Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show 2024
There is no way I could get all of the amazing and beautiful quilts from this show in Sisters, Oregon. It was pretty warm this year, in the 90's. I noticed there was a lot more people selling water this year than in previous years which helped a lot.
Some history about the show:
We do that through a series of annual events, most notably the largest outdoor Quilt Show in the world held on the second Saturday of July.
The show began when founder, Jean Wells Keenan, hung a dozen quilts made by friends and family along with her own, outside her quilt shop on a Saturday in July. A few more ladies brought their quilts to show, then a few more and a few more. The show became an annual event, hosted by the East of the Cascades quilt guild. As the show gained in size and popularity it outgrew the resources of the guild. In 2003, an Executive Director was hired to manage the show and new events were added including the Around the Block Quilt Walk and Fiber Arts Stroll, Wish Upon a Card and other partnerships with community service groups.
Quilt Show began in 1975; Non-Profit was established in 2005
Attendance: ~10,500 on Quilt Show day
Staff: Executive Director; Part time office staff, and an army of Volunteers!
Economic Impact: $1.7 million and the equivalent of 26 jobs in the Sisters area*
Over 90,000 website hits/year at www.SOQS.org

Just a walk through town in Sisters Oregon during their annual quilt show which is always the second Saturday in July which is known internationally as being the world's largest outdoor quilt show which began in 1975. I was not able to get to all the quilts but it's always a joy to go! Last year was too hot, this year was just perfect!

When I have tried to sew them together, they never match. One side is always a little bit longer. Is there something I’m doing wrong?
I believe it’s because they are cut on the bias. Try cutting with the fold 1/4” over the zero with salvage end down, cut the fold off at zero, then cut your 2.5” or 3.5” cuts

You don't preshrink your fabrics? Love both quilts! I like the checked border, makes me think of summer time picnics.
Most of the time I don't preshrink my quilting cotton because I love the extra crinkle I get after the first wash. My flannel I always preshrink.

I wanted to go this year, but something got in the way. But I did go up to Sister’s in early Oct. 2022, and loved the town. Hopefully, I’ll be back in 2023.

They are quilted in all kinds of ways, some hand quilted and some on a domestic machine and some on a long arm :-)

Beautiful video! I cant believe you got it put together so fast. you must be a person with many many talents! I was so happy to see my quilt made the video, because part way through the day it blew down. (it was the giant rainbow colored hexagons on white background around minute 4:30 on the front of the Stitchin Post) It was such a wonder and beautiful day, thank you for sharing it with everyone

That's a really good question! I'm still working on the blocks... I will update when I have enough blocks and figure out what to do with them though!

I haven't finished it yet, I suffer from finding lots of quilts I love and then starting them all... :-) I'm working on finishing some. I plan to put sashing in this one yes :-)

Aren’t you suppose to start the ruler at 0 to get 5.5” squares?
You can measure however you like in order to get the 5.5" squares, my ruler has a 1/2 inch edge on it, so I use that.

The snowflake fabric in the border is great because you want your watermelon chilled.
