No cops? Well some cops. Most just wanted to shake you down for a six-pack (especially if you had some Heinekens.) Others just took care of business on the spot. I remember once driving down the park and I took a guys car door off by accident, literally, he swung it open and I nailed it going 30 mph. We got out of our car, I actually knew the guy, there was gonna be a big fight, a bunch of us on each side, and none of us were pussies and we were all fucked up. Cop was driving by, got out and said "You (pointing to me) owe him some money. You (pointing to the the guys whose door I had smashed) shut the fuck up and calm down. I'll be driving back around in 10 minutes and this better be over or your all going to the precinct." Which we knew wasn't about getting arrested, but getting taken down to the basement of the 114th and getting smacked around. Everyone settled up and went on their way. Another night at the park.
Back when Astoria was affordable and full of, well, ASTORIANS born and raised. Place sickens me now. Btw, I was living out in Whitestone so Franny Lew was our spot but every once in a while we'd make the trip in to see what was hapenning in Astoria. Great time to be young.
Lol, I was a teen back then but now looking back in my 50s damn that must have been annoying for local area homeowners near Prep and the diner. I was always happy to live in deep Whitestone away from the blvd where it was quiet.
Anybody notice no Police. Those were the days.I grew up with these people. Astoria Park separated the shore from 19th Street where the houses were so nobody was really bothered."The Shore"as we called it.I Im in sixties now and would love to do a night swim at Astoria Pool one more time. They finally fixed it properly it was closed last year I hope it opens this year.Where is Barbara Ann (the car)and Spiro these days. I am still in Astoria rarely see anyone anymore.Shore Blvd reunion is in order. Probably going to see a few people on Father's Day if they have the car show this year.
Grew up on "Shore". Astoria Pool Night Swims.Cops never hassled us.Nobody complained. The houses were over the Astoria Park Hill on 19 st.the noise couldn't be heard so we were good. The Ditmars Blvd houses on the left and Astoria Park South houses on the right when we were chilling by the water on Shore Blvd. Our neighbors liked that we weren't hanging on the corners or in front of their houses on their stoops.
It was so fun and beautiful back then, now unfortunately Astoria park is ruin, 😕. You got punks riding their dirt bike all over the parks , drunks and pot heads everywhere, people throwing garbage everywhere. What a shame.
That was 46 st and 19 th ave. I was the fastest car on that street. My 67 red GTO. And my other friends yellow 340 duster. And 69 442. We all lived in that area good old days respectfully. Pete S.
We were hanging out on the shore in 82 if you were born in 1982 by time you were old enough we were Adults. We used to swim in Astoria Pool at Night in the summer cops never bothered us our friend was the "Parkee" we walked through an open gate. The shore never closed. No body complained. A certain local politician's son try to play Big Boss Man and they put him in a garbage can. They put poles to block the street of so we couldn't drive through we ripped them out😂
We were doin the same shit over the bridge in Throgs Neck on the Whitestone service rd. I remember doing full Vericom runs with my 26x8.5 slicks over and over like it wasn't illegal lmfao. Back then going 12.70 with a daily driver was fast
Ralph's Nova at "The Dumps" heating the tires. Good times! I saw Jeff "Bad to the Bone" Nova in a clip at Astoria Park. I had a 66 Red.Chevelle Big Block at the time. I'm retired now, no more 28th Road. I'm cruising in my 48' Chop Top Convertible Mercury here in Windermere Florida. I'm sure Spiro is still not wearing a shirt!
Hey guys; awesome video. I’m a lifelong Astorian. I LOVE this video. I’m making an Astoria based album and wrote a song called Astoria Park. We used a couple of short scenes from your video; I hope that’s cool with you guys. The project is called MIAstoria. Thanks for this masterpiece. It’s AWESOME!!!!!!!!!✌️
I had a blue 1968 Dodge Dart with a 426 hemi, hard to beat. A few other fast cars I remember was a 1970 red Chevelle SS with a tunnel ram, and a Olds 442, white.... Regulars on Franny Lew. Some fast cars hung around Scaturros Market in the parking lot after closing.. And who can forget B&R Performance on Franny Lew...
Does anyone have picture of crystal gardens? It was on 24th ave from 27th st through 29th street. I have yet to see an image of it. I’ve heard about it my entire life (46 years) of how beautiful it was. If anyone has an image, please contact me.

Now Astoria is gay and full of white liberal transients from Ohio who think they are New Yorkers.
