    Beautiful. I’m making something similar based on your idea for my stereo. What kind of hinges are those two types? How does it clear the drawer top when you open it without having to leave a big gap between them?

    • @SimbaDMB
      @SimbaDMB 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Sorry, it’s in video. “sugatsune drop leaf” - Still trying to figure out how the top board clears the top of the drawers when it opens?

    • @barrwoodworksfurniture
      @barrwoodworksfurniture 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks. The hinges in the center sit flush with the lid and the inside surface, so you just need to make sure there is about 1/8"+ space to clear the drawers. The hinges are called "drop leaf hinges" and are adjustable. The ones on the sides are called "flap stay" and are also adjustable depending on weight of lid. Good luck!

    Out of curiousity - why the dominoes in one portion and the floating tennons in another. What size dominoes are you using and how thick are the stiles/railes. It looks loke a lot of dominoes. Are you using hte 1/3 mortise rule? I am looking to build a carriage door and am looking for ideas.

    • @barrwoodworksfurniture
      @barrwoodworksfurniture 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Started with larger floating tenons but realized it was too time consuming with a router. If you have access to a domino machine that is the way to go! Size was 1/2" x 4". Rails and stiles are 1-3/4" thick, so more dominos required...more surface area to bond with glue. If it was just one or two doors I would use traditional mortise and tenons. Good luck!

    Great video - how can I learn more about Newell post installation? What diameter threaded rod did you use, and how deep did you put it both below the floor and into the post? Is the threaded rod just driven straight into a 2x10 joist? What's the trick to targeting a joist AND making sure that your posts are evenly spaced? What would you do if your corner posts weren't directly over a joist?

    • @barrwoodworksfurniture
      @barrwoodworksfurniture 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks. I used a 7/16" drill bit to drill a pilot hole first and then used a 1/2" threaded rod. Since I knew where the 2x10 was located from the previous construction work it was easy to determine the drilling location and embedded the rod about 6". It very likely you have two 2x10s or 2x12s sistered to each other on either side. Before placing your flooring material you can cut a small section of subfloor to confirm, but that's how I would do it. No joist in the corners...you'll have to secure to the floor or add more supports to the next post (lots of PL Glue!). Check out Next LEvel Carpentry or Insider Carpentry, they both have content on newel post installations. Good luck.
