Hyundai i20 N Line: Fueling My Ride
I've been experimenting with a range of fuels, from regular 91 octane all the way up to premium 100 octane, and I want to share my observations from the past 6-7 months with you.
1. 91 Octane (not my cup of tea)
When I use 91 octane, my car tends to fell a bit dull without urgency to push out performance.
The car lack the responsiveness & peak power. Really need to push the engine hard with much more throttle input to get performance.
2. 95 Octane (The Everyday Option) (XP95, Speed, Power95)
Moving up to 95 octane, I can feel the difference almost immediately. The engine feels more responsive, especially during acceleration. Provides a better balance between performance and economy. For this engines as its has higher compression ratios so the engine performs optimally and extracts the claimed figures as per my opinion.
3. 97 Octane (Premium) (Speed97)
With 97 octane, my car seems to come alive. The throttle response is sharper, acceleration is smoother, and overall better performance. If you want to bring out the best in your engine, this fuel won’t disappoint. Its expensive to use on daily driver, that's the only draw back, still much lower costs as compared to XP100.
4. 100 Octane (The Ultimate Test) (XP100)
Now, 100 octane is something else. It’s typically reserved for performance cars, and you can really feel why.
You’ve probably experienced the best performance with this fuel, power output, even at high RPMs is mental. However, unless the engine is tuned for it, the difference in everyday driving might not be worth the price you end up paying.
Fuel Economy: Higher octane fuels result in slightly better fuel efficiency, but the difference is often minimal unless the engine is specifically designed to take advantage of higher octane ratings. So its evenly spread across the range except for 91 octane where it is a bit lower.
Cost vs. Benefit: The cost of higher octane fuels is higher as you go up the refinement chain, so the benefit must be weighed against the price and what you are willing to spend, but if the car isn't tuned for 100 or 97 octane I would stick to 95 octane for this engine.

N line meets XP100 petrol. How's the engine and throttle response? Now that I have put some miles in using the XP 100 I can definitely say its an experience to have at least once for a full tank. It changes the whole character of the car and how the power is delivered, how the throttle responds to inputs, its instant, almost like a NA engine.... almost. Normal mode is the new Sports mode in XP1...

    Loving the new approach bhai, the overall synopsis on this topic along with the voiceover is a really good start !!💪🏻❤ What i believe is that the company should have defaulted to 95 ron as standard coz generally all turbos are really sensitive to octane numbers as compared to NA cars and with India, the quality of 91 ron would also be at around 88-89 hence the shitty average and performance..

      Yes, the fuel rating is not accurate in India and this engine is sensitive to fuel and higher the number the better the performance. A general note on the type of fuel to used from manufacturer would be a good add on.

      @@abhinav.vatsayan Although for this cost sensitive market, i am not really sure that they would be keen on doing this as it will effectively make a negative impact on the image by kind of making the car come across as high maintenance which will not be a good reflection on the normal buyers that aren't as keen on extracting most performance out of the engine.

      New model has a mode selector which for some use cases is better, but it doesn't make that much of a difference. That may be better for city usage, the new selector

      pushbutton start is available in asta and asta(o), plus driver side one touch up, rain sensor is something that i miss as well. Also, not sure which kia are you talking about, since seltos base model does not have any features to begin with, even the side mirrors are manually adjustable so.

      N8 (dct) preface lift model. I am not the fan of the headlights on the car, i find the throw to be a bit lacklustre, leaves you wanting for more in low beam. High beam is sufficient enough for when they are needed.

    Appreciate the video buddy, really helpful. btw, I heard a couple of creaking and thuds in the duration of the video. Can you clarify if they are caused by any moving parts within the cabin (Bottle, phones etc.) or is it from the suspension? I've heard the suspension is quite stiff in the N Line.

      Thanks, that would be the parcel tray out back. Unfortunately its a flaw in the new i20 where its a bit short on the sides so that rattles over bumps, the suspension being stiff also adds to that. Since that moves a bit more and make that rattle, there is a temporary fix, i usually have a tissue folder and fixed in the gap that takes care of the issue but that slips out eventually.

      @@abhinav.vatsayan Got it. Did you ever feel the Sportz or Asta models would've performed better in city conditions? I live in a city known for its traffic and my usage would mainly be in traffic conditions. I'm not clear if the DCT gearbox will be able to cope in a stop-go traffic.

      So it depends on your usage, i like quick shifts and immediate response from the gearbox and I am willing to live with the disadvantaged of dct. It’s able to squeeze the performance out of the 1.0turbo engine. This is based on my personal taste and needs. Also they have done something clever with this dct to protect the clutch from overheating and wear and tear, they have made it slow to down shift from first to second gearbox and it doest not launch off the line. But imo if you can live with the rubber band effect of the cvt it’s a better gearbox for city usage, easy to live with. If you are speaking in terms of engine 1.2 NA in sports and asta is pretty capable to handle city+highway use but weirdly enough the average for petrol is 10-11 kmpl only under stop go traffic.

      Hey man, nice to meet you as well! It’s the 1.0 turbo engine, the intial sound is not that much but mid range grunt is good. Sure will make a short out of this.

      Safety is not what you have when you crash, safety is something that helps you to avoid crashes in the first place. What you are saying is passive safety, actual safety is active where in you don’t get into a crash because of the car being firstly build to handle better i.e chassis, good suspension, traction, abs, esp, etc. so yes this is a 3 star car but it’s equipped with great active safety equipment. Search for motoinc safety podcast you will know what i mean. So safety is quite misunderstood in india as ncap rating

    Excellent video. Enjoyed thoroughly, I have a 2021 polo Tsi automatic in sunset red. I20 n line is an excellent car best of both worlds. Spacious, comfortable etc.

The handling and balance should vastly improve with a tyre upgrade, maybe to an affordable Vredesteins or the veterans being the Michellin PS's or Continental UC's...😉

      It’s noisy but not underpowered since it has a turbo unit. Plenty of power at hand.

      Initially yes lagging but comparing to the 1.6 initial bite will not be there but it has punch in the majority of the mid the top range. So it will feel a bit laggy due to small capacity below 2k rpm. Plus 3 cylinder does not have a different in this other than the refinement side of things

      "takkar" 😂 kuch bhi. Kaha n line aur kaha altroz racer. Gaadi ka naam bhi kya rakha hai, racer. Jisne mein naam socha hai 10 saal ka bacha hoga, racer 😂 looks mein n line 100 guna achhi hai. Altroz dikhne mein tatti lagti hai.. indicator side mein hai, alloys itne ghatiya hai, interior chhapri tata wala, steering wheel 5 saal purana lag raha hai, 2 stripes laga diye saamne jaise ki hotwheels hai 😂 n line ek dum premium sporty look deti hai aur altroz south africa mein chalne waali taxi lagti hai 😂

      I am hoping they make something like tiago jtp but it will hardly be the case since they have moved from that genre of cars a while back and more focused on family oriented cars but altroz in general is a good car with really good suspension overall not particularly for corner stability. So my bet would be that they just boost the torque, a bit punchy engine and tweek the ecu a bit with some suspension work (hopefully) It will be a better overall package than Altroz (i-turbo) with more creature comfort feature. But we will have to see, how it turns out. I am going for a test drive for sure.

      Yup, back seat might be a bit less accommodating but front should be good, since it is hight adjustable (driver). My opinion would be to get a test drive to figure it out how this accommodating to your frame.

      On expressway its a bit boring, but else where its not at all boring. Dct takes aways one point of contact for sure but gives you so much in return, for instance instant shifts, not sure if manual can shift that fast, in S mode its always in the right gear and rev band. Secondly i am mostly stuck in delhi traffic so its a peace of mind you can cover longer distances within the city, left leg is relaxed. On mountains its simply fun.

      Our roads will fuck up that hard suspension any day, ask anyone who has coilovers mod done they will tell you it make up for unbearable ride quality. Add 18-19 inch wheels to it and you have a disaster waiting to happen on indian roads with surprise potholes waiting around the corner😂

      Not purely cosmetic since there is quite a lot of suspension and steering feedback work done, it handles like a dream. You will need to experience both n line and normal i20 to experience the difference. But yes no where near the OG N that is sold outside of india, which would be too costly here not a viable option for mass market as of now.

      Its crazy breaking performance for such a small car stops on a dime just the tyres are the limiting factor here for breaking.

      Depends where he might be breaking, wet road or gravel so it can have some difference but its more than adequate. Also could be he pulled the clutch while breaking that might be one reason for slower performance
