Nice method but you forgot the most important step by the end, renaming sethc,bak to sethc.exe and renaming cmd back else the sethc,exe will always work as cmd

The reason I created a partition is because my laptop only has space for one hard drive.

@savvytechtips The D: drive is not reserved for a DVD ROM drive. If there is another drive, windows just assigns the next drive the next available letter. Jeez, you really don't know what you're talking about.. If you had any long term computer tech experience, you'd set the cd-dvd drive to the drive letter Y:, unless you are actually installing an application from the cd-dvd. Then Z: is appropriate. In most cases you"'ll be installing from an ISO or IMZ or other image file and in that case the cd-dvd needs to be Y: as when you mount an ISO the OS uses Z; as the default for the mounted Image. This is done so later if you need the to change or uninstall an application you wont be searching for the correct installation drive letter. If you make all your application installations from the Z: drive to begin with it makes troubleshooting or unistalling applications very easy. For example; You install Microsoft Office Professtional but only install Word or Excel. Later you decide to install Outlook and since you use Z: drive for all your installations the system remembers that it installed from Z: drive. If you let the OS determine that D: drive is the cd-DVD rom then when you install MS Office from the DVD then add a partition for games now all your installations will be screwed up because you've been using D: for the DVD and now the DVD drive is E: Your narrow point of view clearly shows your inexperience on what partitioning is for.

Wrong, the reason you partition a drive into separate partitions is it's faster to restore the Windows system drive if all the apps are on the D: drive. I have had only 2 HDD's fail in the last 20 years.' If something goes wrong it is most of the time a Windows OS Issue. The reason why it is still valid today to have separate partitions is this simple reason. So much for your Savvy Tech tips! Here's a couple of old but still up to date teck tip; 1. Two partitions C: drive for the OS, D: drive for all your applications 2. Make weekly or monthly Images of C: drive and make monthly backup images of D: drive on a usb drive. 3. Always store any pictures or created files on a usb drive, never on the system drive (C:) or the Apps drive (D:) 4. Never delete a file on a SSD drive before making a backup on the USB drive. So your premise is Stupid stupid stupid.

The pioneers of the computer systems partitioned. If they did it, you need to be doing it too. They knew a heck of a lot more than then these kids do today

That's not the reason I partition a drive. I do it to save my important stuff in case I have to reinstall the OS.

Not so savvy now. Partitions still necessary on single-disk systems to separate the os and apps from user data. Makes it easy easier to backup and / or restore system without affecting user data. And if course that implies moving desktop, my documents and other stuff to another position. Of course, if the system allows installation of multiple disks, it's way better and easier to use a separate drive for user data rather than a partition, but many notebooks don't have this capability.
