Stone Spheres- The Easy Way
มุมมอง 30Kปีที่แล้ว
The easiest way to make a stone sphere using a lathe, drill press, diamond hole saw, and rock tumbler. Takes 10 minutes to cut the rough sphere then you walk away for a couple days while it's in the tumbler. Way easier and cheaper than a sphere machine. That is way better than Chinese stone beads. Chinese: heat treat, bleach stones and fill all tiny cracks with epoxy resin glue. Chinese bead stones are all man altered to different color and appearance from stone's original state.

    Will this work with any of the harbor freight lathes?

      Yeah, I actually mounted the harbor freight drill press to their lathe and it worked out just about perfectly.

    Without watching the whole video, I'm guessing it's an oscillating blade, like a cast saw. Will tear the shit out of something hard, like plaster, fibreglass, or stone, but something soft, like flesh, it'll just vibrate. Edit: Okay, i was wrong, but i argue it was a good guess. I don't understand why the continuous rims don't cut you though. I mean a sharp knife doesn't need serrations to cut meat.

      @bisonhillstonecrafts5122 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The diamonds aren't "sharp" like a knife and your skin is so soft that it just rides over the diamonds. It's like sandpaper, if I left my finger in the same place for like 30 seconds it would gradually grind through the layers of your skin. Your finger nail is hard enough that the diamond bites into it and it will grind your nail away in a matter of seconds though

    Oh my god. I was watching another video where this woman was unboxing a bunch of stones, and some of them were mushroom-shaped and looked like they were crafted on a lathe of some discription. So happy to learn that it's an actual thing!

    Excellent idea! What’s the best way to attach the stone to the lathe? I have a wood lathe I’m trying to use for stone and it’s proving to be difficult to keep the stone in place.

      I use a NOVA chuck, the key has been making a good notch/ gripping surface on the stone using the tile saw before you put it in the chuck though

    I found a few absolutely stunning agate rocks in decorative landscape rocks. A few are multicolored like a rainbow. All had numerous layers and in gorgeous patterns. I collect both rocks and marbles to name a few things. These agates are stunning and I'd be afraid I'd ruin them. I wish I could find someone nearby who could do a good job. I'm in central Illinois.

    I hate to tell you this, but granite polishes to mirror smoothness. But with a hardness of 7 or higher, you need either carborundum or diamond polishing media. I know this, as I used to work in a granite shop programming ad operating CNC stone shaping and polishing machines
