Well done on your thorough research and use of stunning images of a truly mythical structure. I was transfixed by the facade after seeing Xanadu, though unfortunately I didn’t make it to L.A. before its demise. You have provided the best and most detailed brief history of the Pan Pacific, so relevant for architectural buffs and those with personal memories. Thank you.

I have a picture of myself about 2 1/2 years old coming down the steps with my mother. I was always told I got my first haircut there. But I always wondered why since my mom was a hairdresser. And… I couldn’t remember there being a hair salon. Oh my gosh! Now I know why! Thank you so much for making this video!

Macy's has many historic properties that were once upscale local chains. Some they have kept, many downtown buildings have closed, like Riches in Atlanta. Wanamaker's in Philadelphia with it's historic pipe organ, no longer being maintained. The retail business is tough right now and Macy's is not what it once was.

It is so bittersweet for me to watch this video. When I was a teenager in the late 1960's and early 1970's I lived just 3 blocks away on Gardner St. I went to schools in the area. My friend and I would often walk to the Pan Pacific Auditorium and it was a truly beautiful bldg. We were young giggly girls and got to know the door man that worked there. He would let us in for free sometimes. I don't remember his name and I'm sure he is no longer alive. I just remember he was such a nice man and very tall. We moved away from there to another state around 1973 and it is sad to know of this fire that brought the end to this historical site. It was a wonderful place.

I liked the Bowl best when it was just a (half) bowl. All the speaker installations and tubes and whatnot makes it look too 'busy'. I like the simplicity of the old bowl.

What a terrible waste of such beautiful architecture. To let it go abandoned and into decay and then burned down. 😢

My friend and I rode our bikes there from Westchester because he really loved Xanadu so of course we had to go see it in person. Is a day I will never forget. We actually Climbed up to one of the upper levels and went in even though we weren’t supposed. I even have Polaroid pictures of the inside that I took that day. Yes I still have them. Thank you so much for sharing this video with us.

Thank you so much for this recent tour of my much beloved Bullock’s. There are so many things I can tell you about this place and I want to say that you did a beautiful job in recognizing it in all its glory past and present. I dined in the tea room way back when it’s a precious memory as I dined there with my mother. There were models walking through the room displaying the latest fashions too. It was elegant but one could walk in after shopping dressed as you are. The elevators had operators and I can still hear one announcing the floor as it arrived. There was a beauty shop too with the best hair stylists. I did work there when I was a teenager in the gift department and still used an old fashioned cash register. I’m so glad to see that they have kept and beautifully maintained most of the original architecture and glamour. You are right to suggest a visit as the graceful ambiance and furnishings will indeed take you back in time.

I want to stop by here. Grew up in Southern California. The style is interesting, a mix of Modernism and Googie/Space Age As someone who was born in California it’s easy for me to drop into the whole “everything old gets torn down,” but there are a LOT of gems in the state.

❤-Memories! -this is completely memorable for me because I was 22 and I was a waiter in the bullocks tea room on the third floor in my early and mid 20s from 1988 through the mid 1990s when it finally closed thank you for the memories. I remember walking around that whole area on my break or after I got off work and shop, and it was a wonderful tea room that served a lot of women & their tea sandwiches-I miss those days in the 80s and early 90s when we served delicious warm cheese strata on the menu and pop overs-and it was the only place/ Also Tuna Nicoise in the L.A area where you could have popovers with your tea or as the English would call Them-Yorkshire pudding with my server job at bullocks. I put myself through Pasadena city College those days in the 80s and 90s. And let’s not forget these ladies would enjoy an early midmorning fashion shows almost every day folks and the women would have their lunch as they peruse through the models latest apparel from Givenchy and Balenciaga-thank you for this and thank you for reminding me of good memories working at the Bullock Pasadena tearoom. It was like the 1950s/1960s in there and I was glad to have been part of it !

Thank you so much for this, Merch! Had NO idea this place was still in existence! You did some great work here per the overall history and tour of this lovely place! Both happy AND surprised (given the current tenant's more recent business history) they've kept most of detail intact - though they really should have kept the original signage on that wall! If i ever find myself out that way - i'm definitely going to have to make a visit to the Pasadena Bullock's/Macy's for sure!!! ^,,,,^

I get it but but they should restore the small 'Bullocks Pasadena' signage at the the door rather than leave the open holes... everyone knows its a Macy's but that stainless steel sign would really add to the nostalgia/ museum side of the building.
