Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a disease with longstanding implications related to its migration history, populations affected, disease severity, and systemic concerns including systemic racism, that have led to health disparities
The two most affected groups in the U.S. are Black/African Americans and Latinx populations In 2015, the overall U.S. population of Latinx persons with SCD was estimated at nearly 9,000 Currently, there is little published on SCD in Latinx individuals. This presentation seeks to communicate ways we can better understand Sickle Cell Disease in Latinx individuals.
