African Brothers Safari
South Africa
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 30 ส.ค. 2013
A professional hunter and South African outfitter with a passion for the outdoors. African Brothers Safari prides itself on high ethics, conservation, and family values. Our name stems from both mine and my twin brother's love for the outdoors and hunting the beautiful African landscape. Those who have hunted with us know that they leave a member of the African Brothers Safari family. The idea of brother extends to all as our main tracker has grown up with us and has been a pivotal part of our journey in the bush.
As a boy, I learnt a lot about hunting from my father. This instilled a passion in me for the veld and wildlife resulting in me making a career out of it. I hope to take you along with me on my journey through Africa whilst I share my knowledge of the beautiful African bush and her animals, with you all.

Good story. The No. 4 is a strong action and rimmed cases have stronger bases than rimless cases, so I am not surprised. I have a couple of friends who use .303 and .303 Epps cartridges for hunting and target shooting. There is a Hornady Interbond projectile for the .303 which they have used successfully BUT I have never seen it listed by Hornady. I suspect that it was developed for an Argentine ammo maker for use in 7.65 Mauser hunting cartridges and that my friends managed to get some production overrun projectiles. Cheers from NZ🇳🇿.
Just wondering how if you’re zeroed at 200 yards, how can you hit a wildebeest at 500 yards if your holding middle of shoulder. My calculator is telling me that it would be dropping 50” or so.
@@3000fpe not if you shooting 125grain bullet the load at the range only dropped between 4 and 6 inches on a 400 yards on a pice of steel. Kill zone on a wildebeest 30 x 30 so all he had to do was aim Center shoulder and he would be on the money
@ ok. My iSnipe calculator must not add up right then. It’s telling me that A .303 bullet of 125grains travelling 3000fps would need to be 6.4” high at 100y with a 375y zero to only drop 4-6” at 400y. And still have 24” of drop at 500y… requiring a very high shoulder/spine holdover to still hit low vitals. Had a few .303s and regretted selling one but shoulda thrown one in the lake first day I had it. Fantastic rifles. Killed a few critters with em years ago. If I was set up to reload, I’d be very eager to try loading light bullets.
@ it doesn’t make sense what I’m getting I didn’t think it would shoot so well and couldn’t believe the way it was shooting on paper. Cause you would expect it to fall out the sky at that distance being a 303 and it didn’t. And we shot it multiple times and the result was the same over and over again. I’m definitely gonna have to do a video for everyone cause I have had a lot of people interest in my old 303. The 125grains definitely don’t like the wind at all so you alway have to keep that in mind. Sometimes the maths just doesn’t add up
@ that is interesting. I agree that sometimes math doesn’t add up. Theoretical knowledge and playing with numbers only gets one so far… real world results can be a lot different. Barrel harmonics are like women. Some behave predictably and “normally”, but many can’t be figured out no matter which angle you look at or what kind of reasoning you use. Had an 18” barreled 3006 that grouped 220g bullets 3” higher at 100y than 180 grainers without touching the scope. And even when zeroed at 100y, they were flying way flatter than advertised, from test barrels that were 24” long
THAT is a beautiful Cape!!! Congrats Brother!!!
I see you have a white light on. Does it still work well for the pigs? I use a red filter over mine. But my lights keep getting stolen so I am saving fir Night Vission rather.
@@shaun803 yes we have solar lights over our baits the bush pigs get use to them very quickly 👍🏻
@africanbrotherssafari yes I also used them. Thos that come on with movement. Works wel. Will try the white light again.

30-06 is the GOAT. I'm from Pennsylvania where there are Forrest and mountain. The Remington 760 30-06 to me is the best rifle for yhe terrain. New sub here and bring on the hunts. P.S. check into the new member of the 30-06 family. .400-06 straight wall cartridge if no ones heard of it yet.
Ugliest bolt rifle ever built... 🙄
I'm in North East Ontario, I have a 1942 Longbranch 303, made at the Longbranch armouries in Mississauga Ontario. Stay safe
As to your closing comments, yes, stories of rifles and how you've used them/developed loads is both interesting and helpful for lots of shooters. Enfields were cheap here until just a few years ago, and their potential was underappreciated, but I think now that people are restoring them or upgrading their sporters that we we'll see more of what they can do.
What an interesting subject, and so familiar to my 45+ years of center fire big game hunting rifles experience. In 1982 I shot my first big game animal with a .303, and 185gr. Factory. Close range big holes, I was young and wanted to learn about rifle hunting. Hunted with different rifles, and calibres every year and filled many tags and keep changing rifles/calibers. One of the guys in my group who coached me since 1982 enjoys the .303, and had one similar to yours with the same kind of evolving story. Stock and hand loads were an ongoing project over many years, has taken animals with every weight/type of bullet, and has settled on the 140gr. Fast .303, with a custom stock, and machine work . a 25 year work in progress(a hunt camp ongoing laugh). My preference is the 130 gr. Nosier .270 at3000 fps.. Thats the perfect mix for my big game hunting, it’s very accurate except for wind deflection on long shots. Your story struck a chord Becuase after many years of studying and shooting, for ME it’s the load I mentioned, however it’s very similar to my associates preferred which is 140gr. .303 fast hand loads. Has to be a good quality big game bonded bullet, or they seperate(explode). (Ps. For very large animals in wide open spaces (it’s always very windy) I think the .300 win mag or .300wsm is preferred just because of high winds.)
I have three of those 303 ,and 5 in total , Northen Ont ,Canada , for moose and black bears , great bolt action riffles ,cheap and easy to get ammo for .

G8 mate. I have an unsporterised Mk4 No1. Can you please tell me the name of the scope mount and whether it is a " No Drill-Tap mount "? Thanks for your attention and help.
@@johnbonnici8048 the bace plate and rings are made by lynx the bace is skewed Down . The scope is a 3-9x39 lynx scope
@@africanbrotherssafari Thanks
You should take a look at the no drill-tap mount by Bad Ace Tactical. I just ordered one for a sporter that I'm restoring, as it's gotten good reviews and is reasonably priced.
@@Thermopylae2007 Thanks. That was exactly what I was looking at but they don't ship to my place of residence. Bad Ace suggested a couple of places in Europe where I can purchase BUT they either did not reply or they didn't give me a clear and definite answer to my questions. Probably will have to look somewhere outside the EU.
@johnbonnici8048 They are low on stock at the moment, and we're in the midst of a postal strike, but if you cannot find a source in the next couple of weeks let me know, and perhaps I can help you out.
My first rifle was a junk sporter no3 lee from 1917 I got for 100$.I cleaned much copper fouling out of the barrel after buying it and mounted a scope and synthetic stock...that rifle shot sub moa groups at 100 yards all day...great rifles 4 sure
I love hearing about people restoring those old rifles.
Thats a unicorn of a 303 Bro. You are a lucky man .🇦🇺
Thanks mate really appreciate the comment
Great rifle, I have one as well but still original
I loaded 125 gr Nosler acubond bullets in a 30’06 it shot tight groups at 3,150 fps. Latter on TH-cam I saw a man from Finland shooting these same bullets in a 300 Win Mag. He took a Moose and Carabu. I have also loaded Barnes 110 gr TTSX bullets in my .270 Win. A Ruger M77. No recoil tight groups.
Gosh you were lucky you didn't harm that rifle too much with those dodgy reloads. I will never use someone else's reloads unless I know them VERY well. Factory ammo here in NZ is very expensive so it always roll my own. The old Lee Enfield is often under estimated.... I have a sporter I made from a barrelled action that I had, a No1... With modern powders I get 2700fps with 150gr bullets (hornady) at mild pressures. For deer sized game the 123gr .311" bullets made for the 7.62 x 39 round work really well too (Hornady again), and of course get close to 3000 fps....Sierras are excellent too. I have found Hogdon BlC2 gives highest velocities with lowest pressures... about 47gr which is below max. I made the stock for this rifle almost straight line, the original has way too much drop, and with an aperture sight, windage adjustable, and ramp front sight elevation adjustable. It's light and handy, holds 10 rounds of course and more than accurate enough to any range that I'd shoot a deer sized animal. I did replace the barrel with a better one recently which helped quite a bit. Overall the rifle cost me almost nothing apart from some time.... Yes I am a gun smith. So glad you got your No4 working right....They are cool rifles and yours is a fine example of what you can do with one.. 🙂
@@KathrynLiz1 thanks for the message bud really appreciate it 💪🏻 the old girl is definitely due for some tlc a good strip down and a cerkot and maybe a new silencer soon
Can you provide a reference for that 123gr load? I've got the Hornady bullets and BLC-2.
@@Thermopylae2007 No reference apart from the Hogdon and other manuals and my own experience from many years ago... My load for 150gr was 47gr of BlC2 which is two grains under max and gives 2700fps or so.....I cannot remember my 123gr load but my old manual for a max 130gr load says 50gr of BlC2 for 2900fps, and I do know that that particular manual is quite conservative in its loads which are often a grain or two lighter than the Hogdon manuals. On that basis the lighter 123gr Hornady bullets would be safe at 50gr and should yield about 2950fps and if you wanted to push it, perhaps 51gr for closer to 3000, although being a fairly conservative reloader I'd stick with 50gr and see what my chronograph said.... 2900+ will be very effective and there's no point in pushing pressures for another 50fps, especially in a Lee action as it's very hard on your brass. BlC2 gives consistently lower pressures for a given result compared to any other powders that I have encountered. If using a Lee action, I'd recommend only neck sizing and when extraction or chambering starts to get slightly sticky, just barely bump the shoulder in the resizing die to ease it. This way you avoid head separations and your brass should go quite a few loads.
Love the video. Thank you! My rifle loves the Hornady SST's but they quit making them. I might need to try these 125's!
Thanks bud glad you enjoyed it 💪🏻

I absolutely love the No.4 mk1 and mk2. Took many deer with both in the eastern US.
Great story and great work! That’s an outstanding handload with that type of performance and velocity. I have a enfield rifle as well that I’ve been loading for I will need to try the 125gr sierras.
Yep the 125 grain Sierra’s are a great choice! 💪🏻
I have always enjoyed a good sporterized military rifle with a story behind it. I assume you reload .311 bullets? I seen loads listed using .308 bullets. I cant see those doing your accuracy any favors. If i remember right, dosent 762x39 use .311 also? Nice video, thanks for the intertainment.
I have learned from a person that did this was the Lee Enfield action can be barreled in 444 Marlin. Now that is just sweat a Lee Enfield barreled for 444 Marlin to get better accuracy

Wayne and Spouse, I enjoyed your podcast. I have listened to awesome scenarios that has happened with PH's on their various hunts and surely it is like you Guys explained. It is not about the hunt itself. One scenario of an old/elder foreign hunter being in a wheelchair and still wanted to do his last hunt. The PH had to secure/fastened/positioned his wheelchair on the Cruiser Truck as to be able for him to do his hunting of an animal. The Elder hunter did a successful hunt and ethical shot with utmost joy of being organized for him to achieve. PH's on several instances have to think out of the box to accommodate special needs hunters to make a dream come true. I salute you and other fellow PH's and your team/s for going the extra mile that greenies and anti-hunting persons don't see and know of what you guys are doing. Keep well🤝✍

Wow!!! What a great 30-06 journey and excellent outcome after some technical issues. Thank you for sharing. Would you recommend to Ackley Improve a standard 30-06 to get the gains you got? The titanium ceracote looks very good. When not informing the next person, one would think it is made of stainless steel.
@@wimpieprinsloo5042 yes think the gains are worth Ackley improving the 30.06 as now I can shoot the higher bc bullets and weight and get ballistics similar or the same as a 300win. But if you don’t reload I would say stick to standard 30.06 cause ammo is the issue.
