RNAS Yeovilton Freedom of Yeovil Parade - 3rd June 2015
มุมมอง 1.1K9 ปีที่แล้ว
"Sailors from RNAS Yeovilton have marched through Yeovil to mark the base's freedom of the town. The parade also commemorates Yeovilton's 75th birthday and is in recognition of the 70th anniversary of the end of World War Two. Platoons from HMS Heron, led by the Queen's Colours and the Band of the Royal Marines, marched before Yeovil mayor Mike Lock. There was also a flypast representing all th...

What is the name of this group? And what song are they playing?
Lived on the camp in one of the bungalows on Implacable? Road, and went to Lee on Solent junior school for 3 years in the 1960's. For some reason, they changed the name of the camp to HMS Ariel for a spell, and then changed it back again. Me and my brother had the run of the place, we got to know a lot of the navy personnel in the hangars and down in the Gym/cinema hangar. Often played five or six a side football or badminton in there. My dad,who was with the gun crew, warned us to never go near the officers mess or the Wrens quarters, but we more or less went anywhere else on camp. Helping shovel coke in the boiler house, sitting inside the Hovercrafts near the back gate, getting shown round and sitting in the Gannets, trying to get stuff out of the machines in the NAAFI/cookhouse . Great days for two young lads.
Mr Hill. The manic Benjamin. Im sure Yakety Sax wont take you down for violating a bad copyright law. Well done you lot.
Well done.
Why did I hear a fake demolition siren but a tornado siren? Why did I hear Minecraft noises in the slo-mo?
It was a demolition siren not a tornado siren you heard before the demolition. As for the slow motion replay what did you expect sound wise?! Come on get real will you?!
The memories, I was there under training in 1984, pleasant place, enjoyed it. A WW2 uxb was found near Dunning hangar and we were all cleared away lol
The captain of that boat is drunk !
The speeded up view whilst quite comedic at first, does actually give quite a good feel for the place.
Wot no IKS !
Nice and smooth footage folk :)
Great video.
It's attracted a lot of attention by teenagers now they have started to show interest in exploring despite being caught numerous times before.
My mother served at/in HMS FERVENT as a WReN during WW2 doing "stuff" she used to say? I believe it was a base for MTB's for re fuelling and re armouring? at least that was the official line. hmmm. Dave
Spent 5 happy years there. BTG and ships co. SAR, PATS. Loved it. B81/11M. Went back early this year. Sad to see the place so run down.
operation stack was on where they stack the lorries when they shut the Port of Dover. normally from Maidstone to Dover, so you have to go the A20 instead. and when the snow hit the roads were blocked.
we got tierd of climbing up over the door to get in (its a long drop) so cut the padlock off one the lower doors and had our own key to the place for months, i think we may have locked some of the public in there that followed us in (by accident of course) and the lock got changed lol
That's amazing !
Seems ok going to Ashford but worse Dover bound.
This tunnel is not part of the ramsgate tunnels it is called 'HMS Fervent' it's a network of tunnels that run under the bandstand for ww2 as a gun storage.
pitching all the way down and coming down in a spiral d-h-h-hive
are u from EHS?
Good and bad memories of the place, based there 1979/ 80

Been Kicking ass on our behalf for many a year.
Good vid and a great choice in music. I did a similar video around the same time but just driving around deal.
It's better than my Belgium trip video
Great timelapse, I suggest that you speed up this sequence in order to eliminate some of the motion jerkeyness.
Thats not a Cap 232 its an S-bach 300
@theestever I have a feeling we all will know each from the 80's as only people from Dover would know about this, as it wasn't a tourist thing then :)
@gettingon I also played up there as a kid, but haven't been to Dover for 20 years either, it was actually quite scary up there...but ohhhh, the adventures we had :))
It's pilots like this who should be flying our Navy SEALS around. RPG's would be no problem. lol.
This was my first actual contact with the Brits (Though I had long been a bit of an Anglophile from my reading of History). I remember these buildings and the area! I'll not forget the warm hospitality and cameradarie of the Royal Navy JMA's/ Royal Marines stationed here that was shown to us American Sailors and Marines when we visited HMS Daedalus, Lee-On-Solent. I still have a Cap Tally stitched with "HMS Daedalus" on it.
@kelbag07 I remember a hole in the wall Fish-n-chips place near here. There was a Queue almost around the block in the evenings.
we went there for my school trip we had to be in school by 4.15 am and we went and this choclate shop and they had a speciel offer just for our school and we went to tyne cot cememntry and the menim gate and the in flanders feild museum and hill 62 and the trenches and we got to run around in there. and me and my friend got called prostitues by this french guys and apprantley we are worth €30 lol xx i'll never forget my day here i loved it
@DangRockets - It was home to the Fleet Air Arm in WW2
Anyone know what they would have been doing here during the second world war? My grandad was based here for 6 months and later a year during the war after some time on a ship. He was only a (temp) leading seaman, so nothing too flash.
Last Rail Tour Tangmere did as of this date was December 2009 due to (boiler?) problems.
Whot ?????+
I was the last officlal department head to work there on closing day.
@SheepJumpFish The Chinook is old, so is the Huey, but both of 'em do a great job! I'm not offencing you ;)
