Mini Super 50th anniversary
มุมมอง 2832 ปีที่แล้ว
This October it will be 50 years since my dad gave me a Keil Kraft Mini Super kit for a birthday present. To celebrate that I took it down from the garage ceiling, gave it new rubber bands and took it to the field. Originally the model was said to need two or three channels: engine, rudder and maybe also an elevator. Me and my dad built it for three channels. Later I added ailerons, steerable n...

    It wouldn't have stopped the elevator horn breaking but that plane would have been a hell of a lot easier to fly with roll and pitch gyros. Most ordinary flyers think gyros are "cheating" - then they go to model airshows and marvel at show pilots - who use gyros! Gyros don't fly the plane for you but they certainly smooth things out. Interesting video. Hope you rebuild.

Even though the CoG seems to be a little aft the strange thing is that the model needs a little up elevator. Remember the split elevator has a large moving area. Nice job of reproduction, a wooden propeller would be better, but you would have to add weight. And you've already put in plenty. In mine I put the ailerons to have more control in flight, since distortion is impossible on small wings. I have to test it again, since my os 5cc 4-stroke is small and does not take off.🖐

    • @birgiredwald
      @birgiredwald ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment. I agree on the wooden propellar. I have a Turnigy 10x4 wooden proppeller ready but have been using a Robbe 10x5 plastic one while building currage and competence. The SC 30 FS engine has marginal power similar to your OS. I can see in one of your videos that you have been using a 10x5 wooden prop and a plastic one also. How do they compare? B

      Thanks Douglas Well, yes, I would think so. The wings on this model are flexible enough to accept the warping but the mechanics needed to implement it are most likely a bit more complicated than one would think in the beginning. Mr. Boddington did not implement wing warping in his plans and I doubt that it would help flying the model. However, the challenge to try it is very compelling. :-) B.
