The Mhw-3Bomber Calibrated tamper-should you buy it?
มุมมอง 3.8K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
Hi there! Today we’ll take a look at the mow-3bomber calibrated tamper and see if it’s worth the price. Long story short-yeah. Apart from a few quirks (a bit flimsy, 58.35 and rippled base) it is really nice. At a discount, there’s really nothing else like it. If you have any other questions drop them in the comments!

Yes I have the same problem with mine 😂
What would be the difference if i used it at 12 or if i calculated and adjusted the height where it reaches the coffee grounds lets say 8? Wouldn’t both stop when it reaches the coffee grounds? So why would i bother and adjust it?
Mine broke in less than 6 months. Customer service is a joke. Avoid this disaster.
I’m sorry to hear that. Mine is still going strong. I’ve had nothing but good experiences with timemore
Precision and accuracy are 2 different things. If the cheap scale is not accurate, but it says the same number everytime, it's good enough for making coffee
Yes, you are right. The video was not focused on precision. You can get there, but i found the variables to ne oberwhelming. The fact that it has 4 feet means even the smallest bump on the table will make the results different from what they were the last time. So maybe you can get the precision to an acceptable degree, but it would be quite the hassle with all things considered
Mine works correctly, it does have a small lag sometimes but the weight is consistent.
That’s great. I think as long as you use it on the same spot it can be of good use for some time. But when inconsistency becomes a problem, after ruling everything out, you might want to consider this as well.
hi, how is your now? Is it still ok? I notice that this scale isn't durable
It still works perfectly. To me it seems very durable, almost like the tank that the big mirror was
Heyo i have this exact tamper, got from amazon. Mine seems just blocked. I also Disassembled to check on the spring inside but mine doesn't press, doesn't go down, if u got me. Any advice? Is mine broken?
I think you should disassemble it and lube some parts. Surely something wasn’t put back together properly
I have this same scale and concur, have ordered a new one
so, everytime i want to get it in espresso mode - i have to tap left button 5 times and than 5 times more? am i correct? its quite annoying
It is quite annoying. But i almost never use the timer so it’s ok
is the upgrade plug and play?
I would also like to know this
Depends on what plug and play means to you. You have to buy the pump, opv and adapter. Or just the pump, but you still have to open the machine and change it
Beli nya dimana ? Ada link ?
a.aliexpress.com/_EzZzrfH Any other depth calibrated tamper from aliexpress from aliexpress is just the same
@@microsom7081 thank you for your link .. it’s help me alot
Just saved me $15 - thanks
No problem! You can find a lot of other good scale. Honestly most of them. Just not the one with 4 load cells instead of 1
How did you get a flat base? Thought they were only sold with the ripple base?
It’s rippled. It’s just that the ripples are very small and you can’t see them on camera. Imo they are worthless and would be better with a flat base. Now there is a kit available on ali with multiple bases including a flat one. But it’s quite a lot more expensive
Frustrating increase in weight randomly 0.1 0.2 0.3 so hard to stick with zero under my Silvia... So annoying to pulling a shot and get a correct weight, im using regular mode ? Any tips or maybe i have a fauiler unite
You might have a bad one, if it is still in warranty try to get it fixed. What i noticed is that mine does this too when my phone is near it, probably because of the magnets? You might have a similar problem with the silvia, but that seems far-fetched. Maybe the electronics inside?
Thanks for responding , I figured out a solution sound strange, when i put it on drip tray and the scale touching the metal of my silvia pushing it to last point no moving this problem occured .. When i slightly put the scale 5-6 cm far a way from touching my sivlia the problem doesn't occured !! Its seems like you say some electrical magnet to do ghost weighting and happen to multiple users with this scale . I already open a refund claimed and they accept to return it , meanwhile i will keep the scald and hope everything being fine in this period so i will cancel the refund .@@microsom7081
is that breville a 58mm ? I have a 54mm breville and looking at the sculptor as well. wondering how the 54mm would affect the workflow ...
Yup, it is. I don’t think it will affect the workflow too much. You might have to get a separate dosing cup. People tend to change those anyway, perhaps for a blind shaker.

Amigo eso esta muy bonito
Thank you!
👌
Very good talent👍
Thank you!
Those are insanely light looking beans, and I like light roasts. They look like quakers haha
Haha yeah :))) they were very hard to extract but were really amazing! The roaster made me a filter before buying the bag, using the 078. It really was something else
@@microsom7081interesting! Where are they from?
Nice video although the pouring pitcher is different 😉 I can froth the milk nicely but I fail in the final step where I need a good foam to create the art. Foam is either non-existent or too thick. Anyway, I can get delicious coffee from my Dual Boiler which is the important. By the way, I make two coffees every time but I found the second runs faster than the first, to get same timing, I have to change the grind between each coffee, it’s weird but does it happen to you?
I sometimes pour from one pitcher to another to make it more uniform. You might have some inconsistency issues, maybe try counting the seconds you incorporate and see if it helps. Also make sure to only let small puffs of air in. For hou long do you pregeat the machine? There’s no way the bdb could be this inconsistent. Maybe with the first one the portafilter is cold, that could explain a few seconds
that looks nice, I am planning on buying the same setup, whats your opinion or review?
It’s amazing! I can do whatever i want with it and don’t feel the need to upgrade. That being said, if you want to drink more milk beverages, the timemore won’t give you the thickes texture, but it will get you close enough. After seasoning and learning how the equipment works, you’ll love it so much. It also makes a very good filter coffee
thanks, that is very useful
nice video!! how long did it take for you to receive your 078s after placing the order?
I bought it trough kickstarter-got it in about 8-9 months
What pitcher are you using?
A black motta 350 ml
@@microsom7081 Thanks!
What shot glass is that?
It’s the kruve eq propell glass
I always do these things for a cup of coffee, its tedious yes, but i like doing it, its a way for me to relax and the coffee is amazing after so its a win win
Yup, it’s the most relaxing time of the day. You get to enjoy the process as much as the final cup
why do you spend so much money on an espresso glass though?
That was actually a gift. But for how much espresso I drink, maybe I’d have eventually bought them. Just the ease of use and how nice they are make up for the price.
A real adult beverage
For all those smooth jazz lovers out there.
Just a perfect match with the perfect espresso
That cup looks funny 😅. Nice flow ! 😍
Thank you! It’s the kruve propel, kind of like a rocket :)))
What is the scale for? Once you know the level of your cup, just go by eye.
It’s so that i can stop it exactly at the same time every time. You’d be suprized by what a big difference 10 grams could make
Ugh WDT in this day?!? That's soooo spring 2023!
How could i! All jokes aside, i’m really curios to see how a blind shaker would change things (or should i say shake things up)…
I'm thinking about 064s or 078s for my Oracle, it's essentially the same as your BDB but with a basic grinder, is it worth to spend the extra $700?
For me it was 500 bucks. It was 100% worth it, the coffee is just amazing. Now, i don’t know how the built in grinder is, but i’m sure there is a noticeable difference. If you are happy with it, maybe you don’t need to upgrade. Or maybe you do and so you basically have 2 grinders. The thing is you will miss the thick texture, but will very much enjoy the sweetness and fruitiness. If you decide to upgrade, keep in mind there is a learning curve, you might not even drink a good shot in the first week or two
@@microsom7081 oh so you got in on the Kicstarter price, yeah that's definitely worth it, plus there is a lot of delay in shipments nowadays. Built-in grinder is not that good, plus the burrs need replacement so I thought better to invest in a good one, will lokk into 078s now, thank you for your reply.
Slow feeding is no gimmick, my man.
Yup, but it’s hard to control for espresso. It’s great for filter, but not very reliable for espresso where everything can make a difference.
@@microsom7081 It's really not though. Just be consistent with your feed rate.
Do you have a 078s and use it for espresso? Because a lot of people have reported it like so
@@microsom7081 No, I have a Eureka.
It depends how far down the rabbit hole you want to go. I can’t be bothered with slow feeding at a consistent rate personally
Nice video! You deserve more love from the algorithm, the lighting of your videos is really nice. May I have some discussions? I was wondering why you said "WDT is outdated", is there any reasons why you said that? That one kind of caught my eye!
Thank you! I really tried with the lighting! The WDT thing was a joke, referring to Lance Hedrick’s recent video about the blind shaker Which caused quite a lot of controversy
@@microsom7081 Oh, so it was a joke all along, I didn't expect that... My honest opinion is that I don't know if it's really "controversial", because the density of solids/porous solids is something that is commonly talked in materials science. It's a critical parameter to achieve homogeneity. I don't know if the concept has been used before in coffee, but Lance did a great job publishing it in a friendly way that most can understand. I greatly appreciate his discussion! However I think the way that he explains it with the porcupress is a little bit unrelated and might refer to an entirely different discussion, because it has nothing to do with the relationship between homogeneity, the "shaking" process, and density. Let's hope that his video will bring the costs of shakers down and maybe spring up free 3D models which we can print. Only then I'm going to test! And congratulations for this video, it seems that this will become your most viewed one.
Thank you once again! The theory behind it sounds very promising, but from a statistical perspective the sample size is still small, the existing research is not necessarily supporting of it, etc. It remains to be tested some more. I would love to try it myself, gotta say that i really think lance is onto something
@@microsom7081 I'm thinking of a tumbler-shaped dosing container that fits OUTSIDE the basket/porta instead of inside. Maybe some cups with an exact rim diameter can work. You can shake it with the grounds inside, and hope that it'd land more uniformly on the basket than just dropping it normally. If I have access to my Flair 58, I'd have tested it in a heartbeat, but I have to refrain from that idea at the moment as testing on a Flair signature doesn't sound like a worthwhile endeavour due to its very thick puck.
I can see what you mean, but i think it will be actually worse than just shaking in a thumbler. I tried keeping my dosing cup in the basket and shaking with it. I could never get the grounds level. But it would surely be worth experimenting. I’ll be following you if you decide to do so!
Nice workflow 😍
Thank you! Much appreciated
how does the "A" mode know when to stop timing? worried it would stop when pausing for multiple pours.
In espresso mode it stops when the flow stops. In filter mode it only stops when you touch the time button or you lift the filter or the karafe off the scale
I thought Ali is on the right . Untill read the comments.
Yup. Looks are deceiving
The tare takes about a second in this video
Not quite a secound, but about so. Just like many other scales :))
how deep should I set my espresso tamper for 51 mm portafilter ?
Doesn’t depend on the basket size, but the amount of coffee. Trial and error should be your best bet
niceee
Thanks!
do you know if the spring can be changed? or do you have a tutorial on how to fix the tamper? my nephew opened it, and now I can't get it to work haha
I no longer have the tamper, but you can reopen it and put everything back together. Just unscrew the handle
How do you like the sculptor?
It’s pretty nice so far. I have yet to experiment with the variable rpm, but i really like. It’s very consistent and makes tasty shots. The only thing that bothers me is that it vibrates a little
I’ve been waiting for 6 months for my Sculptor!!! I sure hope it’s worth the wait. Nice tamper.
@@CeramicGrillworksbe prepared for A LOT of frustration. I got mine and I've put 6kg of coffee through it and I'm still having difficulty. Some people have it squared away out of the box. Some people have chronic issues that ease over time.
@@machineslave3 Thanks for the tip. I received my tracking number today.
😂
Nice, do you have link to Aliexpress?
Yeah, it might be this one: a.aliexpress.com/_EGUBH5n But you can also find for just a bit more an actual force calibrated tamper, like this one: a.aliexpress.com/_EI8gYup
I bought one too and it stopped working after 3 weeks. And the seller refused to refund me.
Same exact model cost 4$ what do you expect from 4$ scale
Mine is perfect
How long does it take to get the milk to temp with the Dual Boiler? I have the Breville Express and it takes over a minute. Is this steamer faster?
Yes, as it has its own boiler with much higher temperature, hence the pressure, so its much faster. I would say 2 times faster easily.
I got that scale for usd4. Crazy right. But for the price, it's great. I didn't get a bad one, mine was slow, sensitivity around 0.2g or 0.3g but not 1.5 g. I did check and it was a bit off can't remember exactly the number now but like 0.3 g different from another scale I have. Overall pretty good for the price. But yes, very slow and annoying.
I just ordered the cheapest, but why the expensive one showing 13.5 😮
Because the "expensive one" is literally 4$ 😅
