Demonstration with a Catalytic Combustor
มุมมอง 87K8 ปีที่แล้ว
Catalysis is used in other catalytic converters, such as automobiles, but woodstoves are virtually unique in benefiting from the heat that takes place from the catalytic reaction. Combustors are engineered to maximize heat, and emissions from the chimney become invisible carbon dioxide and white water vapor.

      The thermometer has an active zone. The active zone starts at 550 degrees f. As long as the thermometer stays in the active zone the stove is giving out heat.

      Depending on the model. The run time on low can be from 20 to 40 hours. This when the stove is in a low fire setting. A normal heating time is between 12 hours and 22hours when the stove is in a medium heat setting.

    We have a Blaze King catalytic wood stove on the lowest level of the house, and a Hitzer anthracite coal stove out in the pantry/reloading/ham radio/feed building. Both are extremely good at producing heat. Anthracite is getting extremely expensive, so I might have to start burning cheap local sub-bituminous coal. Our local wood for the Blaze King is lousy old pine. I did haul a couple cords of hardwood from Wisconsin, but I burn that sparingly.

    4-7 hours ? I just ran my 1979 blaze king bought by my father new the other day for 23 hours on less than 3/4 load of wood. The stove it replaced , a Fisher papa bear routinely got from 8 '15 hours depending of weather. Both stoves maintain very consistent, even heat throughout my homes. After 46 years of doing this I've learned a bit. I've also messed with more stoves than most will ever think about. Catalytic stoves may be OK in certain situations and for certain people buy they are NOT the be all end all . I burn 24/7 all season and have for all the years mentioned with the last 25 atleast being my sole source of heat. While I agree on blaze king you can keep your catatalytic in my honest opinion.

      Your wrong. Catalytic Converters take harmful hydro carbons and turns them into less harmful compounds. The byproducts of catalyzing exhaust fumes, creates Co2, water, and nitrogen. Non of which will causes a chronic illness

    This fire pit is one of a few covered pits that is on the list th-cam.com/users/postUgkxAU9pOCSV9Y5JprooHvfxTpOrt4hx8uRM of approved products for Disney Fort Wilderness. The product served its purpose well and provided excellent fires throughout the evening. We were able to open the door and do s'mores, but I had to be careful because the handle was a bit hot on occasions. Additionally, I wish they had replaced some of the standard nuts with lock nuts in some places. We lost the door handle after just a couple of days of usage. Not a deal breaker, just a recommendation. I still give it 5 stars.

    Wow that’s incredible! Does the catalyst material matter, as in is there a chemical reaction happening inside it, or is it just a heatsink, which heats up and combusts wood smoke thst goes through?

    • @alanmurphy2176
      @alanmurphy2176 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the catalytic material is a mix of Platinum and Palladium and a few other chemicals. These precious metals cause a chemical reaction with the carbon/smoke. The result of the chemical reaction is heat.

    • @cetyl2626
      @cetyl2626 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alanmurphy2176The key point and amazing thing being that the catalyst is *not* consumed. It's presence makes it EASIER for the propane to oxidize (burn) thus a flame is not needed, just the heat from the hot ceramic/metal substrate of the catalytic converter. The platinum part is just a coating on the grid.

    • @SubvertTheState
      @SubvertTheState ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, you can take an old catalytic converter, recover and refine the platinum and palladium and make a new one just fine.

    What kind of BTU'S does the King Ultra or 40 produce on a low setting? And the cost of replacing the combustor when it's time for replacing.

    • @blazeking9819
      @blazeking9819 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will deliver around 15,000 Btu's, depending on your install and the wood you use. This is enough energy to keep a mid sized home at a reasonable temperature when it is delivered constantly and evenly like a Blaze King does.

    Hello, I have a Princess PE32, after reloading the stove and following the manual's recommended 20 to 30 minute operation at maximum setting, the combustor thermometer needle runs off the high end, will this damage the combustor?

    • @blazeking9819
      @blazeking9819 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No this will not damage the combustor unless it stays off the scale for a long time period, like hours. If it does stay for a long time that first check the calibration on your thermometer. When the stove is cold does the needle point to the bottom, or close to, of the inactive zone. If it does then the thermometer is calibrated. Then check your door gasket fore wear and leaks. Do the paper test on the door seal. I.e. put a piece of paper on all 4 sides, one side at a time, of the door and see if the paper is held firmly when the door is latched. If the paper is easy to pull out your door latch may need to be adjusted or your door gasket may need replacing. The needle will go off the scale when the combustor sees a lot of smoke which is fuel to the combustor. this usually happens when you turn the stove from high to low quickly. The stove usually settles down after 10 to 15 minutes. Your dealer should be able to help you with any of the above suggestions as he is the local expert.

    • @dough6393
      @dough6393 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@blazeking9819 Thank you for the quick response. this stove is new, fired it up Monday, the thermometer settles down in a few minutes after the draft is reduced, I am getting 15+ hours between reloading easily, modulates in the active zone the entire time. Is it OK to burn the stove wide open with the thermostat set on high for long periods? I'm talking hours

    • @blazeking9819
      @blazeking9819 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can run your stove on high. The thermostat will automatically close as the room heats up. But be careful, if you have placed your stove in an area the stove does not have enough energy to heat like um-insulated basement. The energy output of the stove will never heat the area and the thermostat will never close. This will over-fire your stove and ware it out prematurely. The stove is designed for habitable areas only.
