautiful experience. Thank you all for the kind comments and moral support! I think what finally did the motor was the hot temperature of over 100 degrees days and not letting the bike cool off. Now i'm a bit more north so should be a bit better with the engine not overheating anyway I guess this is part of the journey to understand the machine and to learn what it needs before it gets to that point. Super thankful for everyone who has helped me along my journey I would not have made it this far without their amazing help. In this episode, I cross the Colorado Rockies through passes like the Ophir pass and the Cinnamon pass. For the next episode, I will be making it through the Utah section of the Trans America Trail. Advice on solo travel from a Psychotherapist 8 months into traveling full-time
We ride to be free of lifes ills and awaken the wanderlust .. sleeper must awaken
Always present and awake while riding.
Stay “good” please - the world needs more good people.
Nice. I waited later, until 56 years old after being in the same high stress job for 30 years. After almost five years of no time off at all, literally being on call 24/7/365, I was in a bad place mentally and physically. My two oldest kids had recently learned to ride on the street and I bought them both KTM 390 Adventures. I've ridden for 25 years and have a BMW R1200 GS Rallye. We had been doing a lot of day rides locally together and after my daughter graduated high school, I pitched the idea to my wife of me taking a long break, several months, from work and taking the two kids on a long trip. She agreed immediately and the planning began. August 1st, 2023 was the day I shut my business completely down until November 1st. My clients didn't like it, but they understood. We spent 50 days on the bikes and covered about 8200 miles riding all over New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado. We had intended to do a lot of camping but between my daughter straining her left shoulder and some nasty weather, we ended up doing more hotels. It was still good. We had a great adventure, met many awesome people along the way, and made memories that will last the rest of our lives. After getting back, I had just under month before going back to work. I did a short trip with a long time riding buddy to the Ozark mountains in Arkansas. When it came time to go back to work, I decided I had to make some changes going forward. I increased my fees significantly. I told my clients that from now on my phone would be OFF from 2:00am to 9:00am every day of the week. I also told them I would be taking time off throughout the year, but I would give them 30 days notice before doing so. I lost a few clients, but in the end I am working less, making more money, and have more time to spend with the family, especially on weekends. I really enjoy what I do, but I have so little control over when I have to work because time is always of the essence for every job and they have to be completed and sent out within a few hours of receiving them. I can't schedule the work at all. Some days I sit around doing nothing all day and days like today I put in 18 hours and still have work left over for tomorrow. If you are interested, here is the trip report, which includes route information that might be useful for your future trips, www.twtex.com/forums/threads/there-comes-a-time.134239/
I've watched several of your videos now and really must commend you for doing such a great job. Ride safe my friend. 🙏
Thank you! I appreciate it.
Proof of what an “adventure ride” is all about - you just never know what experience you’ll have.
I’m so happy that you’ve come to these realizations so early in your life. I’m 57 - took me to my early 40’s to realize it. I’ve been a commercial photographer for 33 years - it’s a high stress biz. My “balance” came from stumbling into riding horses and the horse lifestyle. Three years ago, while letting my horses recover from a various issues I stumbled into motorcycles - motorcycles are literally my “iron horse”. Thank you for sharing your story. Be a good person and be good at what you do and all will fall into place. Stay safe.
Right on man, it's crazy how what some see as a "hobby" turns out to be this thing that helps us more than people know.

Hey man, we met way back in Feb in a hostel in Geneva - great seeing you pursue that trip you were talking about and making a mini doc about it. Keep going brother 🎸
Hey, I remember you, you're the snowboarder. Thank you and hopefully, we'll run into each other again down the road, you never know.
Thank you for sharing your story, Steven. Sadly, many of us find too late that our life and this world are so much bigger than a tiny office in NYC building and a number of digits on our bank account. Happy you found your true heading. Best of luck with your journey! 🖖
Thank you! It's easy to forget how big the world can be.
"Only do it if you love it" is great advice and something I think a lot of us would love to live by. In reality it's easy to get caught up in a lot of things you don't love though. I've lived and worked in a van for two years before Covid and amidst that chaotic life style - working in cafes, chasing wifi, sneaking into showers, peeing in bottles, fixing leaks in the pouring rain - it was somehow easier to follow that advice than back at home. I relate to what you're saying a lot. Like you, I work as a freelance videographer/editor and have a tendency to say "yes" to too many jobs. And like you, I've been trying to turn it around by creating videos for myself again on TH-cam. Hell, we even got the same bike! Sort of anyway. It's been nice to follow your journey. Love your just-go-mentality and wish you luck on your next adventure.✌
I took a look at some of your videos, keep it going! And absolutely, it's a lot easier than I thought to get caught up doing things I don't truly love and now I'm trying to find the balance between having my main motivation be the love and not the money but also still being able to pay the bills loll.
@@StevenDelatorre02 Thanks man, appreciate it! I really like yours, great vibes. And yes, that balance is key. It’s out there though, waiting to be found.

Hi. Can I ask what GPS and Mount setup that you have?
I use a Garmin 700i montana that is hardwired into the ignition
You said you are alone but just watched you receive help moving your bike over that snow field. Stop lying

My son and I are finishing the TAT today. We lost a top end on his DRZ and ended up at Mikes shop too. He told us “a guy on the TAT came through recently on a Honda with a seized engine that no one would help him with”. Crazy. Mike was awesome. Enjoy your trip!
For real he definitely saved me there because no other shop in town was able to help me out
I have a 40 year old bike I've been fixing up. Love rideing something I've worked on.
That’s awesome, each bike especially the older ones all have their specific characteristics and it’s fun to get to know what they are and how to treat it accordingly.
Glad you are ok and happy to see you back on the road! Let the adventure continue!!!
Ok. That’s pretty cool. You passed 3 of our guys heading up Cinnamon Pass and pretty sure one of the other 3 took your pic at the top while we waited on the rest. Also appreciate you confirming or decision not to do Ophir Pass. It was a 100mi detour from Silverton to Telluride but beat getting 8 big bikes through that snow.
Congrats, epic adventure

Who’s the mechanic in Boise?
@@mauricerobinette4408 the one who was finally able to help me out was Mike who runs an independent shop that was referred to me by a shop called Carl’s cycle sales
@@mauricerobinette4408 this is mike’s number +1 (208) 949-1855 if you need work done on dirt bikes, atvs or motorcycle in general these guys are really good at what they do. I brought the bike in at 1030 or so am and they gave me a call to tell me it was running that afternoon but just needed to wait to the next morning for the air filter to dry out since it’s a kandn filter that is hard to clean out after it gets dirty
Is your jacket a tornado? We just bought all new Rev it tornado 4 and we went with white jackets. We’ve had black the last few years and it makes a big difference in heat you feel especially when moving slow.
I have the sand 4 h20, i usually have the vents open all the way for the heat, probably would have been good to get white for heat but im nervous about how dirty it would end up looking lol
@@StevenDelatorre02 I hesitated for the same reason and I was pleasantly surprised that the silver color isn’t white but more of a of white and it looks really cool even with black pants.

You the man!! Are you using Sam's, Kevin's or something else for your route.....and are you using the route or tracks option on the Montana? Tracks seem to work better for me, but some use routes, so I'm curious what you're using and how it's working out so far? It would be helpful to put a link to the next video at the end of each video, and you can do that in Studio using the "End Screen" option. More work, but it sure makes it easier for the rest of us living vicariously through your adventures!! Safe travels!!
I'm using Sam's route and I believe the tracks option on the Montana but yeah it was a bit tricky to get set up with that and once I got it on it was super easy to use although I would of liked for it to tell me how much miles left to the next turn etc. And thanks I'll do the end cards.

Man, I’m sorry that happened to you, and I’m glad you’re OK.
