A "DRI Mechanical HOD" in an iron and steel plant refers to the Head of Department (HOD) for the mechanical engineering team responsible for the maintenance and operation of the Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) plant, overseeing all mechanical aspects of the DRI production process, including equipment upkeep, troubleshooting, and ensuring optimal efficiency within the DRI unit.
Key responsibilities of a DRI Mechanical HOD:
Overall Mechanical Maintenance:
Leading the mechanical maintenance team to ensure all DRI plant machinery, including furnaces, conveyors, crushers, and cooling systems, are functioning properly and within operational parameters.
Preventative Maintenance Programs:
Developing and implementing comprehensive preventative maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and predict potential equipment failures.
Troubleshooting and Repairs:
Diagnosing mechanical issues arising in the DRI process, coordinating repairs, and ensuring timely resolution of breakdowns.
Equipment Optimization:
Analyzing production data to identify areas for improvement in mechanical efficiency and working towards maximizing DRI output.
Capital Projects Management:
Overseeing mechanical upgrades, modifications, or new equipment installations within the DRI plant.
Team Management:
Leading and supervising a team of mechanical engineers, technicians, and fitters, assigning tasks and ensuring proper skill development.
Safety Compliance:
Ensuring adherence to all safety protocols within the DRI plant, including regular inspections and safety training for the mechanical team.
Cost Control:
Monitoring mechanical maintenance costs and identifying areas for cost reduction within the DRI operation.
Important aspects of the role:
Technical Expertise:
Deep understanding of mechanical systems, including rotating machinery, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and material handling relevant to DRI production.
Process Knowledge:
Thorough understanding of the DRI process, including the chemical reactions, raw material requirements, and critical operating parameters.
Leadership Skills:
Ability to motivate and manage a team of mechanical personnel, fostering collaboration and problem-solving.
Communication Skills:
Effective communication with other departments like operations, electrical, and quality control to ensure smooth plant operations.
Qualification: Diploma / B.Tech in Mechanical.
Salary:7.0 to 10.0 LPA
