Fall Smallmouth Trip on American Lake
Marc Marcantonio fishes American Lake in western Washington for smallmouth bass. It is a clear fall day and the water level in this natural lake has been dropping to low levels. Bass fishing is getting more tough each day. He shows tips on rigs, tactics, and experiences interesting situations. Marc also reveals who invented the teardrop dropshot sinker. Marc also shows a glimpse of his secret worm and how he rigs it. Notice how he works the worm with his rod tip. There is even a blooper in this video.

    Still looks kinda bulky....maybe why it is discontinued?

    • @marcmarcantonio
      @marcmarcantonio วันที่ผ่านมา

      Although it appears bulky, it actually is compact for a full-size sturdy tool that is meant to last. The cable is heavy duty, and it would be difficult to make it more compact. I didn't know it was discontinued (I am not affiliated with AquaVu), but would guess more likely it was the price. For those that think of underwater cameras akin to toys or for only occasional use, it costs too much. For people like me who use it as a scientific instrument and wants it to be reliable, durable, and lasting, it is a bargain at the price it sold.

    I like your video and appreciate your instruction very much. If that technically works for you or anyone for that matter, great. And not that you need to know my feelings on it, but I’m convinced to NOT learn it because of the convenience today regarding better made drags. Therefore I’m lazy, but thanks for a great demonstration 👍🏻🎣

    • @marcmarcantonio
      @marcmarcantonio 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You are right that today's premium reels have great drag systems; I use only the best drag systems. That being said all drag systems have to overcome inertia before they start slipping. That is all it may take for a trophy fish to break light line, or pull the hook out. While playing a big fish, everytime the drag stops slipping it takes inertia to start again. This will make no difference in playing most fish, but it makes a huge difference when fighting a big fish on light line or line that may have a nick in it or is worn, or the knot is getting weak. Every start and stop also increases the size of the hole made by the hook. Many IGFA World Records and line class records are owed to backreeling (including several of my own). Same with tournament wins. Of course most anglers don't hook trophy fish so are not likely to need the technique. The tough part is finding quality reels today with an anti-reverse lever; they are a weak point for fishing reels and most don't use them, so manufacturers are starting to build reels without them to lower costs and reel failures.

    Marc, good stuff. Not to be “that” guy, but there’s a lot of gear noise in that motor. I’ll be interested to see how it sounds when in the water. We try to get our trolling motors as quiet as possible. Has there been any footage of the system under the water?

    • @marcmarcantonio
      @marcmarcantonio หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is a good question, and I will know more when I use it on the water soon. I can say that my GoPro camera makes the motor sound much louder than it actually does in person. I have noticed this in my other videos as well, that certain noises (like string trimmers and leaf blowers) sound like they are in my boat when I am 1000 feet away. It actually sounds quieter than all the other turrets I have fished with. Also the motor is well above the waterline, and noises above water do not travel below water unless they are low frequency. I require stealth in my fishing for smallmouth bass, especially in water as clear as I fish. If it spooks fish at all I will find out, but I doubt that will be the case. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @RevolutionSonar
      @RevolutionSonar หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mark has already covered most of it and for sure microphones tend to magnify when there is little to no background noise. Our testers have not mentioned motor noise one time as an issue. @@marcmarcantonio thanks Marc, I always enjoy your content. Quick question I have a new boat with a hydraulic jackplate. The transducer is mounted on the starboard side of jp & while looking at side scan I get vertical lines on port side scan. The deeper I go the more vertical lines. I was told a hole shot plate would most likely cure this?

    • @marcmarcantonio
      @marcmarcantonio หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@corbinwadlow2044 Yes, a hole shot plate will fix your problem. The lines are from your SideScan signal bouncing between the insides of the jackplate. A holeshot plate prevents the signal from getting inside your jackplate where it bounces around. A side benefit of the holeshot plate is that you get less prop wash when shutting down, and a slightly better hole shot when getting on plane.

      At the end of the summer the majority of smallmouth bass are in that depth range. By color-coding my contour lines on my C-Map built-in chart, I can easily see where the preferred depth is located and can keep my casts in that zone. Hey Marc. Awesome channel. Lots of info. Question for you. Have an elite 9fs and sometimes it shows my boat on land when I'm clearly in the water. Any ideas why and fixes? Thanks in advance for any help.

      @roriesmith9510 Apparently your area is not covered in good detail for your map data. Might consider adding a mapping chip from C-Map or Navionics. Thank you for watching!

      Install the 1.3 which also includes all previous updates. No reason not to update, it is good.
