Woman off grid with dog
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 30 ก.ย. 2022
Hello 😊 My name is Carrie and I live off grid in Maine with my dog Tank and my dad has recently joined us from NC. I have been off grid since July of 2020. I have been dreaming of living this way my whole life and now here I am! Living off grid takes lots of hard work but it is so rewarding. I plan on doing videos of how I live day to day, adventures that Tank and I go on, and some about prepping. I hope you join me 🐾 My favorite saying is No Tank No Thanks. I hope everyone is having a wonderful day, live every day to its fullest, and respect nature. 🦉

First aid and OTC meds I keep on hand for off grid living and being prepared
มุมมอง 296 วันที่ผ่านมา
Hello and welcome back. In this video I show some of the items I have in my “at home Walgreens”. Well that is what my family calls it. 🤣 I think it is very important to have basic First Aid and over the counter medicine on hand. Especially living off grid and not being close to a store or medical office. It is also a great idea in case of an emergency or shortage. Being prepared can really ease...

How do you prepare for an emergency with Tank.
Example being what if tank gets in a tangle with a porcupine! How far is an emergency vet?
@@kyliebeaudoin5691 That is a great question! I try to keep at least 6 months of food for him at my home at all times. It is a variety to include dry food, canned salmon, and I cook food for him and freeze it. I keep several common meds for him like dewormer, stomach remedies, and flea and tick. I store water for myself but also for him. I always have 2 back harnesses, vests, leashes. I also keep a back up tracking collar for him. I also have a first aid kit that is made for dogs. I try to prep for him similar to the way I prep for myself.
@@kyliebeaudoin5691 The emergency vet is a little over an hour away. Luckily there is one up North. I have done research on how to try to remove those on my own if absolutely these was no other choice and I do keep antiseptic on hand. I have the tools needed. I have only removed them from a cat before and not a dog. One thing I have been looking into is getting a mild sedative to keep on hand for him just in case I ever need it for an energy such as this.
Cool cool
@@NorthWoodsMainer the next time you come visit I can show you where it is 😊
What was that campground where you needed to register? Thanks. I visited Katahdin Woods this summer and it was splendid!
@@bradlafferty I am not sure if it has a name. It is right off the Golden Rd on the Millinocket end. I will look back in the video and see if the sign had a name. It is before you get to the dam.
Beautiful pond/lake under the grey sky! Thanks for the view!
By the way, Bag Balm is the best. I’m from New England.
@@bradlafferty I love that someone else thinks Bag Balm is the best!
Good content. Do you make any herbal or other home remedies? If so, could you do a vid about that? Thanks.
@@bradlafferty Yes I can to that 😊

Amazing that the cotton ball, which is less dense in the wood, burn for over twice as long! And it’s smaller to carry! Good vid, thanks.
The survival medicine handbook by Joseph and Amy Alton this is a great book and is very descriptive.
@@jbkarma1977 Awesome. I will check that out. Thank you.
Yup. Me, too.
Situational awareness and instinct feelings are the most important considerations to me, so I was glad to see you highlight them up front. Another important tool to have is a stout walking staff and how to use it as a defensive tool. There are several good instructional videos on YT that can teach you these techniques. Good vid.
@@bradlafferty Thank you so much. The walking stick is a great idea! I will check out those videos.
Liked this overview of books. Have you tried some of these things and, if so, how’d it turn out? Thanks. New sub.
@@bradlafferty Thank you. Yes I have. I will get together a list and make a short video about it. I appreciate you subscribing.
Yep it affects even babies
@@DawnDenman I saw your message yesterday. I felt bad that your little grand babies were having a hard time 😫
I wish it would STAY on DLST forever!!!!
Clearly you don’t understand what happens to the earth when the cold seasons come. Daylight savings time doesn’t have anything to do with the day and night. It would still be dark earlier in the winter as the earth’s position towards the sun is further away in the winter. 😂😂😂😂
@@joannakuyt1512 Thank you for being rude. Of course I understand what happens to the Earth. I was saying I don’t agree with changing the clocks back and forwards. I hope you have a great day and share your “kindness” with others.
Clearly you don't understand what happens when you have a job, Joanna. Your boss doesn't care what time the sun comes up. If she doesn't get off work until 4:15, and today's 4:15 is yesterday's 5:15....what does that tell you?
Always a bad apple in the basket! If you don’t have anything nice to say. ..then don’t say. Or at the very least, stay on topic of actual question asked!
Yes
Thanks for demonstrating the fuel sources. It was very helpful..
@@angelafowler508 You’re welcome. I am so happy to hear that it was helpful. Thank you.
You have got a nice collection of solar generators and the 500x still working for 5 years almost daily is great,
@@rob8540 Thank you. I know. I think that is why I haven’t tried another brand yet.
For some reason, hearing it’s “not active” makes me think of it as a missile silo. Which it basically is, a home for small, guided, angry, reusable, bio-warfare missiles
That is true. I don’t care for them so I was glad it was dormant/empty.

What I like about autumn in Nth America, is all the colours of your beautiful leaves. It would be so stunning to have those pinks, a reds, oranges, and golds here. Our native trees are evergreens, and our winters are not cold enough to produce the high colours of the exotics. Absolutely LOVE seeing your autumn, oops, fall colours
@@carmenbyrne6521 the colors are amazing. I never get tired of seeing them year after year. I know in Maine we say Fall a lot of Autumn is probably the real term 🤣🤣
Really informative!
@@PamHarriman Thank you 😊🐾
Great to see these. As a journalist and advocate, I wrote and researched a lot about solar energy, but that was basically in the 1980s and '90s. So I've been out of the game for a while. Thanks for bringing me up to the date. This gives me real hope.

I’ll have to get a solar generator for my hunting cabin
@@NorthWoodsMainer I think that is a great idea! They work really well. I need to see your hunting cabin!
I'm interested in topics concerned with self-sufficiency, other people call it preparedness. In other words, I'm looking for a low cost start to going off-grid completely, not just for the occasional power outage. Basic expenses continue to increase, but, my income does not. I would like see demonstrations involving how and how long to charge power bank and using power bank for various activities with statistics. What appliances would you suggest to start with. And, I am particularly concerned with safety, I don't want things catching on fire.
@@RunningOnHope23 I have a previous video that shows what I do for regular everyday power. I use the solar generator to work since my computer and Star link use quite a bit. My refrigerator, lights, and other things in my camp run off of that system. I agree. Safety is super important. It is scary how much our expenses grow without our income growing.
@@RunningOnHope23 I will try to create some more videos that pertain to what you are interested in 😊
@@womanoffgridwithdog thankyou, I'm looking forward to it!

I learned a lot watching this. I'm interested in renewables and off-grid living, mostly as an observer of the efforts of people I know. Those of you who do this are a very inspiring. My best to you!
Hi, Tank!
Though I'm not a coffee drinker, I enjoyed this. I visited Maine more than 30 years ago doing research for a writing effort. I was mostly in Hallowell and Augusta and loved it! It was late December. Yeah, I went into the belly of a Maine winter, and got lucky. Most of the days I was there it was record high temps, like around 50 Fahrenheit. On the way back, I got my comeuppance, a monster snowstorm while driving through Pennsylvania. But I made it. Anyway, I really liked Maine. And I look forward to more of your vids. I subscribed.
@@brianarbenz1329 That is cool that you h e been to Maine before. That was warm for December. We have only been in the 50s this week and it is October. Thanks for subscribing. 😊
Nice. A short video doesn’t have to be about somebody jumping off a cliff with a parasail or pulling a prank in a restaurant. Thank you.

Get 4 piece of panel that are like 550w each, dont use those tiny 100 wat panels,i see everyone using those....for 100$ here in Romania you can get a 470w panel, even 3 of these could supply all the power you need for this kind of smal usage, and keep the 2 renogy batteries always healthy....i bet you give more on fuel than a charge controler from victron and 3 panels would cost...i set up 7 of this smal systems for old ppl in my town, for runing fridges and TV,a radio,or laptop...and led lights ofc...they are so happy since....
