Walkabout is another great Australian movie like Wake In Fright. Breaker Morant. The Chant Of Jimmie Blacksmith and The Proposition

I saw _Walkabout_ as a 'free' extra before a main feature back in the early 70s. I will never forget it. Much later on I learned about Aboriginal courting rituals, and was greatly saddened when I understood the story better.

Wonderful interview. Ms. Agutter praises the other actors, the director, the author, the story, the film, but never once tries to claim any responsibility or credit for Walkabout. That is extremely generous of her and very rare to hear from an actor these days. Maybe it's an English thing, but she certainly deserves a lot of the credit for her wonderful performance.

Thank you so much for doing this. Walkabout has never ceased resonating in my soul even though I only saw it once when it first came out; one of the only films to have that effect. A true masterpiece in which to become completely immersed.

It WAS an extraordinary film and an extraordinarily good performance, by any actor far less a sixteen-year-old. Casting Jenny was genius. David Gulpilil was also superb.

I met Ms Agutter in London back in the early 80's. I was in the US Air Force, stationed in East Anglia. I hadn't seen American Werewolf in London, I didn't even know "Walkabout" existed, I didn't see that in fact, until the 2000's. I did know her from Logan's Run, she was gorgeous in that. Anyway, I literally stalked her sort of. They used to have a nationwide entertainment paper back then, it'd list almost every concert, play, appearances, etc. I was looking at it, I was on a week's leave. I saw her name in the paper, doing some kind of literature thing in London. I had a little Ford Escort, I drove into London, walked around and went to where she was supposed to be talking. It was wrapping up, it was literally all of these older women, dressed all posh....I was wearing blue jeans and a golf shirt. I walked up to her and said hi, she made a comment about me being American and she touched my arm and told me to hang around for a few. She went on doing the niceties, after that she wanted to know if I wanted to go get a sandwich. So off we went, walking to some take out with tables outside. I was laughing hysterically inside, wishing my best friend David could see me at that moment, he was nuts over Logan's Run. And there I was sitting at a table with the lady from the film. I acted kind of ignorant to her movie star status. She asked if I'd seen the werewolf movie, I of course said no, I did tell her I knew her from the Logan film. So she asked a lot about me, about where I was stationed, where I was from in the US. We talked for about 45 minutes and then parted ways. Jump several months later and I saw her name in the paper again. I got the day off and drove to London again, I was feeling really nervous, I didn't want her to think I was stalking her. I sat in the back while they were talking authors and writers. I almost left and while some other lady was talking she looked my way and waved. So I stayed. Pretty much the same scenario again, we went and had a bite to eat, she remembered my name which I was chuffed about. So this time when we parted ways she wrote a London phone number down, I don't think she lived there all the time but she told me to call the number and leave a message and we could go out for a proper meal. I never called her. Go figure. I couldn't tell you why exactly, I was in my early 20's, a bit of a low point in life, self destructive, shortly after that I was sent back to the States, I never really thought about it again till a few years after that and realized I'd blundered. I often wonder if she'd even remembered me. She likely had sandwiches with lots of people so.......

I was of a certain age, so, obviously, because of your involvement, this became one of my favourite films; still is, but David was great too, a force-of-nature. he was unique really. I am an artist too and he has appeared in some of my landscape pictures. Also, Diogenes I think it was who said 'you are standing in my light' when Alexander the Great was blocking his view! Maybe Roeg got it from him!

When I am ever asked to list my favorite movies, Walkabout is always my top of the list movie. I first saw it in the early 1970s when it first came out, and I have never tired of it, and I'm always finding something interesting in it. For example, when thinking about how the theme of the movie is of a time of innocence that is left behind, a Garden of Eden time of the children's lives they cannot return to, I am reminded that at 72, I also have times and places I can never return to, something that we all must experience as life goes on. I just love all of the symbolism, honesty and sensitivity of this movie.

I remember seeing walkabout when I was a young boy, on my grandma’s very small tele. It was sometime probably in the early 60’s. I was born in ‘54. I was fascinated by it all, but obviously at the time you were the first naked female I had ever seen. It was love at first sight. I seen a few other females since then, but the love still lingers.

I know Jenny Agutter from her 1985 film "Silas Marner" with Ben Kingsley.
