Both carbs need a vent line going into the airbox. The picture you showed looks like the PTO side was unplugged. Also a good idea to check you belt deflection. The top 1/8" of belt should be sticking out above the secondary sheaves.
I love this snowmobile revival videos!
I got the same sled (a 1992) for $500 bucks a couple years ago, just turned 5,000 miles on the all original engine (over 1,000 are on me). It's still fun to rip around town. Had to bypass the key ignition on it; seafoam, new fuel lines & filter, cleaned clutches and a new belt is it all it took. She's on her third season as a wood hauler and trail groomer now.
@@GreatWhiteNorthAK That’s awesome! Love it.
Sand the bottoms of the skis and repaint them and maybe you won't get stuck so much, worked for me!
Just slapped some ski skins on, waiting on snow to test them out ;)
Make you check the water pump on those because it's so old those seals dry rott , I bet you'll end up replacing g the water pump that's if you can find one and they don't make rebuild kits either
@@Brothercat2011 Already leaking, but at the O-ring not the pulley seal. Hopefully she holds with silicone!
@EricFB moat of thebtine they don't leak the motor will just over heat its eternal seals, it's kind of shitty design if yibask me I bought 3 used sleds and every pump owner bad on me in 99 to 97 sleds
Really good job
Thank you!
Spin the canoe around and sit in the front seat facing backwards and the canoe will balance out slit better without having to add a bunch of counterweight in the front. All that said nice mount and video.
Awesome thanks
Man, exactly what I needed. Thanks !!!!!

Honda shaft work with your clutch ?
@@johnny_boy7612 Yes, it’s got a 1-1/8 keyed strait shaft, same as that year Argo. That said that engine is also available with a 1” shaft as well as a tapered shaft. Cheers
@EricFB thanks , just watching your video and wanna do this to my argo , I have the 90 8x8 argo with the older m18 kohler , still haven't touched it or looked at it yet and was wondering if the clutch would work off it on the honda engine
Your track is pretty bald you should get a new one and who knows you won't get stuck so much
I got some ski skins for it, hoping that’ll help it get rolling a bit easier otherwise I might be looking for a new-used track. Cheers!
Love the vid.. more videos on the 440 indy.🎉
Thanks!
Now you need a floatplane !!
A float plane would be a blast! There are a few guys with them on the lake
@@EricFB i really love mine
Did you have to modify the hull for the waveraider nozzle? Doesn't the horn for the cable hit the hull? Can you give an idea how you did this? Cool ski!
I cut down the horn until it fit basically, bit of trial and error, No mods to hull. About an inch and a half then re-drilled/tapped. I’m running mine static like the 08+ superjet just to add a few degrees to the nozzle. If you’re looking to have dynamic trim you can run a bike brake cable through your siphon bilge line without removing it. I have a video on that setup specifically. Cheers!
The UV filter for some reason gets rather warm as does a few feet of copper pipe coming from it. It happens from time to time. Why ?
@@teekey1754 Totally normal, there is a literal lightbulb inside the tube. If you don’t use water for a while the water warms up/ warming up the plumbing around it. No big deal. Cheers
Noctua fans cost more but last forever they have sealed bearings to

Tigghhttt! Did ya ever get around to trying out the sea horse on yer mount?
@@matthewcruz6456 Not yet, this project pretty well consumed my summer. Hoping to get a run on it before the ice comes back. Cheers!
High Life box says it all. 😆 I was just thinking about sticking a trolling motor on my canoe. Good one man! 👍🫡
Where available
Cool project. I might try find a beat up old walk behind mower for a diy dump buggy
This is a beautiful design! I'll be copying it 😅 I feel like the motor was mou ted a little to far out. Was that intentional? I would think that closser to the boat would add more stability, but I've never used a motor, so i don’t know if there are any complications with mounting it that close.
Thank you! You could definitely mount the motor closer to the canoe. I left it long thinking I could shorten it later which I probably will. Cheers!
Curious if your 690 had the float oil level sensor with it and if you had to bypass that somehow? I am almost done swapping a 630 into my old 6 wheel and wanted to bypass it for going up steeper hills
Not sure to be honest, I’ve been up and down some uncomfortably steep hills and haven’t had any issues. My gut tells me they are the same, I can’t see Honda re-inventing the wheel on such similar engines. I’d run your engine as is and see if it’s an issue before giving yourself more work. Something else you could do leave the sensor and put a switch on the dash to “Bypass on demand”. Cheers
Did you do a test with the heavier engine? If so, what do you think of it? And do you prefer engine bracket or would you rather have a square stern?
@@Black-March I have not tested it yet the the gas motor. Too many other projects on the go. That said it would handle it strength wise. If you only have 1 canoe the bracket works well if you want a mix of motor/ paddle. If you only plan to use the canoe with a motor I’d probably get a square stern canoe just to you have 1 less piece of gear to drag around. Cheers
@@EricFB Ended up getting the regular version, wasn't worth $400 extra for a square..

Having trouble installing a new thermostat housing on my Mk5 2.5 Rabbit - that large pipe that goes into the water pump end just won't seat fully - I removed the old O-ring, there shouldn't be anything blocking my path, but I'm still over a 1/4 inch from fully seating so I can't install the mounting bolts. Any ideas? Been muscling it for the last 30 minutes with no luck.
If it won’t go in with out the o-ring, not sure, take a look around and make sure you aren’t getting hung up on something. If it won’t go with the o-ring, Put some silicone/ dielectric grease on the o-ring and it’ll pop in with a bit of love. Good luck!
@@EricFB Cheers! Thanks for the insight, I've got some dielectric grease sitting around, I'll see what I can do. Really appreciate the quick response. Thanks for being one of the few folks with this particular job posted on TH-cam.
@@EricFB Alright, progress made. The lip off the old thermostat had broken off and was lodged in there. Took it out with a pick, cleaned out the hole - and now I'm only 1/8th inch off from being able to screw the thermostat down lol dielectric grease helped but still not fully seating. Kind'a stumped, but I'm gonna take the night off and see how I can approach it tomorrow. Maybe it's a bad molding or rust built-up in the hole. I'll hit with a wire brush tomorrow.
Best price. Your rear suspension needs to be gone through. Theres too much resistance when you take off
@@MidnightPolaris800 it’s on the to-do list. So far found one missing bolt in the skid. Going to pull it all apart. I love how ugly it is, would be great to have it rolling a touch better.
My first outboard when I was a kid on a 14' Starcraft on the St. Lawrence River. About 1961 my Aunt gave it to me. Ran great except leaked gas into the boat when the motor was tilted up. Rotate it 180° to go backwards.
Hi, I have the same motor. What kind of V-belt pulley and motor mount did you use? Can you give me the link please? Thanks
For the pulley I can’t remember for sure, Amazon or princess auto (harbour freight type store), measure your shaft size to get a pulley with the correct bore. Depending on your setup it’ll either be keyed or have a set screw. V-belts are pretty forgiving, I’ve seen people diy pulleys out of just about anything. For the belt I roughly measured the size and went to princess auto and purchased a bunch of belts +/- what I measured and returned the ones that didn’t fit. Good luck!
Sit on the front seat facing backwards for proper weight distribution in a symmetrical canoe.
Pro, nice Idea was thinking of ways to do this with the side mount canoe vs top lip. Instead of those fancy clamps you could have ran the angle iron on the outside and drilled holees through the angle iron, put bolts through and used a double nut system as a tensioner.
What was the issue with the Kawasaki?... i have an 8x8 conquest like this with tge FD620D engine. When i thrash it hard recoveting a moose from the bush, i get an issue where the carboretter bowl gets so hot, the fuel is boiling up. It is driving me nuts & I have not yet figured out a fix or a root cause.
The Kawasaki engine was already out when I got this Conquest. I just replaced the he engine he had in it for the Honda. Brand new + Honda reliability. In your case I’m not sure. Make sure your cooling system is fully operational (rad plugged with mud/ leafs etc) heat shields in place, air filter not clogged etc. I do believe these struggle to keep cool when worked hard in the heat but worth giving it a look over. Good luck
Nice finding
Thanks!
It’s a homeowner model, junk
Would be a lot more stable and handle well with someone else up front, or a couple of bags of builders sand as ballast.
I’ve put some miles on this setup since the video and yes it’s much more stable with a more balanced load. Even took the whole family on an hour ride no issues. Cheers!
LOL concerning the counterweight up front! Good job on the build.
😂 Thanks!
Nice work for a first timer! I have two 94s (xlt special and 500 efi) and a 97 trail. They are all good for different reasons. Those 440 are fun too, and great for kids or beginners. The sugary drift snow is rough on the evolved chassis with short tracks and short lugs though. It should do just fine on the trails with those trail studs.
$1291 Cdn and shipping costs..too rich for my blood need my old Beatty repaired..
Can’t argue with that, just hope it last as long as everyone says it will!
I bought a canoe yesterday . Great timing . Cool video
Thanks man, enjoy!
Excellent work and ideas!
Thank you!
My father in law had a similar motor at his cottage on Lake Huron near Tobermory, Ontario, Canada. I believe his was a 5 horse. We had it on a 14 foot aluminum boat. We used that motor for a long time trolling for Rainbow Trout in the waters surrounding his cottage. Having to turn the motor completely around with the propellor under the boat was always a cool thing to do. RIP Hank Gardiner. Like you he could tinker and fix anything.
Very cool, that’s a great area!
Old quality motor, we have 12 inches of ice on our lake as well.
Well done! Keep the projects coming! When is the motor mount video coming?
could be the condensers, sometimes when they fail they are ok cold
Good point!
