Glenn Gould plays Bach Contraponctus I (Organ)
I turn to Glenn Gould when the world makes me feel like my soul is bleeding out of my body ... the best for stanching it ... <3
It defies my imagination he wrote this and much more with a quill pen i.e. a feather.

Stunning!
The music takes you on a trip. Astonishing . Timeless……….
Glenn was much more than the piano genius that he was. Glenn was a senstive ,thoughtful soul immersed in reality and loved by the world!
I didn't know about these Toccatas. I know a whoke lot of Bach! But Toccatas! What in Sam Hell is a Toccata? A Wild Improvisation.up- tempo and no rules- Absokute Freedom to Play!
IL CANADESE MI E' SEMPRE PIACIUTO POCO...MA CON L'ORGANO...ANCORA MENO...

*This* is what I’ve needed in my life ❤ ! Thank you ❤ !

It interesting that no matter what one’s position in life, artistic field, JS Back reigns supreme around the world, there’s just something about his work that connect us together, that transcends languages and culture, inspires each artist to add their unique touches when playing…in my opinion, but what’s most people who listens to Bach, may not realize, he created these masterpieces before the piano was invented, for the harpsichord and organ, timeless, people will be listening to his works long after we are gone, like previous generations….Peace !

🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Contrapunctus IV on organ goes hard.
The last Bach fugue sounds like it has very much Mozartian characteristics in it.

Elle envoie fort certe 330d 😎🔥🔥
Superbo chi aveva qualche minimo dubbio su Glen Gould eccolo servito!! Unico!
Elle marche vraiment bien 👍
His humming in the background is iconic
how does the gearbox hold because the limits of the gearbox are 530nm and how does the engine and clutch hold because that's alot of power for stock clutch
Where you found then thé gearbox is limited to 530nm? Clutch and engine is normal, 40.000km after remap. Gearbox also for now. I think my torque is in tolérance if its True for gearbox
I’m e39 owner whit 300 hp and 700nm, manual gearbox can hold that, automatic, only from e60/90 and mayby e46 last facelift where was little changes at gearbox, from 2003y
Here’s the genius🌊🌊🌊
I forgot to mention that this Casavant organ was destroyed in a fire a short while after Gould did his recording, then replaced by an organ from a minor builder. But! At the time this Casavant was built, they also installed another North German style organ (basically a sister to the organ Gould played here) in a church only a few blocks away, in Our Lady of Sorrows on Bloor just west of Royal York in Toronto. This small (25 stop) organ is just incredible for Bach, and is probably one of the best Bach style organs in North America. So much so that Peter Hurford, one of the greatest Bach organists in the last century, flew all the way from England just to record on it. Here is an example: th-cam.com/video/RJ2Hfdawf5Y/w-d-xo.html
The Casavant at Our Lady of Sorrows is indeed incredible for Bach and Peter Hurford's Bach recordings are fantastic. He may also have recorded his Buxtehude there as well. Thank you for this added context. I will miss the Organix concert series held there now that it has stopped.
@@Akab6 Organ students from the Royal Conservatory still regularly practice there.
I just read it was replaced by another Casavant. Newer, so maybe something got lost from the early 1900s original organ?
@@SuzeeQ99 It was built in 1965. I believe it was refurbished recently. They would never replace it. Hurford considered it one of the greatest North German organs in the WORLD.
Bravo
I like the darker mood of this work.
Late last night I fell asleep listening to TH-cam cycling thru its many offerings of Bach's Art of The Fugue's innumerable renditions. Somehow I opened my eyes as Glenn was playing it alternately on piano and organ (an entire album of his I never heard of). I was left sleepless for about an hour or so thinking how this man was able to not just make the organ sound like that, but how fresh and distinctively enjoyable he made that monumental work sound. When I hear Bach everything falls into place, when I hear Glenn it all fits perfectly.
Never heard of that. The organ album I have is frustratingly incomplete!
In my twenties, thirties I used to find Glenn's playing insufferable because of his humming and grunting and off-key sing-alongging. But I have unwittingly discovered a priceless level of intimate introspection and delicate touch that sets him apart from hundreds of players before or after. No wonder so many critics and fellow musicians say of him that they don't hear the particular composer but Glenn himself. He was definitely a lovable capable scholarly weirdo.
less of the weirdo! If he was "normal" he would be incapable of this exquisite playing!!
On the organ, Glenn is also fantastic. Nice performance I didn't know before
Bravissimo!
Glenn Gould understood Bach's music better than anyone else, interpreted it most correctly, and gave an outstanding performance. I was completely mesmerized by the excellence of his playing and even felt ecstasy.
I swear you can hear Gould humming the fugue subject at 33:02
Ads breaking in the middle?? Are you KIDDING me?? Nobody has the right to monetize this music!!
It's not me Mr.

There is irony in Gould playing these Toccata's at all, since he considered them the worst keyboard compositions of Bach. Gould excoriated the pieces claiming they were overly repetitive and in need of the "red pen" (to paraphrase). So, in some sense, it's a minor miracle that we have these recordings at all. (BTW: I love these recordings).
