Evening Walk in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area
The Colorado River-fed Lake Mohave glimmers in the distance, a blue-green ribbon against the earth-toned palette of the desert. I've watched this landscape transform over generations-not just through the lens of my camera, but through a lifetime of intimate understanding. Each step I take today is a conversation with the land, a dialogue that began long before my first memories of ranch life.
My backpack, lighter now than in years past but still carrying essentials-water, first aid, a few energy bars, and of course, my camera-sits comfortably against my back. The weight is familiar, a companion on countless journeys. Today's hike to the abandoned Old Wagon Trail Ranch isn't just a physical journey, but a pilgrimage through memory and history.

Old Wagon Trail Ranch Trail

The Mojave Desert stretches out before me like a sun-bleached canvas, punctuated by towering cacti, scattered creosote bushes, and the kind of wild, rugged beauty that speaks to the soul. From our home in the Arizona Mojave, just a stone’s throw from the Colorado River and Lake Mohave, there’s a four-mile round-trip hike Paulette and I never tire of-a journey to the abandoned Old Wagon Trail Ra...
A Full Moon UTV Ride Through the Black Mountain Foothills

There's something about the desert at sunset that stirs the soul of an old timer like myself. After decades of roaming the American Southwest, capturing its wild beauty through my lens, these moments still take my breath away. Tonight was one of those evenings that demanded to be experienced, not just witnessed from my porch at High Chaparral. As I watched the sun playing hide and seek with a t...
Where Desert Meets Water

There's something magical about Lake Mohave in early November. The scorching summer heat has finally released its grip on the Mohave Desert, giving way to those perfect autumn afternoons where the desert air sits at a comfortable 74 degrees, while the crystal-clear waters below hold steady at a cool 60. It's during these moments, when the seasons are in transition, that I find myself most drawn...
Lake Mohave October Boating

There's something magical about these late October days on Lake Mohave, when the desert air still holds onto summer's warmth while the water below takes on that crisp autumn chill. After sixty-plus years of exploring the American Southwest's wild places, from the highest alpine meadows to the lowest desert valleys, We've found few places that capture the raw beauty of this land quite like Lake ...
Hoof Prints in the Mohave Desert

There's something about the early morning light in the Mohave Desert that stops me in my tracks every single time. Even after sixty-plus years of wandering these landscapes, that first golden ray catching the creosote bushes still makes my old heart skip a beat. This morning was no different as I shouldered my weathered daypack, adjusted my camera gear, and set out from our modest desert home t...
Fall in Santa Fe

There’s something magical about the fall in Santa Fe. As an old rancher who’s spent a lifetime in the mountains and valleys of the American Southwest, I’ve come to appreciate the slow and steady rhythm of the changing seasons. Fall in Santa Fe is more than just a shift in temperature or the calendar turning a page. It’s a feeling, a process that unfolds in the air, in the trees, and across the ...
Exploring the Legacy of the Tsankawi People
มุมมอง 2382 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Tsankawi people were a part of the Ancestral Puebloan culture, whose story is written into the cliffs, mesas, and deep canyons of northern New Mexico. I’ve walked their land, stepped into the worn trails carved into the rock by countless footsteps, and stood in awe of the remnants of a world long gone yet so very alive in the landscape. Today, I want to take you on a journey back in time to...
September Stroll Around Santa Fe Plaza

Late September Magic There’s a certain kind of light in Santa Fe that draws you outside in late September, like a gentle call from the heavens to stretch your legs and soak in the beauty. That afternoon, with the sun high and the clouds white and puffy, it felt like the perfect time for a walk. My starting point? The Santa Fe River Walk, where the gurgling of water and the rustling leaves set a...

A Journey to the Top of the Santa Fe Express There’s something special about autumn in the high country of northern New Mexico. Paulette and I, eager to stretch our legs and soak in the beauty of the changing season, decided to head up to Ski Santa Fe for a day hike on September 29, 2024. The aspens had just begun their annual transformation, lighting up the mountainside in hues of gold, yellow...

There’s something special about New Mexico hiking trails that keeps calling me back. With rugged landscapes, forested mountains, and the kind of solitude that wraps around you like a warm blanket, each trail offers a unique experience. This September, I set out to hike the Hamilton Mesa Trail #249, which runs high above Jack's Creek and follows the Pecos River. The trail begins near the Jack’s ...

With little time to spare, we quickly transitioned to our next adventure - the Tsimshian Totem Park Tour. Our guide for this tour was a local native carver, whose passion for his craft and culture was immediately evident. He welcomed us with a warm smile and began to share his knowledge of totem pole carving, a tradition that has been passed down through generations of his family. The demonstra...

The sun was just beginning to rise when I woke up on Day 6 of our Alaska cruise aboard the Norwegian Encore. I quietly stepped out onto our balcony, trying not to wake Paulette, and was greeted by the first clear skies we'd seen in nearly a week. Ketchikan, "The Salmon Capital of the World," lay before us, bathed in the soft, golden light of early morning. We arrived at the port at 7:00 am, and...

Man, you talk too much.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed. I certainly enjoyed visiting your beautiful state :-) Good fishing.
Cool video! Just subscribed to your channel.
This video captures the essence of Taos. We used to live in Angel Fire, and would drive to Taos on Thursdays during the summer just to watch the dancers. They dance like nobody's watching!
If you've never been to Taos Plaza Live you must make it a priority! It's the greatest people watching even in the US :-)
Love this channel :-) Looking forward to fly fishing videos.
