    Afair user data script runs as root, so you don’t have to use sudo. Btw, what was your case that you have to use non-latest version of docker?

    • @WojciechLepczynski
      @WojciechLepczynski หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the feedback. Of course you are right you don't need to use sudo in user data. Dependencies between services can be really annoying sometimes. I had software that didn't support the latest version of docker so I had to use version 23 or 24.

    Private NAT gateway can only be connected to one subnet. Let's say we have VPC1 and NAT-GW is connected here. We can connect to instances in VPC2 However when you want to connect from instances in VPC2 to VPC1, do you have to create a second NAT-GW in VPC2 ?

    • @WojciechLepczynski
      @WojciechLepczynski 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, if the subnets have the same CIDR then you need to hide your subnet. You can create another NAT gateway for this purpose. It is also possible to use AWS PrivateLink or something else, but I focused here on NAT-GW.

    For resource kms don’t work Is different for key policy?

    • @WojciechLepczynski
      @WojciechLepczynski 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are no implicit or automatic permission to use or manage a KMS key. The primary way to manage access to your AWS KMS resources is with policies. KMS keys belong to the AWS account in which they were created. However, no identity or principal, including the AWS account root user, has permission to use or manage a KMS key unless that permission is explicitly provided in a key policy, IAM policy or grant. The IAM identity who creates a KMS key is not considered to be the key owner and they don't automatically have permission to use or manage the KMS key that they created. Like any other identity, the key creator needs to get permission through a key policy, IAM policy, or grant. However, identities who have the kms:CreateKey permission can set the initial key policy and give themselves permission to use or manage the key. To better understand KMS you can read for example docs.aws.amazon.com/kms/latest/developerguide/control-access.html

    I looked up online and was shocked to read something like S3 deleting your files in 30 days, so does that mean that it'll only delete it if you create a policy? Otherwise the data stays there forever until you manually delete it?

    • @WojciechLepczynski
      @WojciechLepczynski 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. If you do nothing, your files will still be in S3. You can create a lifecycle policy as I described in the video and your unused files will be automatically deleted after the time you specify. It could be 30 days, a year or several years. This will save you time and money. If you need to store files for a long time but you don't use them, it's a good idea to familiarize yourself with the different storage classes for example aws.amazon.com/s3/storage-classes/glacier/

    Hi Wojciech, thanks for the useful tutorial. I have a question: if I want to delete files (objects) from a particular folder, should I also tick the option "Permanently delete noncurrent versions of objects"? I noticed you selected "Expire current versions of objects". What would be the difference between the two and are files completely deleted after ticking "Expire current versions of objects"? Thanks a lot.

    • @WojciechLepczynski
      @WojciechLepczynski 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, using versioning in S3 you can have several versions of the same file. So if you don't use versioning then you can only delete the current version like I did. If you want to remove all versions, you must also select remove noncurrent versions. You can find more about versioning in docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonS3/latest/userguide/Versioning.html

If the object is deleted and there are no files using that path, then the folder will also disappear. You can add a filter to your Lifecycle rule, and "Specify minimum object size" and only delete objects > 0 bytes. I expect your 0-sized objects will remain, but I didn't test it. Once you check it, you can let me know if it works ;)

    Hey, how should I modify code and trigger if I want Lambda function to invoke everytime I insert file into one of subfolders? So in your example let's say under 'images/' there would be 3 another subfolders and I want this function to work if you insert file to one of them. I tried to change prefix to 'images/*' and same thing for trigger but it's not working. I'd appreciate some help with that

    • @WojciechLepczynski
      @WojciechLepczynski 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Calling the function depends on the S3 trigger, you only change the Prefix from 'images/' to 'images/subfolder1/' ( 3:30 in the video). Thanks to this, only when you add something to the subfolder 'subfolder1' in images, the function will be launched. You'll probably have to create a new trigger because AWS won't let you change the current one. Once you create a trigger, wait a few minutes and then test it

      @@WojciechLepczynski got it. The thing is I'm uploading data from Kinesis to S3 on daily basis and each day it's creating me another subfolder. So in my case 'images' is really '2023' and then I have subfolder '11' and then under that '6' for yesterday, '7' for today, etc. So I'd like to copy files from one bucket to another one when for example tomorrow it will insert some files to newly created subfolder '8'. I mean I don't want to specify subfolder '8' as a source/trigger but I want it to work also for day after tomorrow, etc. Is it possible to achieve something like this with this function?

       @arturpater9947 It is possible, If I understood correctly just specify the main folder, as '2023'. It should also work for all files and subfolders in it. For me, the trigger is the 'images' folder and if I create several subfolders in it and create a file, it will also call the function. You can also use 'CloudWatch events' as a trigger. You can specify that you move data from a folder and all subfolders to a different location every day at a specific time. It all depends on what you want to achieve. Of course, I recommend testing first. It may also turn out that you will need to improve the code in the lambda function.

      Thanks for your support and kind words. I'm currently working on a video about warming up the lambda function.

      Cool, that would be my next topic to learn in AWS. Thanks for always creating free stuff for us to learn. @@WojciechLepczynski

      Thank you for your feedback. I usually speed up videos when I watch them. Someone already wrote about this. I don't want to waste your time, but I try to record each new video at a slower speed and add more content to it. The difficult balance is between giving short advice and adding enough background. Thanks again for the feedback, I hope it gets better with each video, if not please let me know.
