Aref Qazvini composed 'Weeping into Drunkenness' in complaint against the rule of Naser-ol-Mulk, the tyrant and traitor to the homeland(Persia) , who was the regent during the time of Ahmad Shah (in the year 1910 AD). With my hands, I freed the bloom from its snare, And placed my nest in the branches, unaware. Now, under the rule of Nasir al-Mulk, the kingdom falls, The house stands empty, echoing foreign calls. No longer do I seek the company of the blind, For now, I find my solace in the tavern, intertwined. Better it is to be lost in drunken bliss, than to dwell in pride, For life is but a fleeting tide, with nothing to hide. I swear by the joy that intoxicates my soul, My peace, my refuge, found in the wine's gentle pull. *The dead who lack art, are lost in vain,* *Their false cries bring no solace, no gain.* *Our night, a mirror to the coming dawn,* *And I weep through the dark, till the light is drawn.*
