Hi, my name is Kelly and I am a homeschooling mama to two kids aged 5 and 7. I am very eclectic when choosing materials to teach from and we adore learning in a unit style format (which we spend a good portion of our day on). I have a Bachelors Degree in Science focusing on the Arts so all things art is a huge part of what we do as well. Lastly I am obsessed with picture books, so you will see a ton of them on my channel both in my book hauls and in our various unit studies (which I like to post before and after videos of).

Big Thrift Book Haul
มุมมอง 4292 ปีที่แล้ว
Ahhhh, as we move into our third year of homeschool I am learning that a good used book is as good as a new one. We use our library extensively for our every day books, but for our unit studies I prefer to own them. That way we can go at our own pace without me having to scrabble to find books. So many great books in this haul!
Homeschool Craft Haul from Acorn and Twig
มุมมอง 2992 ปีที่แล้ว
Now that Christmas is over it is now the time of year when I start planning for the next school year. It takes me time to gather the things we want to use, and I like to be done by Mayish so I can relax a bit more over the summer knowing that we are all set for the next level of school. I do these hauls in waves and typically around themes, so I can attempt to keep track of what I am buying. Fo...

Christmas Advent Calendar
มุมมอง 1613 ปีที่แล้ว
Hi, I have had an advent calendar for the past few years for my now 6 and 8 year old's. We love celebrating Christmas with a daily small gift, treat, craft or just fun activity. I recorded this late November 30, last minute of course, and with Thanksgiving cooking burns still on my hands. Hello, I have been collecting Christmas books since before I was pregnant... I just love the season and beautiful picture books. Here I give a flip through of the books we have. As a tradition I gift each of my kids with a book, an ornament and a pair of holiday pajamas on Dec 1. Hope you enjoy our collection.
Chemistry Unit Early Elementary: Review
มุมมอง 3993 ปีที่แล้ว
Hello all, we just completed our Chemistry unit and we had a BLAST. I based this unit off the Usborne book Illustrated Elementary Science. I am really loving this book as a spine, and of course adding in beautiful picture books, projects, art and experiments. Both my children were really engaged in the simple projects we did. Hope you enjoy!
LOTS MORE BOOKS HAUL

Researching Math Books Library Haul
มุมมอง 6923 ปีที่แล้ว
I am working on three math units. And I thought I would bring you along on my impressions of these books. Each unit is: 1. adding, subtracting (review) and an intro to multiplication and division (this year) 2. time, weight, money and measure (next year) 3. fractions (the following year) I have pulled a bunch of books from my library to review them, see what might fit in our units so I can star...
Homeschool Haul Books and Resources
มุมมอง 6353 ปีที่แล้ว
We are using the Waldorf curriculum from Live Education this year. Many of these items are teacher resources or picture books for the main lessons we plan on doing such as Fibers & Weaving, Dwellings, Food and Farming. A math main lesson block on Time, Weight, Money and Measure. Two history main lesson blocks on Sumer Akkad and Hebrew Myths and Legends.

I feel like I missed something. 😂 Are you not homeschooling anymore?
Can you tell me what you used to make the flashcards?

Did you do a unit on continent europe? These other continent studies are all so great
Thank you for this video. I am researching to write these type of books. Right now I have picture books but my grandkids are nearly ready for the next levels. My kids also read Frog and Toad Are Friends. Anyway. Good job, mom.
The book Our Sunburnt Country is also well worth looking at
We love Little Bear because we like the storyline. I find that a lot of other readers the storylines are kind of lame. This one is also funny as well which my daughter likes. Basically one day I read the odd Pages issues even pages and then we switch the next day and we read one "chapter" usually about 3 days and then we move to the next.
I find the Biggie books funny and not many words. But too many hard words that are not de-codable.
One of the best LOE reviews! Extremely informative! TY so much! 🤗💕
We are eagerly waiting for your comeback. I really miss all the resources and keep searching for stuff, which you easily provided.
Great info! Thank you so much!
Do you still make content?
Look up Smart Tray. The are like Nuk.
Are you planning on returning to your channel? Your videos are very inspirational and I’m sure many miss you a lot.
We are going to be using TGATB Marine Biology unit next year. This was really great to give me ideas on how to expand the unit and make it our own. Love your Art and book recommendations. ❤️ You’re very creative with your unit studies. 😊
You have a wonderful collection
What a wonderful video. So many great ideas. This is very helpful. Thank you!
I just ordered two of these racks thank you! Everything I saw was over $50! These are great and can even be painted
How do you decide what parts to include in your units. Im planning a unit of ocean Giants and I absolutely love how you do your units studies. I've been watching several of your videos so I'm learning. But I would like to know the process in deciding what animals to focus on what regions. I'm trying to figure it out still lol 🙈 But I love the notebooking way of going about it. We do units style homeschooling and I don't do many worksheets. Thanks! Great videos
You remind me of @pepperandpine….I miss sooo much. 😢 Loving ur channel 🌸
Those are some pretty nice books!
I miss your videos! I hope you make some new ones soon!
I just discovered form drawing and then your video which is so helpful! I went to your blog to see if you had the pdf up for your lesson plan because I could really use that and it's not up yet. Do you think you'll be putting that up soon?
WoW! Fantastic resources. I know this video is a year old but how did this school year go using these books?
This was sooo helpful! Would love to see what units your family is learning about now!
O i just love maths
Please add links. I'd love to see the straw stars and solar system project when you do them.
You are my new favorite channel. I am an eclectic homeschooler, and I like to pull in Waldorf aspects like this.
Did you ever post your lesson plans on your blog for us to download?
Your books are so beautiful. Did you see an improvement in handwriting after doing form drawing? I would love a PDF if your simplified notes if your like to share them.
I do not see where this is a free download anymore.
Yeah, looks like it's no longer available.
Wow! You got ALL the readers! Have you ever checked out Dash Into Learning reader books? They are a bit pricy (a lot pricy), but I WANTED them my girls. They are really pretty books. We have barely started using them & my child really likes them, so they were worth it to me.
What is the site where you test your child reading level
So helpful. I keep going to Amazon and putting your suggestions in my cart. Thanks a bunch. We don't live near a beach any more so I need to find creative ways to find seashells. Any suggestions? The ones on Amazon are not as diverse as what your family/parents have.
I love your channel and the amazing variety of ideas and resources you share. Truly hope you able to come back to this channel some day.
So glad to know your 7 year old son enjoyed it! I've been wondering if I should get it because I wasn't sure my 7 year old son (almost 8) would like it or not. Great review! Thanks! 😀
Loved this!!! Thanks for the video
So glad you liked it, thanks Sarita!
Hi, I am very interested in doing your unit study...is there a link for the outline you used? Thanks
Hi Rolanda, as of right now I dont have a link. I have long covid so trying to focus on getting better. These videos are all I have.
@@homerogueschool8408 Thank you for responding. I hope you feel better soon!
native americans didnt live in tepees (well actually a few tribes did) they lived in different types of houses
Hi Stephanie, you are right. I was just covering SUPER simple concepts here to introduce a topic. Next year we are doing a whole unit on shelters in the US which will include different types of housing.
Hi! Have I missed your Africa review? If you're still looking at Africa and want some other great reads, you'll enjoy One Plastic Bag by Miranda Paul, Galimoto by Karen Lynn Williams and Babu's Song by Stephanie Stuve-Bodeen. The 3 picture books respectively tell beautiful stories of recycling and it was wonderful to talk to my 6yo son about needs v wants and character traits such as being content, industrious and thrifty. Our family read-aloud is an autobiography, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwamba & Bryan Mealer. I recommend reader discretion as it describes magic beliefs and rituals in Chapter 1. Will pre-read each chapter from hereon and it may be that the book will be read only for the benefit of my husband and I. In our unit study, we also explore saints/heroes and I chose to read about Sts Perpetua and Felicity as well as St Augustine of Hippo. For art, we found a good 'How to draw' TH-cam on The Pyramids of Giza and made a collage of Mt Kilimanjaro. I'm keen to see how your Morrocan art choice turned out.
Hi Maria. You haven't missed the Africa review. We are done with Africa but we will circle back and I noted your suggestions. I got long COVID and am just recovering now (I was sick for 2 months) so I am way behind on posting.
@@homerogueschool8408 Glad to hear you're feeling better and hope you enjoy the suggestions if you get to any. God bless!
I love that you take your time with the flip through! So helpful! Good book picks!
Awww thanks so much Stephanie!
This is incredible... how on earth do you plan and keep up with everything? How long do you think you spend homeschooling each day? We are starting kinder in the fall, planning on using Harbor+Sprout's monthly as a core, then BYL level 0, Foundations A for ELA, and trying to decide on math, then if we need a science! I have a home-based biz that I do have to work on several hours each day too, and it's already feeling like a lot :D BUT I am very excited and hope to homeschool long term! Can I buy your hand-me-downs lol?!
Hi Kelly! Welcome to homeschooling, its so much fun. It feels like alot in the beginning. Give yourself permission to start slow, ease into things, find your footing, and then add on top of it. Our homeschooling goes through an ebb and flow based on our life. Essentially we could possibly do the bare minimum day which is 1.5 to two hours. That will be ELA, math and maybe a game. Or if we are really into something, the weather isnt good, and we have zero plans for the day, then we may do 2 hours in the morning, 2 in the afternoon and then two in the evening (especially art and science which are our current favs). We do alot of our reading either at breakfast or at bedtime which helps our 'school' sit down at a table time be focused on other things. We LOVE foundations and BYL is amazing. I am not familiar with Harbor and Sprouts. Trying to run a business at the same time is hard but totally doable. You got this mama.
Thank you for sharing this video it was so helpful x
Glad it was helpful Wendy. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. Hope you love these.
The multiplication peg board looks awesome. Where did you get it?
Hi Patricia, we are already using it and loving it! The board is called the wooden Montessori board from amazon. Here is the link. www.amazon.com/Multiplication-Montessori-Preschool-Toys-Development/dp/B08CGVX3ZV/ref=asc_df_B08CGVX3ZV/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=459681441836&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5468351175241465718&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9009746&hvtargid=pla-971968023252&psc=1
Love this! Where do you find the print outs for your science notebooks?
Hi Michelle, thanks. I used three different resources for printouts for our journals. Interactive Notebook Science - www.christianbook.com/interactive-notebooks-science-grade-2/9781483831220/pd/831220?en=google&event=SHOP&kw=homeschool-0-20%7C831220&p=1179710&kw=&mt=&dv=c&event=PPCSRC&p=1018818&gclid=Cj0KCQiAmpyRBhC-ARIsABs2EAq09e87B4DPIxzhUtDlnxlzFmXVaZ7NLvFFhdTxuRLwokLyUwefLiYaAurVEALw_wcB Beginning Geography - www.christianbook.com/beginning-geography-grades-k-2/9781608236763/pd/236763?en=google&event=SHOP&kw=homeschool-0-20%7C236763&p=1179710&kw=&mt=&dv=c&event=PPCSRC&p=1018818&gclid=Cj0KCQiAmpyRBhC-ARIsABs2EAqwiZLyFO26e6WbnTfaKBTPAmgKlguiVMel0PJ9u5drfwBYACm43nYaAum8EALw_wcB And then several packs from the life science sections of 'A Dab of Glue will Due' www.adabofgluewilldo.com/science-activities/ Lastly I did grab a few free printouts and coloring sheets and things from various sources. I would just google something like 'shark smell' and find something that looked fun or cool. Hope that helps.
Love a great thrift haul. We read Yeh-Hsien a Chinese Cinderella during Chinese New Year. I've noticed some people do a Cinderella unit during Halloween as thats when the pumpkins are about.
OOOO Great idea. I love doing the Cinderella unit around Halloween! Thanks Helena for the idea.
Very nice. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Robin. Always fun to plan a new unit out!
