Jet Sled Extension DIY “brandon box” build video
Welcome to another edition of Reel Maine Fishing everyone! In this video I’ll show you how I built my jet sled extension- also known as a “brandon box”- based on a video I saw on Joe Holland’s TH-cam channel.
Had a blast building this and now that I’ve used it, I’m even more in love with the way it turned out. I added a custom welded auger mount for my Ion Auger and integrated some LED ground lights. Hope you enjoyed the video!
Material list:
1 sheet of plywood 4x8 5/8 thick
Flat stock steel
3/4” square stock steel
Zinc hex head bolts
1” thick trim for lip on top
Milwaukee M18 Power Adapter

Shoutout G4 Outdoors for their guide on doing this build.
@@TravisInCanada1 yes G4 is where I got the idea!
How does the drill battery perform? and how long would you say it last?
It works awesome. My 12.0 lasts about 10 hours
Any problem with the step down converter
None… this box hasn’t given me any issues at all
Do you need to add a fan? I heard some of these boxes getting hot if not fan is installed. Any advice?
I haven’t had an issue with it at all… when I’m out on the ice the box doesn’t overheat and when I’m out on the boat on 100° day, it still doesn’t overheat
Really really cool…..
@@C.Fowler thanks man! I love this box - highly recommend
How has your transformer held up?
@@DYFishing83 still works great and I have hundreds of hours on it!!!
CAN YOU PLEASE DO THIS IN A STEP BY STEP VIDEO 😊
Done!
Awsum!!!!!!!!! “;-)”🎣
What’s the point of the switch panel? Besides the light strip? Could you just wire the battery to a kill switch in the kill switch to the black box power everything
@@colemantaylor6996 course you can. The point of the switch box was to have the USB ports etc - but not necessary
@@colemantaylor6996 course you can. The point of the switch box is to have the USB ports etc, but not necessary.
Why the switch panel besides powering the light strip. Couldn’t you just wire the battery to a kill switch in the kill switch to the black box to power everything?
Do you have a link to the rubber grommet by chance?
@@zschwacks no sorry I don’t, but I just picked them up at Lowe’s in the hardware section
How did you wire the switches so the first one turns the power on. Do you switch the two + power wires on the first switch?
The board comes all prewired so I ran my inverter power through the first switch with the red wire and the black wire all ties together to the other black wires.
Just. Curious. Will the. Speaker fit on the. Top lid of. The milaukee pack out
I built a similar box last year, but mine has a lid. It's heave, but my Quad pulls it fine when all loaded up. I used scrap 3/4" OSB flooring from a home improvement project. I like your auger mount - I wish I learned to weld! Maybe I could use Uni-strut to make something similar.
Honestly, the auger mount didn’t work out. I didn’t build it soft enough to care for the auger on our snowmobile trips and it was damaging the auger… had to scrap it
Awesome video. Tight lines from auburn maine.
Can you share the inside dimension locations of your hinge ball center points? I have the same hinges but I'm having trouble getting the spacing right that allows lid to open to 90° and still be able to close the lid. Thanks Jon
I will check on the dimensions tonight
Hey! great minds think alike! I put together something fairly similair to this! had a nice table top so I could lay my tent on top above everything else and use the table for filleting, cooking, etc. made a little hook on the back for 20lb tanks as well. Gjob man! can't wait to see when it's all done.
Have you used this set-up the summer time? Or do you remove it for the summer months? I might build one for my nephew but he uses his a lot in the summer too and don’t want to create a bunch of work for him every season! It looks like a sweet system for sure!
It is a lot of work. Takes me hours to transfer it from the boat to the Magellan box. But yes I move it from the boat to the box in the winter time and then back to the boat in the spring. Once I have another couple grand floating around I will buy another one so I don’t have to do it every season
i haven't tried it in the summer. I take it out and put it on my boat
Any issue with the Black box overheating?
Nope!
do you have to run the screen independently on a switch? Once you have power to the black box, doesn't the power run from the box to the screen???
I have to run a power separately to the screen
Dose the ion auger head pack with snow from your snowmobile track throwing snow/slush?
I don’t ride to the lake with it on the side like that. I just put it on the side when I get to my fishing spot and I’m drilling holes and setting traps
Will the Garmin 126 ultra fit in this box ? If not can you recommend a box that will ? Thanks
Anyone get a Garmin 126 to fit in this box or similar?
I tought the system could go 12v to 32v ?
Yeah. I run mine with my 12ah m18. Haven't had any issues.
Nicely done, man .
Very clean build, best one I've seen so far. Do you think there is room for 93sv (9" screen) version?
Thanks! I didn’t think that the 9 inch screen would fit but people in my other video are saying that they made even the 10in work
I have questions on the internal measurement on the lid after the gas shocks were added. I have a 1042 head unit and it may not fit.
How. Much. Did the sled. Weigh before. The brandon box and how much did it weigh after the brandon box
Honestly, I don’t know because I never cared how much it weighed… I am hauling it with a bearcat and I hardly feel it
Are the struts 6” or 10 “?
six inch
Yes detail version please, can't see live wire to pole comes out of box.
Wondering if anybody can help me with the Pistons he's using
@@tomwiskup4642 I put everything that I use in the description of the video. These are the gas struts from Lowes. www.lowes.com/pd/Richelieu-Brushed-White-Lid-Support/1000597933
Love the video wondering where you got your gas shocks from .
Just wanted to thank you for this video. I built one using the same box and lifters, but simplified it a bit. I also used a RAM ball mount on the inside of the lid, so I can tilt out the screen a bit. Instead of a switch panel, I just used a toggle switch to turn off the blackbox, and went with the larger 32 ah 14.5V battery. Your video was super helpful!
Awesome! I’m glad it was helpful man!
I know this was asked earlier but now that you have used it a few times. whats the life of it on that 18 am battery!!
I get 10 hours on a 12.0 battery
Nice work on the Brandon Box! Great upgrades.
You should sale these
I made this same box and I can confirm that the Echomap 106 SV (10" screen) will fit. It does take some patience and a few trials though. Used Amped Outdoors Li battery though. I too struggled with the shock placement and have a few extra holes too. Nice work on the video! Thanks for posting.
Yeah, I can send a photo. To what email address?
@@sethwheeler7811 Where did you mount the 106SV at on the inside lid? I couldn't get mine to fit inside the box closed with it attached.
@@darrenadams1112 I'll send you some pics. What email should I send them to?
Man, I just finished my build with a 93. I'm really wanting to move over to the 106. I know this is an old comment but man I'm hoping you still get a notification and wouldn't mind sending me a picture or two of your setup and how the 106 fits
I'm watching you! LOL.
Hey, that was a great video! Very informative and ingenious! I just started a new fishing channel a few weeks ago, myself. I gave you a thumbs up and I subscribed to your channel!
What size are those elevator bolts? And what bolt size did you use to hold up the top bracket?
Good video! Can't wait to see it in action man
Appreciate it! It really works so well to transport. I’ll upload some videos from our derbys this weekend soon so you all can see it in action for sure
Hi everyone, just wanted to let you know I uploaded a breakdown and walk-through of the dry box in case anyone wants to take a look! I appreciate the support
What size is that box?
30 quart
What LED light strip is that?
How long are the gas cylinders you ised
Does the transducer fit inside the box?
Will a garmin 93 fit inside
I don’t think it will
It might but I think it will hit the gas shocks
How is the build working out for you out on the ice?
@@Reelmainefishing do you have any photos closer up of the inside and how things are mounted and tied together? I have all the components bought now just need to put it all together. Thank you !
@@toddbrim1791 it is working really well. Even when the snowmobile trails are super rough it takes a beating in the tote sled and it holds up great.
i'd love to see how you wire the switches to the black box. looking to build something similar. just got my 93sv and lvs34 in so trying to figure that out instead of a bog.
Dumb question probably but is it one power cord that goes to both the black box and the head unit or do you need a head unit power cord and a black box power cord?
Is this the 30 qt or the 19 qt dry box
30 Quart
