GWD Webinar Sex & Law the Future for Women 21 11 24
The ‘For Women Scotland Ltd v The Scottish Ministers' Appeal is taking place in the UK Supreme Court on 26 - 27th Nov. 2024 During this webinar we hope to take you on a legal journey to understand the background to the Appeal and what is at stake for all women across the UK, as the very definition of “woman” is being adjudicated.
Emma Bateman from the Green Women's Declaration talked to guest speakers Sally Wainwright from Lesbian Persistence and Paula Boulton from Lesbian Labour about the legal tangle between the Equality Act 2010 and the Gender Recognition Act in which ‘sex’ and ‘gender’ are terms that are used interchangeably.
Sally explained the background to the appeal and gave participants an insight into some of the anomalies and contradictions within the legislation.
Paula gave a moving account of the realities of being a lesbian in a largely heterosexual society, and how lesbian culture and community is being eroded with the loss of women-only spaces.
Sally and Paula have been involved in the group collectively known as the lesbian interveners, who have submitted additional arguments for consideration by the Supreme Court. Because if the definition of a woman includes men with a Gender Recognition Certificate, then being a lesbian will not just be the love that dare not speak its name but the love that has had its very meaning taken away.
Sally Wainwright
In 1988 Sally co-created the Deckchairs Collective, which organised Scottish Lesbian Gatherings to support lesbians following Section 28. She never imagined that by 2024, she'd need to be involved in setting up Lesbian Persistence or instigate a lesbian intervention in FWS's Supreme Court case, because the erasure of lesbians is never ending. She is the co-editor of Women's Rights, Gender Wrongs: the global impact of gender-identity ideology.

Paula Boulton
Paula has been fighting for women's rights since she led a walk out at school over the right to wear trousers over 50 years ago. She was active in the Women's peace movement in the 80s . She co-founded Lesbian Labour in 2020 and Lesbian Fightback in 2021. She is a musician and playwright.

Great summary. Thank you. And really important to hear the lesbian perspective. Ridiculous we have got here of course.
If these exceptions became mandatory instead of permissible wouldn't this whole thing dissipate? What use is a GRC if it's not granting any access? So we could stop issuing any more GRCs and watch this whole GR nonsense slowly wither.
Why the hell does this garbage appear in my feed? Haven’t we had enough of “green women” in She-hulk?
If Green Party members are leafletting or campaigning in their local area, I wonder how many of us are very nervous about being questioned by the public about this particular issue? About where "we" stand. And what an adequate response should be - when the party is so clearly divided on the topic, and there are so many undemocratic procedures involved? How are we expected to explain what we stand for? How can the public trust us to do what's best for the majority, when the party is run by a minority who have lost the thread of what "Green" actually means? We are all tarnished now by association. I'm very glad I haven't been questioned on the topic by a poverty-stricken single mother working at two jobs.
get back to the kitchen sink
These surgeons must be getting filthy rich
Really good podcast - clear, well argued and very informative. Thanks 👍
I'm very late getting to this podcast, Excellent discussion. Sarah should not have been harassed about the pronoun thing, Her reasoning re not alienating sections of her potential audience was sound, I used to be pretty pragmatic on the pronoun issue. I take it a bit more seriously now. My position is that pronouns are a social courtesy, not a legal requirement. However, respect is a two-way street. I don't think I'm required to be respectful towards a person who is disrespectful towards me.
Excellent podcast. Still, the BBC refuses to cover this scandal. Shame on them.
Really excellent discussion. There is a real problem in society with getting wrong doers to be accountable. The institutions that allowed Rotherham/Rochdale, never mind the perpetrators, are very rarely held to account. How society changes this I don't know but all the people selling the T cult nonsense should be held accountable for their harmful and dangerous practices.
Great to see Mia on the show!
Slight error: €25 million Europe-wide, not billions. I see that was corrected in the notes.
I’m a former NZ Green expelled for saying men can never be women. The GP here is going through the same craziness - it’s devastating for the movement. Thanks 🙏 for your courage in standing against this takeover by gender extremism
Unfortunately I have not heard of these ladies. Just found you.pleased you are for us women and young girls safety in everything for women's and girls safe spaces .
Well done for doing these webinars . It exposes thr madness that has infected the GP polit bureau. I see Adam Pugh a Green Party candidate calls for abolition of the police. Seems the GP is now lunatic crèche.
Very best wishes to Alison for her success as an Independent candidate in Sheffield. Very sad to hear what she has endured from a party that has lost its way in so many ways.
Well done Alison - I can empathise with the Kafkaesque situation you have experienced and you're up against when you won't go along with other's delusional ideation..
Amazing , the Green Party has behaved abominably towards Alison , bullying , if they were a business they couldn’t have dragged this on and on, 20 months later this is still on going and many of us have resigned purely on Alison’s treatment .
Fascinating to hear Alison’s full history of campaigning. What a courageous, inspirational woman! The Green Party does not deserve women like her with integrity - this is their loss. But ultimately a win for the people of Sheffield, who I’m sure will appreciate her continuing authentic commitment to them.
Such a moving discussion, very well worth watching.
Interesting conversation. Stay strong!
Thanks for posting this. I missed the webinar so it’s great to be able to catch up.
Is there anywhere I can read about what on earth happened here? I don't follow the Greens, and clicked on this only because it appeared on my homescreen and had Simon Edge in it. Would like to know more.
I left the Greens after 30 years because of the capture of gender ideology, I’m in Australia but feel free to ask me anything
I honestly don't see how the leadership of the Green Party imagine that this bugf*ck crazy, anti-science, anti-women, anti-reality BS is a vote winner. It's NOT.
Thank you dear friends x
Its no different at Surrey Heath Borough council. The Liberal Democrats are trying to use the code of conduct to stop me criticising their support of gender ideology. The monitoring officer is complaint towards the Liberal Democrats. SHBC is captured. Despite the gains in the courts, institutional capture is still going strong.
Very glad to find you. I was just about to join the GP three weeks ago after listening to one of your leaders on Any Questions. Then I learnt of her views on transgender. But if there is a wing of the GP that still maintains that biological sex is real, I feel I can join you. Thank you.
There certainly is a fightback against Gender Ideology - it is pretty dirty, and Gender Critical members, women in particular, are being suspended and expelled from the Party, but we will continue to stand for girls, women and the scientific reality that is supposed to be at the heart of the party.
I listened a day ago to the Green Party leader on Radio 4 Any Questions and was incredibly impressed. On the strength of her outstanding contribution, I had decided to vote Green at the next election. How disappointing to discover that she is as mad on the transgender issue as some of the others. But I am very pleased to hear there are some women in the Green party standing strong in the face if this madness. I really feel that the country has gone mad. I saw all this in the Labour Party and despaired. Turning to the Greens was in the hope of finding sanity. Anyway, thank you, real Green women, for fighting this ludicrous battle.
Jude English was subsequently suspended, partly due to some of her words in this webinar. The timing of the suspension was to deliberately make her loss her employment as a councillor. She has been a very popular councillor, winning successive elections, the timing meant she was excluded from her Green Party local ward electoral list.
These "Green" transactivists are evil. They don't give a damn about anyone but themselves and their misogynistic authoritarian cult dogma. I could never have imagined the Green party could sink so low and get so badly off track: having started as "The People's party" which became the Ecology party (when I joined) before renaming itself Green: as the first Green party in the world. So many members have already left due to the gender madness: as "who can believe the Greens about climate science if it rejects biological sex". Such a shame Jude English was such an early casualty as GPW co-chair: that she therefore also lost her job as Councillor is unforgiveable. Thank heavens for members like Sarah Phillimore NOT having left. I doubt the party is rescuable from its regressive "progressive" gender delusions, but it's still worth a try: and organised resistance will be the only way to make rescue possible. The gender-brainwashed Young Greens in particular have far too much power in determining policy: openly committed to expelling any member with GC views. Lawfare is going to be a very expensive way to fight them. And if procedural issues are the only grounds for successful action, the essential point of the party is lost. The "woke" "critical social justice" premise of aggressive transactivism -- dividing the world into those with, and without, power and "privilege", and cultivating an aggressive victim mentality -- is incompatible with the party's former central principles of cooperation in preference to conflict. Their favourite manipulative, narcissistic ploy of DARVO -- Deny, Accuse, Reverse Victim and Offender -- is already tearing the party apart.
Unforgiveable.
TERF ideology doesn't match to Green politics, everywhere in Europe where Green Parties are. If you want TERF politics, you have to join conservative or right wing parties, just that simple.
Jude English is now suspended from attempting to get reelected as a Green councillor.
Unforgiveable.
Call for a review of RR530.
Conference is the problem. Dysfunctional , undemocratic and unaccountable.
In this podcast lindsay shows how the critical social justice activists describe themselves as a virus. th-cam.com/video/Kilz4-SxLlw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=TS1NRoL78_fS_lsd
The Green has an incurable virus. The virus of critical social justice. I saw this infect the party first hand. I left the party as it's irredeemable.
Interesting point about members being whipped into agreeing with gender policy.
Andy Wightman was whipped, on the Johann Lamont "six words" amendment ... it's why he left the party in fact.
Words can not explain how upset and disgusted this has made me.
Thank you for posting this replay -- really great speakers. And for reminding us of ways we can get more involved in supporting outspoken members and influencing GP policy at various levels.
Sorry I didn't make it on the night but really pleased to find the webinar posted here. (I need to learn how to manage my phone alarms or similar better, 😊)
Utterly disgusting. I used to be a member and was even delegated to one national conference. NEVER NEVER NEVER would I ever join it again.
th-cam.com/video/TSgmxndjtu4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=nhIy19ZYWSBRaIR4
Left wing feminists must own gender ideology. This is the logical conclusion of left wing gender studies in the US. This is a left wing feminists frankenmonster and its now attacking their creator. I get the impression left wing feminists feel they can take control of this gender frankenmonster. They can't . Gender feminists see gender ideology as the final solution to the "patriarchy". This ideology on the ground is being pushed by women not men. Gender ideology is eating old school feminism alive.
These are really lovely women. I am really disgusted at Green parties treatment of women. Women left the Green Party New Zealand because they were scolded for defending female rights. One was an 80 year old who was in the party since inception in the seventies.. Recently many Green people including Green MPs applauded when Let Women Speak women with Kellie Jay (Posie Parker) were violently mobbed in Auckland NZ. I also consider the Green Party NZ ageist in its comments to women and men.... despite having much in common with Green voters I would never attend a Green Party meeting or rally as I feel totally unsafe as a woman due to my view that women have rights that still need protecting.. Delia Morris
Good luck to all of you brave people. Stay strong!
If the Greens don't even know what a woman is, I'm not going to trust them on the environment or anything else.
Horrifying accounts of what's going on in the Green Party - every GP member needs to see this.
