Escape to the Marsh
We haven't been able to run the boat in so long I think it started feeling like we didn't care about it anymore. So, we hooked up to the truck and escaped to the marsh in Kissimee, FL for a really nice day with friends. Hundreds of boats out with everyone enjoying the excellent, but windy, weather.
Music in the video was by one of our friends with us that day. A very talented person for sure. Any music rights attributed to original artists.

This boat weighs 1733 lbs with no fuel, driver, etc. Estimated boat weight in this video is approximately 3300 lbs. No rudder shake required to get moving. An estimated additional 200-400 lbs load carrying capacity remains in "emergency" situations.

Put in at Sweet Water along the St. Johns river and ran up to Dozer then headed north through the Cypress. Fairly grown over.... Moma was a trooper with the webs and bugs...That low front seat isn't kind to passengers. Testing the new 80" Maximus prop. At 2.0 / nuetral pitch mark we can spin it 5250 or so on the trailer with a 2.38 ox drive PSRU. Seeing 8.0 to 11.0 MPG in 20mph cruise shallow water WITH E45 FUEL. Very nice propeller!

      Its been a while, but that whole day it never saw north of 4200. So, in the spot you are referencing I would say between 3400 and 3600 rpm.

    That’s awesome. We’re you able to keep the same engine stand or did all that have to change to mount the new rigging.

      Required a new engine stand, which we used Steel this time around. The previous stainless steel rigging and stand just couldn't handle the stress. When that rigging was built we didn't expect to get 1500+ lbs of thrust out of the little 2.0 engine and prop so it was just not holding up well. Along with the new proper grass rake, everything is great now!

    Bubba, they hold up fine if you use the right "ecotec". People try to cheap out or "do it better" by building a non-fsctory turbo engine and end up disappointed when it doesn't last. Use a LHU or LTG and you are good to go. I have 600+ hrs on mine with a EFR6758 turbo, 2.38 reduction and a 3 blade 80" Maximus prop set at 2 pitch that turns 5600rpm on the trailer. To spin that prop at that pitch with a 2.38 you have to be making north of 450hp. Only takes 1 person to create enough "noise" via negativity to push people away. You decide for yourself. Just look at how someone felt this video was worth a down vote. I mean, really? Decide for yourself. Good luck with whatever you decide.

      Hi Brian. Lots of videos of this boat on my channel if you want to learn the complete history. We blazed a trail airboat wise with this one and its a hard setup to improve on imo. Some details to follow: We built this boat in 2012 and it's been runing a GM LHU 2.0 Turbo Ecotec with an EFR 6758 Turbo producing between 400 and 450hp at 25psi on pump gas. Boat weighs 1739lbs totally dry with no fuel, driver, gear, etc. Running a 3 Blade Maximus setup I've had the boat up to 89mph and still accelerating very hard before I got too nervous to keep my foot in it. That was in less than 1 inch of water. With the 4 Blade falcon the boat was MUCH faster, so, hard to say what kind of speed it would produce. With the 4 blade Falcon we measured 52mph at 4300rpm in shallow water. Pitched to acheive that speed and rpm the engine would rev out to 5400, so, you can see that the speed would have a very high ceiling. I don't airboat for speed, so, we prefer the Maximus blades for the lower noise footprint and better thrust at lower prop RPM. That said, the Falcons are fantastic and I can 100% recommend them to anyone wanting a more all around blade vs the low/mid range of the Maximus blades. You can reach the guys at Water walker via their FB page: facebook.com/Water-Walker-Props-Inc-119679974865474/ All said and done, for a boat with nearly half inch thick UHMW on the bottom it's more than fast enough, handles very well, can literally climb a vertical incline if you want to be stupid and has consisently returned average fuel economy of 5mpg (8mpg Cruising, 3mpg running Dry) and hasn't had a single engine issue other than normal maintenance, you can't really improve on it much. It also produces enough thrust to tow a dead airboat over dry ground and then across deep water on a plane. Simply one of the best boats I've ever owned!       No bad bearing loads with the Ox Drive. Think of the Ox Drive like a transmission. The thrust from the prop is being soaked up by the Ox Drive, not the engine itself.

    1. They do build engines like that, but the weight isn't comparable with aircraft engine when you factor in gear box, radiator etc. The Ecotec platform produces a better hp/weight ratio than an aircraft engine in most cases. 320lbs is what the 122ci (2.0L) engine weighs. Factor in a 65lb gear box and a little more for radiator and it's right near 400lbs. Engine puts out 1hp/lb in it's final configuration. Hard to match that in a reliable package 2. Belt drives are typically not lighter

    My mission is to build my own plane with an automotive power plant for which I will probably need a reduction gearbox, 1. Why can't someone build a high Torque low RPM V-8 to match an airplane engine a Stroked 350 or 500 + C.U. motor R.V. cam with peak output at 3000 RPM. 2. I realize there are torsional effects and tremendous forces at work but couldn't one just use a massive belt and oversize the bearings ? It's just a transmission they had them in WW2 it shouldn't be that hard.
