Messy was my favorite song from this album until I heard Good Books. Black Cab, the live in a garage version, is also another incredible recording. My 13 year old told me he thinks it sounds better than the album version (& I agree - just had to brag on his great ear, lol). I'm also very fond of her performance of Don't Hate Me with a German plugged orchestra. Fucking incredible.

After subscribing I started watching your other videos and realised - Ok, if Paolo likes this song I am probably gonna like it too. We have a very very similar taste in music and I am happy that I found your channel. This song (unknown to me) is very interesting and well-made. Her voice actually reminded me of a younger version of Macy Gray (remember her worldwide hit "I Try"? from 1999) and she also gave me slight Amy Winehouse moments. Thank you for your video! I know a couple other people have already pointed out that SOPHIE was the inspiration for "So I." But i think they're underselling how much SOPHIE influenced Charli's sound. Some of the more experimental stuff you pointed out like the weird sounds, the distorted synths, heavy percussion, etc. are pretty signature SOPHIE. (and A. G. Cook/PC Music) SOPHIE worked with a LOT of the more interesting pop girls, and once you learn her sound, you'll hear it everywhere. Her own music is a lot more experimental, too. Her brother also just released her final album (posthumously) this year, featuring songs that were finished or almost finished but SOPHIE passed away before she could release them. There is a lot to check out from her, and i highly recommend.

Ariana's speaking voice didn't really change at all. She's just stylistically choosing to talk in bit higher and lighter voice in higher placement because it's very comfortable and doesn't tire her voice. It's very common practice singers do to preserve their voice, especially when they have a lot of interviews coming up or a lot of shows so this way they don't risk any damage to their vocal cords. I have no idea why the internet made such a big thing of that when she's been doing this her whole career, especially after she finished her each of her tours.

I rarely bring this up because it's such a serious undertone to this glorious song, but "Good Luck, Babe!" is one of Chappell's several trademark "dancing while hurting" songs. The hurting is both Chappell's, who is out, but moreso the closeted girl's who won't accept her gayness, who hides it and struggles emotionally in the process. She'd have to stop the world to stop her feeling. Well, no one can stop the world at large, that continues regardless of anybody and anything. The only "world" anyone can bring to a halt is their own. Chappell was raised in very judgmental small-town evangelical Christianity and was depressed the entire time. She's also suffered very serious depression in recent years. We all know that the number of closeted gay people who have unalived themselves is tragically large. Even today there are people living under such harsh and intense societal, religious, and family pressures that they come to believe the only solution for them is not to exist at all. That is the "world" winding down to a dead stop at the end of the song. That's one of "you'd have to stop the world" 's meanings. I believe Chappell has acknowledged that the song can also be regarded as her present day self addressing her younger self who dated only men and was engaged to men twice. This is paradoxically and brilliantly a thrilling dance song... about potentially deadly serious emotional pain. Thankfully people can and do choose to go with a less heavy meaning, too. "Good Luck, Babe!" was recently named by Rolling Stone magazine as the Best Song of 2024. It certainly deserves to be, including for this tragic level that most listeners don't even grasp. IMO that makes this not just a great song, but a major work of art as well.

I cannot tell you how much rewatch value I get out of your fabulous reaction to this epically good Kylie album. I love how insightful and thoughtful your commentary is and how you pick up on the little things that make this album so magical ✨️ I was surprised by how much I liked Hello as I normally don't like an overly robotic vocal but there is something about that track that I just adore and I can't quite put my figure out what it is. There were only 2 tracks that didn't really click with me. Diamonds just felt generic to me. Dance Alone whilst the verses and pre chorus were brilliant the chorus and ending was just too repetitive to me. They crammed "I just wanna dance alone" in there a lot 😂 Overall I found Tension II to be a stronger album compared to Tension 1 but they do marry well together. Listening to both albums back to back is a real treat and it's cohesive for me. Again fab reaction vid that I'll be revisiting often 💖🌈

I wouldn’t necessarily say to react to any entire album of hers since a lot of her songs can be very slow and not for everyone 😂 but you should definitely listen to ‘I Miss You, I’m Sorry’, ‘Risk’ (it’s like That’s So True) and ‘Feels Like’. I think these would be right up your alley!
