Starting is really easy, the rookie league is a great thing, playing against other newcomers, and the tutorials are really good to start also. So much to learn :-)

I don't want to have the players thinking about next year, & mess up their playoff vibe. 😄 On the other hand, maybe that'd get a free-agency-audition performance out of them? 🤔😝 My 2c, I'd like the cuts to happen sometime after the flip. That way there's a chance to trade them, + you get to see the attribute changes. I don't want to do the trades before the deadline, if there's any chance of the team making the playoffs.

[beanballer43] Re playing out of position , in a harder position : I have situations where the SS or 2B has aged into RA in the 50-60 range, but have 2 or 3 CFs in the 85-100 range, & (haven't been able to get trades) maybe with better bats & EN, so play the #2 or #3 CF in those positions. Also have/have had extra 2B, so played them at SS , or extra 3B , & put the #2 in CF.

Calling Cap Anson a "black and white guy" is probably something he'd fight you over...

I would support a one time move in the minors for players to move to any position. It's annoying to have a guy with a huge AR but be complete garbage with range (and in GL) in which the only real place he can play is DH. Would be a good catcher under the current system. Catcher's do eventually need an overhaul though, you should be able to put a non-catcher at catcher without a lot of passed balls occurring. RIght now you can stick guys OOP at C without much of a detriment defensively.

I'd say 20-25% are moving to a harder position sitewide, because I see a lot of newer users having guys like C move to 2b or 1b more to SS maybe beacuse they aren't aware of the OOP penalties and want to play the guys with better bats.

control is absolutely underrated. If you face a team with a lot of high DI players and you have a pitcher with a sub 70 CO, you are in trouble.

If you can only be great at one rating: BA for hitters, and SY for pitchers.

CN? High CN/high SL is something I like . If I have a 95+ SL , I want high CN, but avg-to slightly below-avg DI. Want that guy swinging the bat, not trying for BB. High CN, but below-avg BA = +avg GDP . ;(

[beanballer43] Don't know if it's still as relevant, but....... back in the day in Beta, made a trade [w/ hudson_hawke ......fond memories/ best wishes ;) ] for an aging SS, w/ 89 RA, at EXACTLY mid-season . Moved my 55RA SS to 3B, w/ his effective ratings same as the existing 3B's actual ratings. [Better bat, so why it happened]. Made no other change. The staff total ERA was > 0.50 lower by season's end. :) That taught me the value of defense. ;) ... which I had given short-shrift to , previously.

Good stuff here. I like you guys diving into ratings and player make-ups a bit for newer owners. Great video and addition to the collection.

Utility categorization is needed. I have mixed thoughts on the catcher restrictions. I think in the LM you should be able to move someone to C. Once AR, maybe then lock it. However at the lower minor levels, it should be possible imho. One thing I think that hurts "clarity" is that there are two different aspects to it. Playing out of position vs changing position. The deeper part of this conversation is salary manipulation by moving players to different positions. Take that high defensive 1B who makes 10M, and move them to CF and now they make 7M. That's the crap that I get turned off by. Recently did it, and felt dirty.

Bob Walk was the name that came to mind for the Pirates. Pretty average overall but was an All Star in '88 and had an ERA of 3.21 from '84-'88. I think to expand on Clone's idea is maybe having something like the College Football series has with "athletes" where you have guys who did whatever before the draft and as prospects they have ratings for multiple things. Guys in HS Football play QB but then transition to RB/WR and it happens in baseball too where guys like Aaron Judge pitched in high school and then moved to the outfield in the minors and never pitched again. Those 34 RA shortstops who played shortstop in HS because they were the coach's kid moving to a position they can actually play or a guy like Isiah Kiner-Falefa who caught and is now an above average fielder at SS and a top 3B defender.

Long time ago, in Beta, I got a clear demonstration of the value of range. At exactly midseason, I traded for an aging, but 89RA SS . He replaced my 59? RA SS. No other change. The Team ERA [total season] was 0.50 lower than when the trade was made. :0

To get a double play, you have to allow base-runners, that's probably why that matters so little.

I had a team with max stadium for years and years that always finished in last place. The first season after I adjusted it to average, we won the WS.

It's good to know that, with a little gumption, a lot of effort, and more money to spend on players than anyone else, you can still make it to a WS!

I did like the ability to see all ratings and numbers on one screen, rather than having to click through desired data. The graphics are big and chunky and look similar to a video game. Maybe if the graphic size was scaled down some it would give a more clean look. I trust in the vision and process to get there.

Clearly this is all fake. The flag stops blowing. Then restarts. Yet Zubaz's beard doesn't ever move. Very suspect.

It would be nice to see a weekly recap of player leaders across my franchise. Best hitter/pitcher of the week. Career milestones, playoff recaps, if possible top 10 lists of players across your franchise (Franchise all-time leaders, one list of leaders for all of your owned teams in your franchise). Players that have won any awards in the past week, best POTG performances, players that you have owned that have entered the Hall of Fame.

Pete Rose bet on games that not only did he play in but also managed. He had direct control over the games.

deserving, but one of the most overrated players of all time. Because he was Pete Rose he was able to hang on WELL past his prime to break a record. In 6 of his last 7 years he was a FAR BELOW league average player with a -119 RAA.

Hardcap leagues would benefit form more players created with lower dollar amounts. Esspecially those leagues with the 50M cap. Allows the option for having more guys that are under 1 m on a roster to build your team, rather than everyone bidding on the larger guys and playing multiple scubs because there arent enough of those lower tier guys. Maybe a commish setting that could create players between certain dollar amounts.

with a hard cap , you cant develop a team because the salary cap is too low. You need a hard cap with a salary cap for your minors also. This is not realistic baseball... you cant develop talent.

great update...my thoughts still think those scrubs should be 50K....no zero priced players on the roster
