Hello! I'm a History and Korean Studies double major who believes Korean history and culture are extremely interesting and important to know. I'm starting this channel to remember my travels, dabble with producing/editing, use my degree in some way, and "try" to educate and spread Korean history and culture! This is my first time video producing and editing so please be kind! Thank you~

Mungyeong Cultural Trip~│ Ceramics, Omija, Saejae Film Set
Back in November, I went on a cultural field trip with other EPIK and Fulbright teachers to Mungyeong, Gyeongbuk! I was a history and Korean studies major in college so I had SOO much fun and was nerding out the whole time!!🤓✌️
A huge thank you to the Gyeongsangbuk-do Office of Education for organizing such a fun trip~ :)
Locations:
📍 Mungyeong Ceramics Museum (문경도자기박물관)
⠀⠀⠀⠀We took a pottery class and made our own bowls! The bowls were later fired in the traditional kiln and delivered to our schools in January!
⠀⠀⠀-Mungyeong is known for making good quality ceramics for nobles and mostly for the lower class. They are also known for their unique dot pattern that can be seen on broken fragments of pottery in the video!
📍 Mungyeong Restaurant (문경식당)
⠀⠀⠀-Lunch was a huge spread of banchan and dishes using regional specialties like grilled deodeok (a root like ginseng/bellflower roots?) and omija-marinated pork belly! Everything was so good~🤤
📍 Omija Theme Park (문경오미자테마공원)
⠀⠀⠀-We were able to choose between making omija cupcakes or omija syrup. I chose the cupcake-making class because I already had fruit syrup at home lol While we waited for the cupcakes to bake, we were able to look at different exhibits in the theme park and check out the gift shop! (The omija makgeolli was a popular purchase LOL 👀)
⠀⠀⠀-Omija (five flavors) is a berry traditionally used to make tea. Omija syrup can also be added to marinades to sweeten and tenderize meat~ Omija is known for its detoxing effects, helping to lower blood pressure and strengthen the kidneys!
📍 Mungyeong Saejae Provincial Park (문경새재)
⠀⠀⠀-The final destination of the day! It felt like I was transported back in time~ I wish I had more time to explore cause this place is pretty big! They were also filming a movie (올빼미) so some areas were also closed off.
⠀⠀⠀-Mungyeong Saejae is an open filming set for historical dramas and movies. Therefore, from what I was told, none of the buildings have any historical value even though they might seem like it. Some famous dramas filmed here were: The Moon Embracing the Sun (2012), Hwarang (2016), Hotel Del Luna (2019), Kingdom (2020), and The King's Affection (2021)!!✨

Fried Apple Menbosha Toast | Delicious Rendezvous/맛남의광장 사과 멘보샤 만들기!
มุมมอง 9554 ปีที่แล้ว
My sister went apple picking and some apples were bruised so I thought of trying Delicious Rendezvous' apple menbosha from episode 3! Menbosha is a Chinese fried shrimp toast dish and Chef Paik Jong-won made a sweet version with apple jam! One of the main goals of the show is to use ingredients that aren’t considered “store quality” because of its “weird” shape or bruising. Some might not buy b...

How to Make Paper Carnations for Parent's Day!

How to Make Paper Carnations for Parent's Day!
Bro I was born in Korea but moved to Canada when I was 6. Anytime someone finds out I'm Korean they tell me about how great it must be to be Korean because it's a magical utopia full of beautiful perfect k-pop people there. Me? All I remember about Korea was all the adults would lose their filter while chain-smoking cigarettes and downing booze whenever someone brought the Go-Stop cards out LOL
Can this be played as a 2-player game?😊
Yes
I used to play this a lot with my mom as a kid :( really miss it, forgot a lot of the rules and happy to find it again..
Seems so difficult but so easy. THANKS
Finally a Gostop tutorial that makes sense, thanks!
Thank you for sharing you thoughts and the great recommendation :)
Pictures really helped!! Thanks!!
Thx for sharing!!!!
Played this all the time...I haven't played a game in years though. But I so want to play it right now...I better call some players, grab some Soju and Ika...and have a game.
It may be illegal but gambling is quite common with this game.
Unfortunately, it still is common..but it is also common to just play for fun with family during the holidays!
Thanks. This game looks as much fun as Dominoes, that I learned to play in the country of my birth, Jamaica. Good luck in sharing what is important in your culture. I'm Jamaican - Canadian. I love learning about other cultures and will look forward to seeing what you upload to your channel. I love cooking. I enjoy the various side dishes that are served at Korean meals. The first dish I learned to make is Kimchi, the recipes without fish products as I'm alergic. Thanks again for this video.
This video is missing at least half of ruleset that's missing from the entire go-stop rules, and some rule/infos are just way too simplified that it doesn't explain as a whole. As a brief rundown, this is great video but I think there should be like few more things to be covered
This is how my mom taught me but she also didn't play in yearss so that might explain the missing rules😅 Hopefully I can learn all the rules from a master go-stop player and make a new video!
Thank you for your video! 0:51 Goguryeo(an ancient Korean Kingdom) was nomadic people in Manchuria. They wore a two-piece outfit(jeogori and baji) to make it easier to horse ride. Korean people are also close to Mongolia. Mongols ruled China. Mongolians liked Goryeo(old Korea) sheep. So Goryeo hanbok was popular in the Yuan Dynasty to early Ming Dynasty.
omg i need to play it to fully understand :/
It takes a few practice rounds to understand but once you do, it's so much fun!
Great video. This makes much more sense to me now! Thank you!
Pattern👀?✨
Watching 인사이더 now and had to figure out the game 😂 thanks
This was nice and good! Great try and cute comments! Liked it a lot!
Im Still confused 🤦🏽♀️😅😅
Haha you'll get the hang of it while actually playing it! Just go through it slowly and play lots of practice rounds lol
Is the cinnamon optional?
Totally optional!
My wife and I slightly reworked the rules so it plays strictly as a two player game, and we had a 4 month long tournament on our trip home after living in Korea for a few years....but forgot how to play completely. Thanks for the vid. Going to dust off our old deck.
Sounds like you just reinvented koi-koi
Do you have the pattern for this?
Unfortunately I don't >< Made a rough pattern based on a top I already owned
Hi, I just found your channel and I am glad that you share your adventure of finding your cultural heritage. It is so interesting. I live in Poland and I enjoy watching videos of some traditional aspects of Korea. I enjoy Korean cuisine, Korean green tea and a baduk game. Looking forward for your next videos.
This is so awesome and helpful, I got a jeogori online that didn’t fit, going to use this and try to make one too!
Looks great
OMG I used to play like all the time with my grandma and sister. I haven't played in a while though. Forgot a lot if it. Thx for the video.
Good Thank you for making this Vid
This is actually very helpful, thank you!
This is so cute!!!
Hi! I'm a totally newb at this game(but I thoroughly understand the Hanafuda/Hwatu deck due to getting into them recently). I have a few questions about the game: 1) When you get the three ribbon triplets(poetry slips, blue slips, and reds w/o the Willow ribbon), does the rule for "5 ribbons=1 pt + 1 pt for every other ribbon card" still apply even with the triplets? E.g. you have 2 poetry slips, three of the red poetry slips= 3 pts + 1 pt? In other words, having five cards in total with one of the "ribbon triplets" gets you the two combined hands' point value? (a similar point of ambiguity comes from the "three birds"/five animal cards.) 2) Is it possible to play this game with more than three players? I understand in other Hanafuda/Hwatu games(such as Sakura), there are variations for how many cards are set on the field and in each player's hand. See: www.instructables.com/How-to-Play-Go-Stop/ 3) @ 4:30, there is a note about "Bombs," i.e. matching the "2 or 3 cards of a suit in hand" to pick up the remaining card. HOWEVER, on the next slide(regarding "put[ting] 1 card from [one's] hand down to make [a] pair[...] [following picking up a matching card to the suit{of the already matched pair from your hand to the flop/table?}, the player's whom dealt the hand] CAN'T TAKE ANY OF THE 3 CARDS[...] [THE FIRST] PERSON TO PLAY [THE] LAST CARD OF SUIT TAKES IT ALL. -- is there some variant rule where the person who puts down the remaining card to pick up the "unmatched suit's quadruplet" then gets to take TWO Chaff/Junk/Pi cards from their opponent(s)? Thank you for laying out the basic rules for Go-Stop! Any response is appreciated. :)
1) Hopefully these examples will make it a little easier to understand! Ex 1: You have 5 ribbon cards (3 blue poems, 1 red poem, and 1 no poem). The blue poem set = 3 pts. Having 5 ribbons cards = 1 pt. -> 3 pts (set) + 1 pt (5 cards) = TOTAL 4 pts. Ex 2: You have 6 cards (3 blue poems, 3 red poems, and 1 no poem). You have 2 sets so 2 sets X 3 pts = 6 pts. 5 cards = 1 pt and each additional card after 5 is 1 pt. So you get 1 pt for the 6th and 1 pt for the 7th card. -> 6 pts (2 sets) + 1 pt (having 5 cards) + 1 pt (6th card) + 1 pt (7th card) = TOTAL 9 pts 2) Go-Stop is usually played with 2-3 players but I heard that there is a variation where you can play with 4 players! I only know the 3-player version though... 3) “Bombs” are when you have 2 cards (or 3) of the same suit in your hand and the last 2 cards (or last 1) of the set are on the floor. The next slide is if you made a pair but the card you picked is of the same suit. You 똥 샀어/pooped(?) your turn so you can’t take anything. The person who has the last card and completes the set takes all 4 cards and yes, according to my mom, there is a rule where they can also get 1 Junk card from each player. Hopefully, I was able to explain everything properly but I’m also a novice and my mom who taught me is also rusty so she doesn’t remember all the rules! Thanks for watching~^^
Shangri La in its core did something so special by weaving contemporary and traditional sounds. It kicked off/popularised it in kpop performances
