Hello there, I actually have an unopened (still in plastic) set just like this! My uncle worked for SC Johnson and gave us a set. We never opened it because we had a different train we always used. We were planning to set it up back when we moved long ago. Do you know anyone that might want it for a very reasonable price?

This was my "dip my toe in the hobby" first set... use it every year for going around under the Christmas tree... still running just fine.

Hello. Thank you for sharing the video. I think of my own childhood Christmas present, many years ago. This layout looks like the perfect track. It even has the turntable. I am quite jealous and hope you are still using it. I would be a little cheeky and suggest you never part with it. Looks like it has everything and will almost fit in the back pocket. Ready to share with friends and the family. Or portable in the back of a van at least. Thank you again for sharing the video. I could quite happily watch this layout being used in every which way, for hours. Some times on mute and some times with your important local info on. I have the same layout with the Atlas controller and selectors and I recently added DCC with a Digitrax Zepher. I didn’t need an additional DPDT switch. I run DC on Cab A and DCC on Cab B on the selectors. I keep both DC power packs on for switches, turntable, and lights like you mentioned.

You could add a straight siding on the upper part of the layout with 2 #4 switches and that would give you two trains running and one parked on the siding.

Can I ask what radius that curve is I am looking at buying one of these engines and I have the tightest curve possible for ho scale and wanted to make sure this engine could run on my layout.

I used to have that flat car which came in green with the 3 large pipe sections. Back in the 1960s.

It’s Not Easy Picking The Right Plan there’s So Many Plans To Go By For Me A Have 2 4x8’s in A L Shape And That Is Sharp.

I've only used one track plan in my life. All the rest have been free style. My first was an N scale layout I built in an old chicken house that was no longer in use. I took it from 101 track plans for modeler railroaders authored by Linn Westcott. Year 1992, track plan number 80 for large. The chicken house was 20 by 50, but due to a wall in the back there was only 38 feet to work with. While I had never built a layout, and this was my first, I used 4 by 8 sheets of plywood mounted on sawhorses. Before I gave it up for HO scale I had over 60 engines and 400 cars. Since I wanted to build something better and stronger I sold all my engines except a steamer and 10 cars. All the cars went for a dollar a piece. Some of those cannot be bought today since they are no longer in production. Sadly, the chicken house's roof caved in one winter due to heavy snow and my father and I threw the layout on the burn pile. Now it is just a memory, but I learned from that one to my 8th layout now made on open grid lumber which is easy to make.

I saw this many years ago and was impressed by its size and workmanship. My Uncle was on a troop train that stopped at Dennison on his way to Fort Dix, NJ, during WWII. The soldiers were fed sandwiches and hot coffee. Thanks for the reminder. Nice music.

I agree, too much separately applied detail is not needed and it is just subject to breakage.

Try changing the first left hand turnout of the ladder to a right hand. That track could go to an industry or depot or something.

The tabletop can't just be turned on its side and carried down the stairs? I've lived in ten different houses and moved full sheets of plywood down two landing stairs, spiral staircases, and attic entrances. Maybe convert one of the plans you like to a modular system?

I recently acquired one, but it says 7635Q CHEFBOYRDEE TRAIN LOAD OF VALUES. TYCO EXCLUSIVE TRAIN SET. And is missing the billboard and sticker. The set was opened so someone could have removed and sold it.

you are taking a HUGE risk running ANY DCC Sound Equipped loco (diesel or steam)ANY BRAND on a DC ONLY LAYOUT!! TRUST ME … THERE’S NO CV “DCC/DC BOTH) setting as you suggested there is. I HAD a brand new BACHMANN “BNSF” DCC SOUND EQUIPPED diesel put on an MRC 1370 DC CONTROLLER layout .. within 30-60 seconds .. the Decoder burned out!
