Grizzlies for the Clearwater: Beyond the Great Divide with Louisa Willcox
มุมมอง 1375 ปีที่แล้ว
We once had a thriving population of grizzly bears in the Salmon-Selway-Clearwater ecoregion, but all were killed during a century-long onslaught by European settlers. These Idaho and Montana wildlands are now the most extensive of any in the lower-48 states, with the promise of supporting as many grizzly bears as we currently have in the Greater Yellowstone and Northern Continental Divide Ecos...

Wildlife experts and citizens share why the 29 roadless areas on the Nez Perce and Clearwater National Forests need to be protected for species persistence.
Dirty Gold

Learn about the harmful and controversial practice of suction dredge mining in rivers of North Central Idaho. Suction dredging uses a motorized pump mounted on a floating platform to suck up stream beds in the search for gold. Sand, gravel and silt are then discharged back into the stream. Heavy metals such as mercury left in historic mine tailings may then be remobilized and bioaccumulate in a...

The previous video, "Dirty Gold" comments are turned off...transparency isn't a thing with you I guess. Misleading and some parts blatant lies.

Sounds like they don't want people in the backcountry. Maybe slightly reduce predator numbers..

no such thing as back country in the lower 48 white boy, the lower 48 is a joke cause there is too many roads, Idaho grizzlies will never be delisted until they occupy central Idaho again, Idaho's delisting application was rightfully rejected recently

@@jacobcampbell1548 easy access and way too many roads, the lower 48 is a joke, only Canada Alaska has real back country, the lower 48 was ruined a long time ago by Manifest Destiny and white people

In the summer of 1965 I was working for the US Forest Service as a surveyor mapping the North Fork Road. We stayed in a cabin at the junction of the North Fork and Skull Creek. Best summer job that I ever had.

I started elk outfitting in 1970. Wolves and grizzly sighting would happen every couple years. In 1995-96 when we had the bad elk winter kill the wolves were introduced. Where the hunters would see 75 or more elk a year, when we sold out in 2005,they saw 9. More bulls than cows. The last 3 seasons we hunted were 99 elk more bulls than cows. That doesn't make a very good breading population. I say if the area was right for the wolves and grizzled, we would have seen more sign that they were going to populate in the first 25 yrs we were out in the North fork drainage they would have. Now with the wolves there is a minimal population of elk, deer, and moose in the area. I say the carnivores can stay in areas where peoples lively hoods are not at stake. I personally would like to watch the elk, deer and moose every day than nothing.

A logging wasteland, even in the 1970's when I lived there during the summers (Harpster, ID). Too much mining and cutting for a river basin that size.

I am utterly disgusted by people who have killed an animal posing proudly with its corpse. I will not call the remains of a dead bear a carcass unless our own dead bodies are carcasses, too.

The Selway Bitter root and Frank Church wilderness complex is already the largest in the lower 48. And now they want to add the clear water region as well? What’s wrong with leaving it straight National Forest? And leaving the recreational opportunities that provides? Not everyone is a backpacker or mule skinner, nor can they be.

Leave it to the state and feds to really screw things up. Donald Trump is truly the enemy of the people and all that is good. In California, Nevada Irrigation District is hell bent on destroying the Auburn Ravine in there attempts to build more golf courses and exclusive sub divisions. King salmon and steelhead trout, that were once abundant in the ravine, are diminished to almost zero. A simple fish ladder would allow these magnificent creatures access to there historic spawning grounds, but NID continues to defy the people's will. A healthy America will only exist when we as a people restore the health of our environment.

The answer is no. Which is why the Clearwater Basin is considered a glacial refugia. There were some glaciers in the highest points of the Divide, however.
