Heart Change Over Short Change: Faith-Centered Rehab for Teens
In this powerful episode, I’m joined by Austin Davis, LPC-S, the heart and visionary behind Clearfork Academy, a leading teen rehab facility in Fort Worth, Texas. Austin’s journey is one of deep purpose-an inspiring call to help adolescents find healing and hope through faith, community, and clinical care.
Austin shares the mission of Clearfork Academy to create a lasting impact, or “LEGACY,” in the lives of teens and their families, working through values rooted in H.U.S.T.L.E. and Fun: Honor, Unity, Sacrifice, Transparency, Legacy, Excellence, and Fun. At Clearfork Academy, teens don’t just undergo short-term therapy; they embark on a transformative journey. With a unique approach centered on heart change, Clearfork offers a Christ-centered, therapeutic experience designed to address not only addiction but the deeper issues of the heart.
In our conversation, we explore the importance of a faith-centered community in recovery, Austin’s personal path from ministry to mental health, and how Clearfork Academy is setting a new standard in adolescent rehab. Join us for a discussion on how faith, therapy, and intentional support can guide teens toward a new legacy.
Listen in for hope, purpose, and the power of lasting change!

Here's the hard truth: the more you explain, the less he will understand. When you try to explain everything, especially to someone dealing with addiction, their brain can shut down. Instead, give them the information and let it sit for a bit. This allows them time to absorb it. Over-explaining can overwhelm them. Another hard truth is that over-explaining makes you seem like you don't fully understand what you're talking about. It can come across as insecure. Confident people don’t over-explain-they provide the info and allow others to process it. Think about the best boss you’ve had. They didn’t keep coming back to re-explain things. They trusted you to get it. We often over-explain to our kids, which can make them more frustrated. If you explain something to your addicted loved one once and nothing changes, it’s time to rethink your approach or ask how you can make it clearer. Over-explaining makes you seem unsure, and not giving him time to process means he won’t truly grasp what you’re saying. #soberonpurpose #christianwife #addictswife #Alanon #alanonrecovery #codependentnomore #codependencyrecovery #alanonwife #wifeofanalcoholic #wedorecover #setboundariesforyourself #boundaries

"What's the deal with 'being friends first'? 🤔💬 Being friends first opens up a whole new world of possibilities. When we jump straight into intimacy, we often get wrapped up in our own little bubble, spending all our time together. It's natural to want that deep connection right away. But being friends first gives us the chance to really get to know each other, flaws and all, before diving into something more serious. As friends, we can explore different activities together, both alone and with others. We can embark on new adventures, enriching our individual lives while also strengthening our bond. It's about taking the time to appreciate each other's positive qualities and understanding each other's quirks before making any big decisions. Have you experienced the 'friends first' approach? Myth #1: Keep Reminding We often believe that if we keep repeating something, eventually the other person will understand and remember. But think about it: constantly saying, "I need you to do this," trains them to rely on you and forget what you said. My husband once told me, "I don't need to remember, you'll remind me." While that’s passive-aggressive, it’s also a result of my actions. It's like training a dog to eat at a specific time; they’ll always expect it then. Constant reminders aren't effective. In grace and recovery, we discuss how it turns into parenting, not partnering. Share your request once, maybe twice. By the third time, it's a campaign. Here’s a tip I learned: stop the reminders. #soberonpurpose #christianwife #addictswife #Alanon #alanonrecovery #codependentnomore #codependencyrecovery #alanonwife #wifeofanalcoholic #wedorecover #setboundariesforyourself #boundaries #healthyboundaries #recoverycoach #addictionrecovery #couragetochange #addictionsucks

🌟 ADDICTION MYTH 🌟 Myth: Addiction is a moral failing. Reality: Addiction does not occur because of moral weakness, a lack of willpower, or an unwillingness to stop. This understanding comes from decades of research into the effects of substance use on the brain. Initially, individuals drink or take drugs voluntarily, believing they can control their use. Over time, they need more and more of the substance to achieve the same level of pleasure and satisfaction. Seeking out and using the substance becomes a near-constant activity, causing significant problems for them and their loved ones. At the same time, progressive changes in the brain drive the compulsive, uncontrollable use known as addiction. When this happens, individuals can no longer choose to stop using drugs or alcohol voluntarily, even if it means losing everything they once valued. As loved ones, understanding this helps us provide the empathy and support they need to overcome their struggles. 💙

Chances are, you’ve tried it all-nagging, threats, tough love, therapy-then like the most sane people, you just gave up and started ignoring the issues, hoping they will GO AWAY. That is the common wisdom right? that you’re powerless over this - am I right? Choosing to keep wishing, hoping, and begging for your loved one suffering from addiction to magically change simply doesn’t make sense (unless you’re a glutton for punishment.) As long as you continue to label yourself with names like codependent, enabler, failure, the downward spiral of your relationship because of addiction will continue. And certainly, if you keep looking outside yourself for answers and giving your power away, you are going to stay right where you are, lonely and depressed!. And that's not what I want for you. Say "YES" in the comments and I will send you the resources!!! #soberonpurpose #christianwife #addictswife #Alanon #alanonrecovery #codependentnomore #codependencyrecovery #alanonwife #wifeofanalcoholic #wedorecover #setboundariesforyourself #boundaries #healthyboundaries #recoverycoach #addictionrecovery #couragetochange #addictionsucks

Sometimes the wounds we bear as loved ones of an addict are visible to everyone, and sometimes they don’t leave a scar. Regardless of the situation, it’s not the time to hide anymore-at least not to hide from the truth. It is important to take the first step. Maybe he is a devoted father and a good husband, but you can't keep his addiction a secret any longer. A secret is a powerful thing. It can protect, or it can destroy. The energy it takes to hide that secret will starve a marriage of the openness it needs to grow or even survive. I've learned that a secret can only hold power over me when it’s hidden. A secret revealed and brought into the light of God’s love no longer has a hold on me. Besides, there are no secrets from God. He is always faithful. He always hears us. He is always ready to help us. All we have to do is ask. Ask for help. Say yes to grace and recovery.👇

🌟 Sobriety is fragile. 🌟 Substance misuse often masks deep feelings of fragility, damage, or being unloved. When someone stops using alcohol or drugs, they might emotionally revert to the age they were when they started. As loved ones of those struggling with addiction, it's crucial to double up on our self-care. 💖💪 #soberonpurpose #christianwife #addictswife #Alanon #alanonrecovery #codependentnomore #codependencyrecovery #alanonwife #wifeofanalcoholic #wedorecover #setboundariesforyourself #boundaries #healthyboundaries #recoverycoach #addictionrecovery #couragetochange #addictionsucks

The fallout from addiction is devastating for both addicts and the people who love them. It involves manipulations, guilt, broken relationships, and shattered lives. When addicts know they are loved by someone who is deeply invested in them, it can fuel their addiction. Your love and desire to help them might lead you to give money you can't afford, say yes when it will destroy you, lie to protect them, and feel your body turn cold with fear at the sound of a midnight phone call. You dread seeing them, yet you need to see them, all at once. 🌟 How you live your life as a loved one of an addict is your responsibility. Are you ready to take on that responsibility? 🌟 #soberonpurpose #christianwife #addictswife #Alanon #alanonrecovery #codependentnomore #codependencyrecovery #alanonwife #wifeofanalcoholic #wedorecover #setboundariesforyourself #boundaries #healthyboundaries #recoverycoach #addictionrecovery #couragetochange #addictionsucks

ADDICTION MYTH : HE IS DOING THIS TO HURT ME 😢💔 Reality: When a loved one is struggling with addiction, it can feel personal 😔, but addiction is a disease 🧠 that primarily affects the individual’s brain and behavior. The actions resulting from addiction, such as lying or neglecting responsibilities, are symptoms of the disease rather than intentional acts to cause pain. Understanding this can help in approaching the situation with empathy 💖 and support 🤝 rather than blame and resentment. #soberonpurpose #christianwife #addictswife #Alanon#alanonrecovery #codependentnomore #codependencyrecovery #alanonwife #wifeofanalcoholic #wedorecover #setboundariesforyourself #boundaries #healthyboundaries #recoverycoach #addictionrecovery #couragetochange #addictionsucks

💭 Myth: If someone just uses willpower, they should be able to stop. 🌟 Reality: Alcohol and other drugs can lead to profound changes in the brain. These changes alter the natural “reward pathway” of the brain. In nature, rewards usually only come with effort and after a delay. But addictive substances shortcut this process and flood the brain with chemicals that signal pleasure. When addiction takes hold, these changes in the brain erode a person’s self-control and ability to make good decisions, while sending highly intense impulses to take drugs. These are the same circuits linked to survival, driving powerful urges no different from those driving the need to eat or drink water. These overwhelming impulses help explain the compulsive and often irrational behavior around addiction. People will keep using even when terrible things happen. 🧠🚫 Are you ready to shatter this myth? Drop a "yes" below and join me on an eye-opening journey with my new program! Let's bring some #AddictionAwareness, challenge misconceptions, and embrace a #RealityCheck together.

Addiction is a disease, and as such, you didn’t cause it. ❌ You can’t control it. ❌ And you can’t cure it. ❌ There’s a fourth C that isn't mentioned often but is crucial: you don’t have to contribute to it. 🙅‍♀️ How? By not doing for others what they can do for themselves, not cushioning them from the consequences of their choices, not making excuses for them, not paying their bounced checks, and not constantly rescuing them. 🚫 I’ve been there, and I learned that I am not God and don’t have power over anyone else. 🙏 All that does is create more chaos and turmoil. So, I prayed, took care of my emotional and physical health, stayed loving and supportive, but didn't contribute to the problem. ❤️ Do you agree? 🤔

I used to believe this myth that I could control him, control his behavior. That's where I was wrong...When I learned this, it seemed so weird to me, so contrary to everything I'd been told, everything I thought I knew. I just thought it couldn't be right, but that's the truth. Are you making the same mistake? Do you want to hear the truth? Type 'YES' and I'll share how you can help and support him and also heal yourself. 🌱✨💪

Let's debunk some common addiction myths together. 🚫💔 Myth: If they loved me, they'd stop. Reality: Addiction is a complex disease. No matter how much they love you, they can't just stop. It’s not about their feelings; it’s about needing professional help to overcome it. Myth: Different friends would fix it. Reality: While a supportive environment is important, simply changing friends won't cure addiction. They need comprehensive treatment to address deeper issues. Myth: I can solve their addiction alone. Reality: Your support is crucial, but addiction requires professional treatment. It's a multifaceted illness that needs a team approach. Myth: If I do the right things, they'll stop using. Reality: You can't control their addiction. Even if you do everything "right," they need the right support and treatment to recover. Myth: Less stress = no substance use. Reality: Stress is a trigger, but addiction is caused by many factors. Reducing stress helps, but it's not a standalone solution. Want to know the real deal? Join me at 7.30 p.m. EST/ 5.30 p.m. LIVE! All questions will be answered!!!

there are natural ways to handle problems, all problems, that don't leave negative, residual effects. look into The Natural Law, an ayurvedic lifestyle practice that works with all issues, including the incessant badgering that goes on in our minds. we can choose our thoughts and tell the other thoughts we don't want to take a hike.

my experience is that if the recovered addict still thinks it was them instead of the drug taking them over (and there's proof to that because many addicts have the exact same behaviors), they're still tormented by those thoughts.

    • @soberonpurpose
      @soberonpurpose 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thanks a lot for sharing your insights! It's fascinating to explore alternative approaches to handling life's challenges. In terms of addiction recovery, your point about the recovered addict's mindset is quite thought-provoking. Viewing addiction as the drug taking over rather than a personal failing is indeed a powerful shift in perspective. It aligns with the understanding that many addicts exhibit similar behaviors, pointing towards the influence of substances.
