15th July 2024 Tour of my cutting garden on the Cotswold Edge, Gloucestershire UK
It's been a busy couple of months and I've cut thousands of stems already for weddings and events. Take a look to see how the second succession of annuals are progressing, how the sweet peas have grown, the perrenials are getting into their stride and see how the dahlias have fared with sluggageddon!
Biennials sown last month have been transplanted and growing on into bigger pots. The weather has been very up and down this season so far with just the odd warm day rather than a stretch of settled weather. Sit back and enjoy a little tour of the garden in mid July 2024.

11th June 2024 Tour of my cutting garden on the edge of the Cotswolds UK

May and June have been exceptionally busy not just with gardening but with floristry and lots of weddings. Despite filming this in June it's taken a few weeks to edit and publish. In this video, the biennials are starting to get removed and replaced with spring sown annuals which are still quite small. There are hundreds more plants waiting in the wings and the last succession of annuals have b...

Has summer finally arrived? Let's hope so. Most of the autumn sown annuals are about to pop and hundreds of spring sown ones which are waiting in the wings are potted on in this video. Some of the biennials are in full bloom. They and are so worth sowing in June to get that early flush of colour and scent the following year. The hazel and willow arch is finally finished and sweet peas have been...

Wowzer! What a month March was! So mild that some flowers are 3-4 weeks ahead of schedule, and soooo wet. Gloucestershire experienced double the normal (whatever that is) rainfall expected in March. Anyways, do take a look and see how the garden has changed and coped. The greenhouse is filling up with seedlings rapidly and dahlias have been pre-sprouted for cuttings. Don't forget to hit subscri...

Wet, wet ,wet pretty much sums up last month. That being said it hasn’t stopped me getting underway with seed sowing hardy annuals. Tune in to see colour starting to appear with some beautiful narcissi, primroses and muscari. Seed sowing is underway and autumn sown hardy annuals are hardening off ready for planting out soon. Listen to the birds singing in the background and see how I give them ...
Harvesting and Saving Flower Seeds on a small scale for fun
มุมมอง 935 หลายเดือนก่อน
Seed saving is something I have pooh poohed in the past. However, the hot summer of 2022 encouraged everything to flower and set seed in record time and the conditions were perfect for harvesting the crisp flower heads and means it's possible to save hundreds if not thousands of seeds. In 2023 the saved seed I sowed yielded pretty good germination and growing results and encouraged me to save m...

It's the calm before the storm - the day after filming there was another 24 hours of pouring rain and high winds. There have been a few casualties in the garden (to be expected) but fingers crossed there are plenty of hardy annuals waiting in the wings to join what has already overwintered. The snow drops are at their peak and other spring bulbs are starting to show some colour. Seed sowing has...

It's been a slow start to the year; I struggle with the dark mornings and evenings. Gradually I'm getting my mojo back. Unlike last year, I have lost very few plants for botrytis this year. Neglect seems to suit them well. Most autumn sown annuals have also survived the winter so far. Lots of potting on to do and I've even started a bit of seed sowing, mainly for the benefit of the Seed to Bloo...
Potting on Autumn Sown Antirrhinum (snapdragon)
มุมมอง 1027 หลายเดือนก่อน
As I gradually come out from hibernation 🦔, a bit of potting on is just the ticket to get me back into the swing of things. Like many people, I’m at my happiest, pootling in the potting shed 🏡 with the radio on or listening to a podcast and here I am doing just that. I sowed several small batches of antirrhinum (snapdragon) in mid September, transplanted them into 40 cell modules and left them ...
Wedding floristry : behind the scenes
มุมมอง 2307 หลายเดือนก่อน
I shot these videos before Lily and Ed’s late April wedding to demonstrate what goes on behind the scenes. A florist’s wedding prep’ can take hours over several days and the amount of practical work should not be underestimated (and as for the admin!!*). The actual floristry is one of the last things to be done but so much can be organised and prepared beforehand to help everything run smoothly...

The 12th and final monthly video of 2023! A wet, wet few weeks and a couple of nights of frost at -4C means it really is a wrap for 2023. How have the hardy annuals fared? What state are the dahlias in? and what of the ranunculus? Grab a coffee and take a look and see. Did you know that the video has subtitles when viewed on a desktop. I hope it helps. See you in 2024!

Please watch on a pc or tablet to see subtitles: After a very wet couple of weeks, the garden is looking a bit soggy. Work with fresh flowers on any scale is not possible. I've started to clear the remaining annuals, and have made a start planting hardy annuals for an early start next year and there are plenty that are coming on nicely in the greenhouse. Ranunculus have been pre-sprouted and ar...

There's plenty to tell you about in this month's garden tour. Take a look to see how the garden coped with a heat wave in September followed by some high winds. The garden has loved the soggy August. Just as we thought autumn was setting in, we are poised for a heat wave. It's lovely to see how your garden is blooming. Spring has definitely sprung, in spite of all the rain. I look forward to your videos but not the accompanying music! It's so unnecessary. I had to turn off your commentary and read the subtitles. Just you, telling us about your garden is perfect.

Good tour! Spring is clearly starting there. I want to grow some hellebores, too. Do you use them for cut flowers? I worked as a florist for decades but I don’t remember seeing them used. That’s how I start seeds, too: many seeds in a small pot but then I really, really enjoy pricking out. Looking forward to following your garden this year!

    • @CotswoldCountryFlowers
      @CotswoldCountryFlowers 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes, Pam, Hellebores can be used in floristry but best to wait until they are mature with an obvious seed pod in the middle, they will condition much better then. Sometimes they also need searing.

My son was drafted and in the army for 2 months but has since been released. We're dealing with a ruthless terrorist organisation who exploits its own people as shields.
