Mrs. Ennis makes a small mistake here. When talking about Mistral Wind and saying that the initial riff was created by Roger Fisher. The initial riff, that dissonant introduction, that Nancy played for her before starting to write the lyrics, is authored by Nancy herself (although Roger's guitar later replicates it). Roger Fisher created the electric guitar part in that whole tempestuous bridge of the song, just as Nancy tells it in the book. However, the introduction that gave rise to the entire song is Nancy's. See Roger Fisher himself, crediting it to Nancy. From minute 2:46👉th-cam.com/video/nCoOFOCgE3w/w-d-xo.htmlsi=D4eQ_r2tmQCYhDHn

I NEVER would have thought that Moby of all artists/people would not only record music with someone like Mark Lanegan but also be a big fan of a brutal Metal album like Pantera's "The Great Southern Trendkill"!? After seeing and hearing Moby doing a song with someone like Gwen Stefani and doing music like he had (more electronic/"Techno" like music). It just goes to show that you truly can't judge a book by it's cover! Good stuff man!

I spent my teen years living in the same townhouse community as Jeff, and even then he was a great musician. I remember going over to his house for "Ham Jams" - where he and his brothers would play for a couple of hours. He was always willing to share his talent and show me how to play parts of songs, and I was in awe of his abilities. Just by happenstance I came across his name associated with the Violent Femmes, and that led me here. I'm glad to see that he has found success as a musician - doing what he has always loved. Thanks for all the good memories, Jeff - and all the best to you in the future.

When Mark died my dad texted me to break the news, which I'd already found just by opening my browser while on my phone in a public restroom stall, upon which I just said "Oh, my god" aloud. I had just introduced my dad to his music some years prior. What I would have given to have met him if only just to tell him that his work served as a safe place for me to go to while enduring the effects of alcoholism, mental illness and coping with trauma from abuse. It says so much about him that nearly every show he did when he gave himself the opportunity to engage with fans that all of those who met him had so much to say about the meaning his work had in their lives. It feels like we lost more than a singer, it feels like we lost a guide to soothe us through these troubled times and through our own dark moments. Lanegan was, plain and simple, not of this world. There is not one motherfucker like him nor will there ever be, and the world is a darker place without him and his voice.

I really appreciated this podcast. And the song that you started the grOOvin' with is the song that got my hair standing up on my head and arms when I heard it epically building it's powerhouse of SOUL from the speakers at work. "Shadow of the Season" sounded so amazing, and considering what just happened a month before, it was the perfect Screaming Trees or Mark Lanegan song to hear right now, so dark but uplifting with deep wells of Soul that Mark almost always brought to the world... Living right down the road from where Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and Pearl Jam recorded some of their best music, I have been a big Seattle bands fan for a long time. Pearl Jam was my favorite band in High School, and I just heard "I Am Mine" as the very first random song at work last night, it felt like such an amazing start ALIVE!!! with hope and soulfulness... But I will always remember when a rocker kid from school who I barely knew recommended Screaming Trees "DUST" and I started to listen to it on my walkman for quite a while. Such an amazingly SoulFull album with Marks deeply world weary voice carrying our souls along foror the inspirational ride together...very uplifting to me, this album has meant so much to me and only grown in depth over the years. Now that I have found love it has been one of the most important records that I have gotten to share with my sweety, "Dime Western" and "Look at You" are just heavenly in their floating SOULfully inspiring world of sonic rapture... Anyway, thank you Mark Lanegan for your great courage in following your honest vision of the dark side breaking through transcendentally to the light of eternity in the moment of creative expression..... And thank you for bringing this very meaningful podcast to us brothers, this is just what I was hoping for, trying to understand more about this story of struggle and integrity, peace and love to all 🌌🌄
