Top Bike Maintenance and Repair Tools
Quick overview of my favorite and most used bicycle maintenance and repair tools. We have quite the active fleet across our family and so these tools get a lot of use! I forgot to mention a few. Most specifically I forgot to mention the Park Tool Pedal Wrench (PW-5) you see in the video, I actually use that a decent amount as I'm often changing pedals between kids bikes.
These are the Wera Hex wrenches that I absolutely love: www.kctool.com/wera-073593-multicolor-hex-ball-end-hex-metric-l-key-clip-set/

    I have the 24 wilderness. I got in early June. The deler gave me a premium trim with the 2.5. It seems like you’re on the throttle a lot more to get that one moving. I had my wilderness in for service. every time you start the car. It always has to idle up to 1500 RPM. Even in hot weather. And the wireless chargers seems to only make your phone hot, but they came back and told me everything is operating normal.

    I have the Onyx XT. I had a Crosstrek Wilderness but when I took it in for service I saw 0% on the Outbacks and was like, "Awe hell yeah!" I love it! Had a 4Runner before the Subies but was it killing me with fuel economy. I am mostly on the highway and don't go off road ever so I am very happy with the Onyx XT. Plenty of power, stylish interior, great fuel economy, AWD etc. list goes on and on. Great vehicles!

    Does the 22 Wilderness have the built in / retractable cross bars?

    • @thatdadvideo
      @thatdadvideo หลายเดือนก่อน

      It does not, instead it comes from the factory with heavier duty side rails upon which you then need to add your own cross bars of choice. Subaru states the reason being that this enables you to carry more weight vs the retractable swing arms found on other Outback models.

    Suggestion : For gearing issues, and with respect to belt drives and cogs and other hard to change features; have two new holes drilled on your cranks, at a shop which can cut threads for pedals. If you shorten your crank length to an effective 160- 165 mm ( leaving the original holes alone) you can install your ( better) pedals and see what that can do to give you a slower turning pedal rotation. I only accidentally discovered the benefits of shorter crank lengths. I'm a strong rider but getting older and the smaller circles for the knees and the other joints was very beneficial. You will effectively be gearing into a harder gear going from what looks like 175 mm on your bike to 160 - ? Smaller circles rotate more slowly. Like your hubs, compared to your rims. Think about it. You're not a bad size for considering crank length changes. I'm 6' and I go with 165 all the time now. Also, get grippy pedals so you can change gears by positioning your feet 1/2" - 1" further back on the pedal while climbing hills. Exactly the same thing as changing gears. I have ten bikes. Two of them are one speeds. I do 100 mile rides on them, changing gears by foot placement on the pedal. So simple. So zen. My favourite gear ratio is 34 x 15. But lots of other ratios can work well. Yours seems fixed as it's a belt drive. So yeah; just drill holes on your crank arms. Carefully ! Cheers mate

    I have a 2023 Outback Wilderness and the Infotainment screen is my least favorite feature. I wish the climate control functions had physical buttons since the touch screen can be laggy and slow when the car first starts. (The safety disclaimer that shows up on the screen blocks out the climate controls and the slowness makes it hard to dismiss so the climate controls can be used). Sometimes the wireless Android Auto won't connect and I have to use the USB cable but I don't know if that's a problem with the car or my phone. The seatbelt chime is annoying, especially when I just want to move the vehicle to another spot in my driveway or yard real quick. Otherwise, I love everything about the car. I've taken it on 13 hour road trips and was super comfortable the whole time. I've taken it up rough forestry service roads in Colorado and it had no problem. I can't wait to take it out on some more challenging roads/trails but there aren't any publicly accessible ones near me. The best I can do are some rough Missouri backroads which my old sedan could handle just fine so I don't really get to push my outback to the limit. I'm 5'11" and can sleep comfortably in the back with the seats folded down. If I move the front passenger seat all the way forward, I can fit 7 ft boards in the car without needing them to go between the two front seats. I've pulled utility trailers to move furniture with it too. Overall, I agree with everything in this video and I am glad I purchased the OBW.

    This is more of a personal love letter to your OBW than anything. I chose the non turbo for reliability, gas mileage. Yes a little sluggish, but the equation boils down to power costs money. Plenty of things I like about the OBW, but make it a bad daily driver, including the lift. I agree the powered lift gate is something I've never had, but comes in handy when you have your hands full, or pups jumping into their crates.

    Great review. I have a 2023 OBW. I pretty much have had the same experience as you. I also blacked out the copper but the film on my roof rails bubbled after the summer heat. I’ve had the wireless charger replaced twice and it still does nothing but heat up the phone. I have two issues that concern me long term. First, the paint is very delicate. It’s like it was painted with a sharpie. Second, I’ve had to replace the sway bar bushings twice. First time it had just 700km on the clock and the second time it was at 15,000km less than a year later. It’s otherwise a great all round vehicle. I’ve had it on a road trip to Newfoundland, it takes me wherever I need to go for my volunteer gig on a search and rescue team and it’s been awesome through two Canadian winters.

    The non-permanent seatbelt chime disable only works for the front 2 seats. If you try the 20 in 30 seconds method, make sure you keep trying if the first time fails because I did it identically three times with a timer and it only took hold after the 3rd. They also come back on after a head unit reset or battery disconnect. The rear seats need to be disabled through disconnecting the wires. A truly obnoxious system that Subaru implemented. When it chimes incessantly with increasing volume, it's no longer a friendly reminder. It's like I'm getting scolded by my own car. If it didn't void my warranty I would've ripped out the entire wire by now.
