The re-vitalization of these roads (Imo State) is good and commendable, but certain standards have to be followed. The most important should have been the provision of water tankers to spray the construction routes with water prior to the excavation of the soil, so as to reduce the dust that accompanies any road construction. As we have seen along Owerri - Mbaise - Umuahia road axis, nothing of that sort was done, or has been done. The construction company polluted the atmosphere with dust. Residents along these construction sites/routes inhale enormous amount of dust, and this could, and would, in the near future cause respiratory diseases like Asthma, COPD and other lung diseases. This mode of construction cannot happen in Germany where these construction companies come from. The health of the people should be of utmost importance to the company, the State's Ministry of Works and the awarder(s) of the contract. Unfortunately, whoever awards a contract in Imo State and Nigeria is only interested in his/her 10% "kick back", and not the necessary steps followed to accomplish the contract.
