I learned Kekchi when I was living in a community in Rio Dulce, Izabal. It was almost 38 years ago and sadly I almost forgot because of lack of practice. But the native Guatemalan languages are very nice and useful to learn. So, good for you!!!

As an Asian, I always saw that each country in asia or Europe has its own language which is indigenous to its own country. Still those countries (including mine) are so developed economically. I wonder how can demolishing indigenous language and culture(which has been the most advanced for centuries) be beneficial for any nation? In my country we have twenty two official languages. Though most schools and colleges teach in English, it is also compulsory for us to learn to read and write our local language also(the local language differs in different parts of our country). Each of our local languages has a rich literature and has ancient roots. Strong roots make a strong tree. As a kid I wondered how so many countries of latin America spoke the same language?Later I got to know about their history. I respect Spanish language, but I feel sad that the world could not get enough knowledge about those indigenous cultures and the true potential of their civilization.Lots of love to you and to all the different cultures of the world. Lots of love to Guatemala.I would love to learn a maya language someday.

My dad didn't give a heck about his culture, His ethnic group is ki'che' mayans and his parents never taught him the language, Go figure he never even taught me Spanish. Imagine having to learn about your culture through the internet, To have mayan Warrior blood coursing through your veins but not understanding it

Chipa o Holon a todos JAJAJAJA I work with Guatemalans they only teach me the bad shit lmao But the also tell me that kiche is just one of the dialects spoken in guatemala there’s actually a bunch. The Guatemalans I work with most of them learned Spanish to come to the us and some don’t even speak Spanish and some don’t even understand another bc the other speaks a different dialect
