Handmade boots - the proper way with Wootten Boots Australia | WAMCAST #0085
we bring you the 4th of our 10 or so Australia podcasts. We sat down with Jess and Krys (and Quincey) of Wootten. Cord Wainers, Bootmakers, and leather craftspeople this tight nt family unit re kindled Jess's Father trade and have built it into the premier boot maker in Australia.
Supplying around 400 pairs of boots a year from their small shop with a small tight night team including them and just a couple more they have undertook a huge task for all the right reasons.
Check out their story!
Enjoy!

A roadside stop where David Graham found his passion | WAMCAST #0084
มุมมอง 10428 วันที่ผ่านมา
Our Australia trip continued through Geelong and Ashmore. Stumbling across Ashmore Arts. We have 3 cracking podcasts to bring you from here. The first of those David Graham artistic blacksmith. This was an unexpected find, but when you see a big workshop in the distance with a 500 weight power hammer and a 60s/70s bush body sat outside you know someone interesting is inside that shop. Kate and ...
World traveller, architect, and now prominent furniture maker, Bryan Cush | WAMCAST #0083

Bryan Cush is a repeat offender here at We Are Makers. First featured in Edition One of our print magazine. Then the first of our instagram lives when we were piloting the idea for a podcast. So when Kate and I found out he had, just weeks prior to our visit, moved to the city of Ballarat we knew we had to visit. Bryan has never stayed in one spot to long, until settling in Australia to finish ...
From the earth beneath my feet, Steph Wallace, Potter | WAMCAST #0082

The first of our Australian tour podcasts, and get this, this one wasn't event planned. Steph was the amazing potter that made the plates for our table at the great takeaway, an event put on by the creative city of Ballarat. From here we got talking and we Kate and I had the pleasure of sharing a table with her at the Mayoral dinner a few nights after we initially met. From there we agreed we w...

Thanks for capturing such an engaging and important stories of what it's really like as an independent maker, I hope it inspires more people to recognise the excellent value that comes with buying directly from the craftsperson. well done guys.

Jack and Kate🙏👏Whenever I question what I'm doing studying Gold and Silversmithing at 53yo I watch an episode of yours to keep on track. This one was a cracka because that sound of tinkering David heard and followed that day is a very familiar story. Something that you love so much you can't ignore. Such a great interview wonderful and honest and yes metal is just amazing. Anyway thank you again. Keep going. !!!Thanks to David too.

Excellent stuff. More like it please. I've been fascinated by paper since I was a kid and as an auld geezer I'm definitely a SABLE when it comes to paper. I want to make some before I shuffle off. I visited Wookey Hole paper mill in the early 80s, what a magical place. (Translation Stash Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy - learned that one yesterday from a fountain pen enthusiast. The pen is mightier but you need something to write on) Write On!

It is so interesting to me how similar a lot of our journeys have been. I can completely identify with literally breaking down and crying when I thought that the run was over and I wasn't selling anything for a few months. Overcoming the fear of failure and having to learn everything about marketing and sales. The tons of work that go into everything with seemingly nothing happening and then, all of a sudden you're overwhelmed with too much all at once. Loved this conversation and found myself feeling so much relief that I am not alone in the things I have been experiencing. So much unknown and at the same time so much feels real and right about it all. Again, thank you for this!
