Polygamy is not necessarily a sin in itself, but it is just the action that follows. Polygamy was not accepted by God (Deuteronomy 17:17), but because the world normalized it....The kings of Israel were influenced to do it( as it was culturally accepted at the time). Also in the same verse it mentions that having many wives will turn you away from God. Polygamy opens that door to sin just like how drinking is not a sin, but opens the door to drunkenness which is a sin.
