Stone Spheres- The Easy Way
มุมมอง 30Kปีที่แล้ว
The easiest way to make a stone sphere using a lathe, drill press, diamond hole saw, and rock tumbler. Takes 10 minutes to cut the rough sphere then you walk away for a couple days while it's in the tumbler. Way easier and cheaper than a sphere machine. Good job. It looks just like Pluto.
*examples 😂 The title sounds like you don't get a headstone.
Very, very good. Well done, sir.
That is way better than Chinese stone beads. Chinese: heat treat, bleach stones and fill all tiny cracks with epoxy resin glue. Chinese bead stones are all man altered to different color and appearance from stone's original state.

WOW very crafty
Nice nice !
How long you take for the processes?
Excellent and beautiful
Hello and greetings to you, a skilled craftsman, your teaching is very useful and interesting, and I enjoyed it. Sincerely, Parviz Bayat from Iran.
Amazing
Will this work with any of the harbor freight lathes?
Yeah, I actually mounted the harbor freight drill press to their lathe and it worked out just about perfectly.
Saw it done with a cordless drill and hands on.
Without watching the whole video, I'm guessing it's an oscillating blade, like a cast saw. Will tear the shit out of something hard, like plaster, fibreglass, or stone, but something soft, like flesh, it'll just vibrate. Edit: Okay, i was wrong, but i argue it was a good guess. I don't understand why the continuous rims don't cut you though. I mean a sharp knife doesn't need serrations to cut meat.
The diamonds aren't "sharp" like a knife and your skin is so soft that it just rides over the diamonds. It's like sandpaper, if I left my finger in the same place for like 30 seconds it would gradually grind through the layers of your skin. Your finger nail is hard enough that the diamond bites into it and it will grind your nail away in a matter of seconds though
Oh my god. I was watching another video where this woman was unboxing a bunch of stones, and some of them were mushroom-shaped and looked like they were crafted on a lathe of some discription. So happy to learn that it's an actual thing!
Very cool, beautiful!
Great video! I've been thinking I can't make spheres because I don't have the right tools, but you just listed everything I have at my disposal. Now to finally put those hole saws to a good use. Thanks!
Nice! How much money worth of sandpaper did you use?
Excellent idea! What’s the best way to attach the stone to the lathe? I have a wood lathe I’m trying to use for stone and it’s proving to be difficult to keep the stone in place.
I use a NOVA chuck, the key has been making a good notch/ gripping surface on the stone using the tile saw before you put it in the chuck though
Where would one acquire an unpowered spindle?
The links for everything are in the description on the video, they are available on Amazon
wow using your hand. This is def the cheapest
Dude you absolutely deserve the Nobel Prize for this shit
HOW is using a skill that is learned from others that have been doing this for a VERY LONG TIME worthy of a NOBEL PRIZE.. explain it to me. maybe your standards of amazement are a bit lower than most?!
I found a few absolutely stunning agate rocks in decorative landscape rocks. A few are multicolored like a rainbow. All had numerous layers and in gorgeous patterns. I collect both rocks and marbles to name a few things. These agates are stunning and I'd be afraid I'd ruin them. I wish I could find someone nearby who could do a good job. I'm in central Illinois.
I hate to tell you this, but granite polishes to mirror smoothness. But with a hardness of 7 or higher, you need either carborundum or diamond polishing media. I know this, as I used to work in a granite shop programming ad operating CNC stone shaping and polishing machines
don't spend thousands of dollars on equipment, just spend thousands of dollars on equipment instead. fucking brilliant.
Neat! Something else for my list of thing's I'll never get done...
bro last night i went onto a whole stone sphere machine rabithole, started looking up electric motors for this 3 grinder set up lmao ill never make a stone sphere fuck
😂 dreams for those retirement years..... I have buckets and buckets and buckets filled with my special things that I'm saving for my projects....
😮
How long did it take to make your cup?
You can do this for even less with just a hammer, a chisel, and a vice
Doubt it. Show me a decent vice for less than $60
You can do it with no tools. Just keep rubbing with your hands. It takes a while though.
Or just a river and some pocket lint
just will it into a sphere
How many rock statues have you made?
Where is the rest of the series?
Crap
Good stuff.
I like your style sir👍 👌 👏 🙏 🙌 💯
i worked in the stone industry, running various saws and cnc's for 16 years. I hope your wearing a mask and not a cheap paper mask either as the dust will eventually give you silicosis and kill you. having said that i like the results and its an interesting technique.
Damn what a mess
the cheapest way is to lick it
Very cool stuff great job looks great
Yeah but who wants to really Funk up their power tools with stone dust, sorry, this video is a major fail
When I was in Japan, I saw somebody making stone vases.
nice, can you do this with a 30ton rock now? without electricity and with only hand tools.
love this
Good job, that is really cool!
What kind of lathe do you use?
It's just a harbor freight lathe, but I adapted it to go slower. The slowest speed stock was like 600 rpm which was passable but uncomfortably fast.
thank you! love your content @@bisonhillstonecrafts5122
What did you use for glue ?
Subscribed, liked and comment. That's cool. I thought it would take so much more time. My next project with the grand kids.
Awesome job
