Why on a steerable that raises automatically when put in reverse?
@@kylefitzy to help in tight turns. Even with a steerable in the rain you'll scoot in the turns. Don't raise it all the way. Hit the up button as you start the turn then hit the down button as you complete the turn . See a drop axle in front of the drives takes weight off the steer axle. A drop axle behind the drives puts weight on the steer axle. And every axle increases payload because of the states and FED "Bridge" Law. In KY as long as I cross no scales I can haul 80000 lbs gross with a 16 ft TRI axle dump. That weighs 26500 lbs. But in Ohio. I can only haul 68500 gross. Costing me 6 tons of product. But at some point a short 5 axle semi is better than a long 7 axle straight dump truck.
@@jerrykinnin7941 you’re correct for the most part. However, I can guarantee the very same truck in the video would be specified specifically for your home state -or at least to accommodate your state’s road and bridge weight regulations. Those pushers and or tags can be configured to lift or substantially lower suspension pressure either when turning and or backing up. It doesn’t matter if they’re steerable or not. The Prevost (Volvo) X3-45 automatically dumps the tag axle suspension when making a turn.

Some states it’s illegal, and the have a law that states it has to be outside, this is to dissuade the driver from only throwing down when there’s a scale and picking it back up after they pass through!
@@jacksonwhittier3646 which states? I'm from Kentucky the drop axle is on the PTO console with a Dial-a-pressure switch and pressure gauge. With 425 floats on tag and steer In the rain you cannot steer around corners without raising the axle. I miss that old Mack Tandem axle 23/65 Camelback suspension 88000 lbs gross. 2stick trans. Kept GREAT air pressure. Nothing was air ride.
